Helen Mirren no nude prude

Helen Mirren no nude prude

Dame Helen Mirren says getting naked has got easier as she gotten older.

The 64-year-old actress - who has stripped on screen in several films - insists baring all in front of the camera is "liberating" and she gets through it by refusing to think of the response from male fans.

She said: "As you get older naked stuff gets easier. It's more to do with the role than what men in the audience think. There's a liberation about it."

The 'Queen' actress also spoke about her first encounters of sex, admitting she is still angry about losing her virginity.

She said: "It was the calumny of young men... My trustful romantic nature was badly let down, my feminism confronted... I am still p***ed off, actually."

Despite her unsatisfying first sexual experience, Helen insists she has learned something from every man she has ever dated.

She said in an interview with Broadcast Now: "Ken Cranham, like all the men I have had a proper relationship with, left me a better person than he found me."

Helen married her husband, American director Taylor Hackford, in 1997, 11 years after they started dating, and credits his fiery nature and honesty with keeping them together.

She explained: "Taylor can be turbulent, irrational and explosive. He has made me cry on many occasions... He is also the most unsexist man, looking women directly in the eye with no curtain of assumptions or prejudices to cloud his view. He is brave, loyal and supportive."

Celebrities Leona Lewis gets 150k pay day

Leona Lewis gets 150k pay day

Leona Lewis was reportedly paid $150,000 for a private concert.

The 'Happy' singer was flown by private jet to Monte Carlo for the birthday party of Romania's richest man on Saturday (05.12.09).

Leona sang a short set for 25 guests in the exclusive show at a private banqueting suite in the state's Hotel De Paris.

The singer then flew to Germany where she wowed millions of TV viewers with a performance on hugely popular show 'Wetten Dass', for which she wore a short white dress.

Although she agreed to perform at the private party, Leona has previously turned down other lucrative earning opportunities. Last month, it emerged Leona had been offered over $1.5 million to appear naked in men's magazine Playboy.

Although she was "flattered" to have been asked to appear in the pages of the publication, Leona is simply too shy to strip off for a shoot.

She has previously said: "I'm not that confident! I just don't think I could pose nude, because I'm not that brave."

Leona is not the only pop star to cash in with a private performance.

Rihanna is reportedly set to earn $500,000 to perform at a New Year's Eve party (31.12.09).

The 'Umbrella' singer has been asked to sing at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi to help revellers see in 2010 in what will be her first performance in the Middle East.

Penelope Cruz's faint fear

Penelope Cruz's faint fear

Spanish actress Penelope Cruz almost ''passed out'' with shock at the Oscars and has no recollection of what happened at the prestigious award ceremony.

Penelope Cruz almost "passed out" at the Oscars.

The Spanish actress - who won a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award earlier this year for her role in 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona' - has revealed she has no recollection of the evening because she felt faint with tension.

She explained: "I feel frustrated that I can't remember, because it was beautiful how your family and your people can feel so happy for you. I felt I was on the border of passing out from tension. That I can remember very well."

However, the brunette beauty can recall tucking into 300 canapes, crying for half and hour and being confused about what was going on.

She explained to Britain's The Times newspaper: "I remember thinking, 'What am I doing here? How did this happen?' "

Despite her glowing movie career, the 35-year-old starlet still has problems with her self-esteem.

She explained: "I don't want to like myself too much in my work, because if the camera sees that, it's the thing it will hate the most, seeing an actor that likes himself too much.

"I have always been very self-critical. It's one of those things I don't feel I should try to change. I think you need that to keep growing and improving.

"It is in my nature to worry, about anything. I have always been like that, but now I try to control it and to be more positive. But I worry a lot."

Britney Spears to regain control

Britney Spears to regain control

Britney Spears could be set to regain control of her affairs from her father Jamie now her 'Circus' tour has ended.

Britney Spears' conservatorship could end soon.

The 28-year-old singer's father Jamie Spears - who was made co-conservator of her personal and professional affairs after her public breakdown in 2008 - has met with lawyers and wants a judge to review the conditions of the agreement now Britney's 'Circus' tour has ended.

According to gossip website TMZ, there have been "several lengthy meetings recently between the lawyers and the court commissioner in the commissioner's chambers".

Although they've met with the judge, Jamie and Britney's lawyers cannot decide whether or not the conservatorship ends.

Instead, a "capacity expert" - a court-appointed psychiatrist - will evaluate Britney and submit his results to the court commissioner.

While Britney could soon be in control of her personal life, her business interests are likely to be protected for longer.

TMZ reported: "There are actually two conservatorships - one over Britney, the person, and the other over Britney's business affairs. We're told the business conservatorship will likely continue. The issue on the table is whether to end the conservatorship over Britney, the person. Again, no decisions have been made, but it's all moving in that direction."

Underwood aims for family fun with variety show

Underwood aims for family fun with variety show
FILE - In this Nov. 22, 2009 file photo, Carrie Underwood arrives at the 37th Annual American Music Awards in Los Angeles. The country music star hosts Monday's 'An All-Star Holiday Special' on Fox, and believes it's just the tonic for the regular TV lineup. [Agencies]

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The variety show was once a television staple, and Carrie Underwood thinks it might be time for a resurgence.

The country music star hosts Monday's "An All-Star Holiday Special" on Fox, and believes it's just the tonic for the regular TV lineup.

"I think it's really great they're making a comeback because I think it's really good family programming, and nowadays it seems like every show is about, like, murder or police and people shooting at each other," Underwood said.

The 26-year-old Oklahoma native was too young to catch the golden age of the variety show. It once was as common as the reality show with stars like Barbara Mandrell and the Mandrell sisters, Sonny and Cher, and even The Muppets mixing music and comedy to draw in a family audience.

But Underwood did her research before shooting her show in Los Angeles earlier this fall.

"I remember a little bit of the Mandrell sisters and I have gone back and seen episodes of their show just to kind of, I don't know, get some ideas and kind of see how it's done from a master's perspective," she said.

She also had variety show veteran and country music star Dolly Parton on the set to lend advice. Underwood said she'd never met Parton until they did the show together, and the two hit it off right away — especially when they realized they lived close to each other.

"I told her and she was like, 'You don't live far from me, let's get together. Do you like Southern cooking? You don't look like you eat,'" Underwood said.

Brad Paisley, fellow "American Idol" winner David Cook, "Idol" host Ryan Seacrest and Neil Patrick Harris also appear in the special, along with Underwood's mother and sister.

The show caps quite the year for Underwood. She won the Academy of Country Music entertainer of the year award in the spring, and her new album, "Play On," debuted at No. 1. She also hosted the Country Music Association Awards for the second straight year.

After a quiet holiday with family, she'll turn her attention to touring in the new year, hitting the road next spring.

"I think my whole life next year will be revolving around touring," she said.

Rihanna's emotional LP

Rihanna got so emotional making her new album she had to keep leaving the studio.

The 21-year-old singer - who was assaulted by her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown at a pre-Grammy Awards party in February - has revealed the recording process for LP 'Rated R' was very personal because of the subject matter of the songs.

Rihanna said: "It's the closest album to me, to my heart. I opened up a lot on it and got a little vulnerable and let my emotions out on it. Everything's documented on the album."

It's only now the album is finished that Rihanna can listen to it without getting upset.

She said: "I'm able to listen back to it now but in the beginning it was really weird. I couldn't listen to demos or anything. It was too deep for me. I kept leaving the studio when people wanted to listen to the songs."

Lady Gaga's sex terror

Lady Gaga's sex terror

Lady Gaga once had a fear of sex.

The 23-year-old singer - who is currently single - said the songs on her new album 'The Fame Monster' were written at a time when she was experiencing a phobia of intimacy.

She said: "I'm just really happy being single at the moment, working on my music and travelling. I think there is a time for that but it's just not now for me. And anyway, I have no confidence when it comes to men.

"Each song represents a different monster I have encountered on my travels; a fear of sex, a fear of alcohol, a fear of love, a fear of death, it goes on...

"I'm so proud of my new music but I feel during all this time - while my dad was having open heart surgery - it was a really difficult time for me personally and that is what this album is all about."

Lady Gaga has previously revealed that her new song 'Telephone' is about her strict work ethic and fear of fun.

She told MTV: "Something that I have or fear is never being able to enjoy myself."

Music Susan Boyle makes smash debut on U.S. album charts

Susan Boyle makes smash debut on U.S. album charts

British singer Susan Boyle performs on NBC's "Today" show in New York, November 23, 2009.[Agencies]

LOS ANGELES - British singing sensation Susan Boyle's first album soared to No. 1 on U.S. album charts on Wednesday with sales of 701,000 copies, beating new releases by Adam Lambert and Rihanna and becoming the best-selling debut of 2009.

Boyle, 48, a frumpy Scottish singer who became an international YouTube phenomenon after appearing on TV show "Britain's Got Talent", also topped the British album charts earlier this week.

Her "I Dreamed a Dream" release through Sony Music Entertainment, marked the best U.S. opening of a female artist's debut album since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991, Billboard.com said.

It was also the fastest selling album in Britain this year and has topped the charts in Australia and Ireland.

Billboard said only one album in SoundScan's tracking history had seen a bigger opening week than Boyle.

U.S. rapper Snoop Dogg's album "Doggystyle" sold 803,000 copies in its first week in 1993 -- before traditional album sales began tumbling in the face of piracy and a shift to digital sales.

Although Boyle ultimately failed to win "Britain's Got Talent", her April audition for the show has been viewed more than 300 million times on the Internet.

In a good week for stars of TV talent shows, "American Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert's debut album "For Your Entertainment", also released through Sony, debuted at No.3 on the Billboard 200 with 198,000 copies sold.

Lambert's strong showing followed headline news coverage of his raunchy televised live performance at the American Music Awards 10 days ago in which he simulated oral sex with a dancer and kissed a male keyboard player.

R&B singer Rihanna's "Rated R", her first studio album since being attacked by her then-boyfriend Chris Brown in February, bowed in at No.4 with 181,000 copies -- the best sales week in the 21 year-old singer's career.

Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli held onto the No.2 spot for a third week with his "My Christmas" album with 218,000 new copies sold during the week.

Overall U.S. album sales last week totaled 10.73 million units. Year to date album sales stand at $320.2 million -- a 13 percent decrease over the same period in 2008, SoundScan said.

Celebrities New 'toon continues Disney trend toward diversity

In this film publicity image released by Disney, Princess Tiana, voiced by Anika Noni Rose, left, and Prince Naveen, voiced by Bruno Campos, are shown in a scene from the animated film, 'The Princess and the Frog.' [Agencies]

LOS ANGELES – For most of the last century, the Disney 'toon heroine was as white as, well... Snow White, the studio's first feature-film superstar, who marked her debut in 1937's "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs."

It would take some 60 years for the Disney artists to begin painting their leading ladies with all the colors of the wind, including the American Indian Pocahontas (1995), the Chinese Mulan (1998) and the Hawaiian Lilo (2002).

Only now, with "The Princess and the Frog," have Disney animators put a black female front and center. Ironically, the inspiration for the new film came from two Caucasian men: current Pixar-Disney chief John Lasseter and the late Walt Disney himself.

"The story really came from an initial idea of doing an American fairy tale, which hadn't been done at Disney," said "Princess" co-director Ron Clements. "And setting it in New Orleans, which is John Lasseter's favorite city in the world. It was Walt Disney's favorite city in the world ... Out of that, it seemed natural that the heroine would be African-American."

Discussion of the character's race had some of the film's principals bristling. "We walk around being black every day, and nobody talks about it," noted Anika Noni Rose, who supplies the voice of lead Princess Tiana. "So, I suggest you follow your instinct and let it be nothing to be talked about."

Yet the "Dreamgirls" actress continued to talk: "The big deal is that it will quietly affirm to young brown-skinned children that they are special in this world," Rose said. "And I think that it is a bigger deal to those of us who grew up without it and are now adults and have been waiting for it. It's exciting to us, because we know how important it is to our children to have, to be image affirmed."

Production was started on "Princess" in March 2006, long before the election of a new American president. "We tried to arrange that," joked co-director John Musker. "We voted for Obama," Musker continued. "That was about as much influence as we had on things."

But the coincidence isn't lost on some members of the "Princess" cast. "It is historical in the sense now that there is 'Obama' and 'Tiana,'" said veteran character actress Jenifer Lewis, widely known as "the black mother of Hollywood." "It is a new day," she continued. "There is hope. There is change. That is what this movie is going to bring."

Perhaps, but the directors remind us that making history was never their point.

"It is a universal story," Musker said. "It is a story of trying to follow your dreams and overcoming obstacles. And I don't think that necessarily knows a certain color."

Walt Disney's "The Princess and the Frog" is now playing in Los Angeles and New York and opens nationwide on Dec. 11.

Daniel Radcliffe can't wait to be a father.

The 'Harry Potter' actor - who played the title character in the wizard franchise - is determined to settle down and start a family and plans to take time away from the film industry when he does become a parent.

He said: "I've got kids to have at some point. They're going to keep me busy if I do - which I hope I do at some point. I'm not planning on it soon, but that's one of the things I'm really looking forward to doing."

The 20-year-old actor - who is in an on/off relationship with Laura O'Toole - is not the only 'Harry Potter' star wondering about life after the film series finishes.

Daniel's co-star Rupert Grint - who portrays Harry's best friend Ron Weasley - is scared about spending the rest of his life in the "real world".

He explained: "It is quite scary when this all ends because we're stepping out into the real world - it is quite a bubble I suppose, we've had these films to do every year and it's become quite a routine. I'm definitely going to miss it. It's been a great 10 years.

"I am quite keen to move on and see what else is out there."

Daniel and Rupert - along with their co-star Emma Watson, who plays their witch friend Hermione Granger - are currently working on the final two installations from the film series.

'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I' is due out next year, and 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II' will be released in 2011.

Celebrities Actress Meredith Baxter says she's a lesbian

Actress Meredith Baxter of "Family Ties" poses as she arrives at "A Father's Day Salute to TV Dads" hosted by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in Los Angeles, California June 18, 2009.[Agencies]

LOS ANGELES - Meredith Baxter, a star of the 1980's sitcom "Family Ties", said on Wednesday she was a lesbian as media reports and published photos of her and a woman embracing began to surface in public.

Baxter, 62, told NBC's "The Today Show" that she discovered she was gay seven years ago, several years after her divorce from her third husband. She said her five children, who range from ages 25 to 42, supported her when she told them.

"I am a lesbian, and it was a later-in-life recognition," she said. "I got involved with someone I never expected to get involved with, and it was that kind of awakening. I had a great deal of difficulty connecting with men in relationships."

Her comments came amid recent online photographs of her walking with her girlfriend of four years, building contractor Nancy Locke, and reports that she attended a Caribbean cruise with some 1,200 lesbians, which she confirmed.

Baxter said she decided to speak to the media to set the facts straight. She also said she was once so paranoid the media would expose her secret that she asked Locke, who was openly gay, to park her truck farther away.

"She said, 'No'. I thought, 'All right.' I had to reach a level of comfort. It wasn't fair to push her back into some kind of secrecy, and the nice thing is that we live very 'out' lives in Los Angeles," Baxter said.

Baxter played Elyse Keaton, mother of Michael J. Fox's conservative-minded teenager Michael P. Keaton, from 1982 to 1989. She has had guest and recurring television roles since then and also runs a skincare company.

Leona Lewis' film dream

Leona Lewis' film dream

Leona Lewis wants to write a film.

The singer - who has a song included on the soundtracks to new films 'Precious' and 'Avatar' respectively - is a huge movie fan and would love to pen a script in the future.

The 24-year-old singer said: "I love movies but I'm more into scriptwriting and the actual story and behind the scenes. But I wouldn't say no if it was the right thing."

Leona's current single 'Happy' is featured in 'Precious', which tells the story of an overweight, illiterate teenager who dreams of a better life.

The pop star was thrilled when the track got picked to be used in the movie, saying: "I'm just so proud of it because I wrote it, and for it to be associated with a film like 'Precious', which is about trying to overcome troubles and trials in your life, is amazing. I'm glad that someone got that message."

As Leona's career goes from strength-to-strength, she is attracting a host of star fans.

Rihanna - who was assaulted by her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown in February - is a huge admirer and was very upset to hear about Leona being attacked by a fan at a recent book signing.

The 'Russian Roulette' singer said: "I got so mad, like it was me. I couldn't believe it happened to her, of all people. It's so disappointing when people behave like that. Why? She's so sweet. She is just a beautiful, beautiful spirit. You don't want any bad things to happen to her."

Film said to show Marilyn Monroe smoking pot

Film said to show Marilyn Monroe smoking pot
A screegrab from a home movie shows Marilyn Monroe apparently smoking marijuana. The movie is dates to 1958 or 1959, based on her appearance. [Agencies]

NEW YORK- A home movie showing a relaxed Marilyn Monroe apparently smoking marijuana has surfaced, retrieved from an attic some 50 years after it was filmed.

The reel-to-reel silent, color film taken at a private home in New Jersey was recently purchased by collector Keya Morgan for $275,000 from the person who took the film, who has asked to remain anonymous.

Morgan and the person who shot the film gave Reuters permission to use it in shortened form. The copyright of the image will be put up for sale on eBay later this week, Morgan said.

At one point Monroe is passed a cigarette and takes a puff but does not appear to inhale deeply. The person who made the film confirmed that the cigarette contained marijuana, saying: "I got it (the pot). It was mine. It was just passed around."

"It was not a party. It was just a get-together. You know, come over and hang out," the person said.

Morgan, a collector of historical photos, manuscripts, autographs and documents, is also working on a documentary on the death of Monroe in August 1962.

He learned of the film during his research and tracked down the owner, who kept it as part of an archive that was moved between various homes over the years. The Monroe film had been stored in an attic for three years before Morgan tracked it down.

The actress appears happy and relaxed at a small gathering of friends that Morgan dates to 1958 or 1959, based on her appearance.

"This is the late '50s so she is already very famous, but this is a personal side of her we've never seen before. People have never seen her in such a relaxed pose," Morgan said.

Mischa Barton happy with hospital

Mischa Barton happy with hospital

Mischa Barton thinks being sectioned was a "good" thing.

The former 'O.C.' star was placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold earlier this year but says she appreciated the chance to take time out and reassess her life.

She said: "I went to the hospital because of pain with my wisdom teeth and I ended up getting 'put in', but that's because I was so overwhelmingly stressed out and upset.

"I think it was my teeth and the stress of having a new job and travelling. I was miserable. Actresses aren't given the time to recover after stuff like that - you're expected to bounce back from surgery and work right away again.

"I was shocked it went that far but I think it was necessary for me to take that time out. I'm so much more settled and calm now.

"Ultimately, it was a positive thing."

Despite the stigma associated with mental health issues, Mischa insists lots of people suffer from disorders and are hospitalised.

She added to Heat magazine: "It's something that could've happened to anyone - going into hospital and having a bad experience then being held on an involuntary psychiatric hold. It happens to more people than you'd know. It's a common thing."

Movies Twilight faces shadowy prospects

Twilight descended on China's box office on Nov 25, about a year after it was screened in other countries and five days after the global release of its sequel, New Moon.

But the film is unlikely to shine like it did in the US, because of the delay and competition with other blockbusters.

"We didn't screen the film many times," New Film Association theater chain's general manager Gao Jun says.

"Many viewers consider it an old film by now."

Twilight faces shadowy prospects

Gao told China Daily the film earned about 100,000 yuan ($14,700) at the theater chain's 54 Beijing branches on its premiere day, while 2012 raked in about 1.4 million yuan.

An online survey by sohu.com shows that more than 88 percent of respondents have seen the film, which premiered in the US and Hong Kong last winter.

"It has been a whole year since the film's international premiere," Beijing Star City cinema's general manager Kang Xuejun says. "Most of those who buy movie tickets are hardcore fans."

As of Nov 27, the film's daily box office earnings totaled 6,000 yuan - about one-tenth of that of 2012, which has brought in about 90 percent of the recent gross.

"It seems impossible for Twilight to be as big of a smash hit here as it was in other places in the world," Kang says. "But I have great confidence in the prospects of New Moon, if it could be screened in China soon."

Huaxia Film Distribution, the film's distributor in China, says the vampire story is a new genre to Chinese big screens. So the box office performance of Twilight will determine whether or not the franchise's second installation is imported.

The showing of the first flick is unusual in that China rarely imports films with supernatural themes.

"I see it as a sign that Chinese officials are becoming more open," Kang says.

Gao points out that it has been difficult for Twilight to find a place in the sun among the slew of other flicks hitting theaters.

"November to February has long been a crowded period for Chinese filmgoers," he says.

"They have many choices, especially this year, when more than 20 films will show during the season."

Highlights include the sci-fi blockbuster District 9, produced by Peter Jackson, and Mulan (Hua Mulan), adapted from a familiar folktale and starring acclaimed Chinese star Zhao Wei. Disney's G-Force hit screens on Nov 24.

While the vampire story might not do well in Chinese theaters, the Chinese-language novels have sold 1.66 million copies since appearing on shelves last summer.

"The Twilight series was the best-selling set of translated foreign novels last year, both in single volume and series sales," says Zhou Jing, the editor of the book, published by Jieli Publishing House.

Jieli has also published Twilight: The Complete Illustrated Movie Companion, a behind-the-scenes guidebook by Mark Cotta Vaz. It hit shelves shortly before the film's China premiere. It will soon also publish the guidebook for New Moon.

Heidi Klum finding four kids 'tough'

German supermodel Heidi Klum has found being a mother of four ''tough'' since she gave birth to her new daughter Lou last month.

Heidi Klum admits it's "tough" having four children.

The German supermodel - who gave birth to daughter Lou last month - is struggling to adapt because her newborn baby demands a lot of her time and attention.

Heidi - who is married to singer Seal - told German magazine Gala: "Of course this is all very tough for me at the moment because Leni, Henry and Johan want to continue to do things with their mama and papa. They are not really interested in the fact that you have just had a baby. Seal and I have a lot of work because we have to divide everything among us. But it's great! We are incredibly happy and the family really satisfies me.

"At the moment Lou needs me enormously. Not only because of breastfeeding but also because she needs to be close to her mother. She will sleep now for a year with us in our bedroom - just as her siblings did. It's easier at night if she is hungry."

The 36-year-old beauty keeps her other children - daughter Leni, five, and sons Henri, four, and Johan, three - happy by making sure they're kept busy.

Heidi - who along with Seal have released photographs of their new daughter on the 46-year-old musician's official website, Seal.com - explained: "You must always think of new things - this is sometimes a challenge. We often make play dates with other kids or we go to the park. On weekends we like to go to Disneyland."

Polanski stuck in jail; must pay full $4.5M

Polanski stuck in jail; must pay full $4.5M

A snow-plough passes the chalet of Polish-French filmmaker Roman Polanski named 'Milky Way', covered in freshly fallen snow in Gstaad, Switzerland, Monday, Nov. 30 2009.[Agencies]

GSTAAD, Switzerland – Roman Polanski remained in jail Monday, despite visits from his lawyer and a French diplomat, and it was unclear if the director had met Switzerland's demand of a full bail payment of $4.5 million to be released.

The Swiss Justice Ministry declined to say what guarantees Polanski needed to give to be transferred from the jail near Zurich to house arrest at his chalet in the luxury resort of Gstaad.

In addition to bail, the 76-year-old filmmaker must surrender his identity papers and be fitted with an electronic monitoring bracelet. He would not be allowed to leave his property as he awaits a decision on whether he will be extradited to the U.S. for having sex in 1977 with a 13-year-old girl.

"The bail must be wired to a bank account, and the bank must then notify us that it has received the bail," ministry spokesman Folco Galli said. "Nothing happens before that."

The full bail payment is standard practice in Switzerland, Galli said.

That is different from other countries such as the United States, where bail bondsmen often post a percentage of the total payment required by a court.

Polanski has been in Swiss custody since being arrested Sept. 26 on a U.S. warrant as he arrived in Zurich to receive a lifetime achievement award at a film festival. Authorities in Los Angeles want him returned to be sentenced after 31 years as a fugitive.

The director of such film classics as "Rosemary's Baby," "Chinatown" and "The Pianist" was being held at a jail in Winterthur, near Zurich, where he was visited Monday by his lawyer Lorenz Erni and French diplomat Jean-Luc Faure-Tournaire.

"He is in good spirits. He is very happy about how he has been treated here," Faure-Tournaire said. He expected Polanski to leave jail soon, but he could not say how quickly.

Erni stayed for several hours in the jail, and refused to answer questions when he left. Contacted by telephone, Polanski's Paris lawyer Herve Temime also declined to comment.

In the central resort town of Gstaad, however, workers were seen clearing heavy snow from the road leading up to Polanski's property, a three-story stucco and wood home with its own garden. The chalet is where he would be confined until extradition is decided and any appeals are complete.

An alarm will ring if Polanski leaves the property, but no special police protection will be provided. The director will be able to go outside to check the mail or entertain guests in the garden. He also will be able to make calls, send e-mails and work on his films. Phone conversations will not be monitored.

It was unclear when Polanski's wife and two children would join him in Gstaad. His sister-in-law, Mathilde Seigner, told the Le Parisien newspaper that his family usually goes to the chalet around Christmas and plans to meet there again this year.

Polanski was initially accused of raping the girl after plying her with champagne and a Quaalude pill during a modeling shoot in 1977. He was indicted on six felony counts, including rape by use of drugs, child molestation and sodomy, but he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of unlawful sexual intercourse.

In exchange, the judge agreed to drop the remaining charges and sent him to prison for a 90-day psychiatric evaluation. The evaluator released Polanski after 42 days, but the judge said he was going to send him back to serve out the 90 days.

Polanski fled the U.S. on Feb. 1, 1978, the day he was to be formally sentenced. He has lived since then in France, which does not extradite its citizens.

Polanski claims that the U.S. judge and prosecutors acted improperly in his case. His attorneys will argue before a California appeals court in December that the charges should be dismissed.

Michael Jackson death charges expected to take months

Dr. Conrad Murray arrives at the Armstrong Medical Clinic in Houston November 23, 2009. The cardiologist plans to resume work for the first time since the death of pop star Michael Jackson.[Agencies]

LOS ANGELES - A decision on possible criminal charges over the June death of Michael Jackson is "months rather than weeks away", the Los Angeles Times on Monday quoted law enforcement sources as saying.

Authorities have consulted medical experts and say there is much evidence to review, the Los Angeles Times reported, and no charges are expected to be filed before 2010.

Police and prosecutors could not be reached for comment.

Police have been investigating Jackson's doctor Conrad Murray for months after coroners ruled Jackson's death a homicide. The official report said the anesthetic propofol and the sedative lorazepam were the primary drugs that led to the "Thriller" singer's sudden death on June 25..

Authorities have searched the Houston and Las Vegas offices of Murray, who has denied any wrongdoing and who was with Jackson, 50, on the morning of his death. He had been caring for the singer in Los Angeles as he prepared for a series of comeback concerts in the weeks before his death.

Meanwhile, Sony Pictures announced that the "This Is It" concert film compiled of Jackson's rehearsal footage would be released on DVD on January 26. The movie has earned more than $240 million at the global box-office since its October 28 release.

The DVD will include two documentaries on preparations for the planned comeback tour, features on the audition process and a Jackson memories feature.
