Synopsis :

Samir Horn (Don Cheadle), a devout American Muslim, and a former U.S. Army Special Forces expert in explosives, has been mysteriously showing up on the FBI's radar for being in the area of terrorist bombings. FBI agent Roy Clayton (Guy Pearce) heads up a task force investigation to link Horn to these bombings. Clayton is able to question Horn after he was arrested in Yemen for attempting to sell explosives to an Islamic terrorist group. The terrorists break out of prison and take Horn with them. With the help of Max Archer (Neal McDonough), Clayton is able to link Horn to a bombing of an American Consulate in Nice, and a failed police raid to capture his top terrorist contact in London. Clayton has been pursuing Horn around the world and has tracked him to the United States. Clayton must capture Horn before he strikes his next target. Douglas Young (the-movie-guy)

Movie Review :

by Katey Rich

It's late summer, so you can't blame Traitor for not bothering to try too hard. It's got Don Cheadle and Jeff Daniels in it, after all, which is reasonable star power, and a hot-button plot revolving around terrorist attacks on American soil. .

Making Traitor something more than a disposable B-movie was possible, but at this point in the release calendar, way more effort than it was worth. If espionage thrillers are your thing, this one may just tide you over until James Bond comes back in November.

Cheadle stars as Samir Horn, a Sudan-born American who has gone to work for Muslim extremist groups, using his weapons expertise to help execute attacks all over the world. Charged with tracking him down is Roy Clayton (Guy Pearce), an FBI agent who, for some reason, is conducting an international investigation. He sends Samir to prison early in the film, but thanks to the help of his friend Omar (Said Taghmaoui) and some buddies on the outside, Samir escapes from the Yemen prison and starts planning a series of terrorist attacks that target Americans.

In the meantime, Clayton meets with Samir's mother and girlfriend, trying to figure out what made him turn to terrorism and inspiring lots of boilerplate lines like “Bingo! You've got yourself a terrorist.” Only after Samir helps execute terrorist attacks in both London and Spain, killing several innocent people in the process, are we given a plot point that's revealed in the trailer--Samir is actually a super-secret agent for the CIA, and only Carter (Jeff Daniels), knows he's actually on the side of the good guys. Of course, when only one person knows your true identity, you're in a pickle when that person becomes incapacitated. And that's how Clayton and Samir, both of them working for the same team, spend the last quarter of the movie chasing each other across the continent.

Because the plot never bothers to stick with one story for too long, it leaves plot holes that will bother the more skeptical viewer-- like why an FBI agent is dealing with an international terrorism case, or how Samir can explain away the deaths in the terrorist attacks that weren't completely orchestrated by Carter. Cheadle is amazingly sympathetic as the devout Muslim Samir, but there's not enough room in the convoluted plot for him to be a convincing terrorist for half the film and then a hero in the finale. And Pearce, good as he was in movies like Memento and L.A. Confidential, is terribly bland here, affecting a Southern accent and cop swagger that never successfully build his character.

But hey, the movie ends in a satisfying climax, and there are even some neat explosions along the way. Traitor is not excessively dumb or bloodthirsty, and in its own awkward way wants to say something about the way we define “good” and “bad” in this modern war on terror. First-time director Jeffrey Nachmanoff handles things competently enough, and anyone who's worn out on Tom Clancy novels could probably do worse. But for a better structured plot and more interesting thoughts on terrorism, a third viewing of The Dark Knight would be a safer bet.

Britney Spears sweeps at MTV Video Music Awards

By Dean Goodman

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A year after her disastrous comeback attempt at the MTV Video Music Awards, Britney Spears swept the event on Sunday, winning the first three "Moonman" statuettes of her career.

The pop singer, whose career has been overshadowed in recent years by a litany of personal woes, took home the awards for video of the year, best pop video and best female video, all for the tune "Piece of Me."

"I'm in shock right now," the 26-year-old starlet said, after taking the stage for the third time to receive the coveted award for video of the year.

In her brief acceptance speeches, she doled out multiple thanks to God, her family and her fans.

But the 25th annual broadcast of the lifestyle cable channel's flagship bash did not begin promisingly for Spears. After weeks of speculation, the channel announced last week that Spears would open the ceremony and promised some surprises.

All she did, however, was deliver four sentences, shielding her lower face with her microphone.

"Thank you so much. Thank you for all the love. I'm here tonight to celebrate a very important birthday, the 25th anniversary of the VMAs. This is the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards and it starts right now."

The audience, primed for fireworks, barely had time to digest her perfunctory delivery before R&B singer Rihanna belted out the the first of many musical performances.

Spears inadvertently stole the show last year. Clearly unsteady and out-of-shape, she badly lip-synched a song, drawing bewildered stares from the high-wattage audience and universal derision in the messy aftermath.

But the tabloid target seems to have avoided any calamities in recent months. While she puts her life back together, her ex-husband has full custody of their two sons, and her father and a lawyer have taken control of her business affairs.

BUSH WHACKED

Other winners included R&B singer Chris Brown's "With You" for best male video, Linkin Park's "Shadow of the Day" for best rock video, and rapper Lil Wayne's "Lollipop" for best hip-hop video.

The show was hosted by British comedian Russell Brand, who is known for his scene-stealing turn as a lovably sleazy rock star in the romantic comedy "Forgetting Sarah Marshall."

Brand implored Americans to elect Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, and described U.S. President George W. Bush as a "retarded country fella."

He also ridiculed the oaths of virginity undertaken by fresh-faced teen idols the Jonas Brothers, declaring that "Eight years of Bush is what the Jonas Brothers are going to have to cram into their bachelor parties."

But "American Idol" winner Jordin Sparks came to the brothers' defense, saying, "It's not bad to wear a promise ring, because not every guy or girl wants to be a slut."

"High School Musical" star Ashley Tisdale also entered the fray on the brothers' behalf, telling reporters backstage that Brand's jokes were "not really nice."

Even Paris Hilton took pity on the threesome. "Don't pick on them. That's something cool for a kid to keep."

The awards were held in Los Angeles for the first time in a decade, on the historic studio lot of MTV's corporate sibling, Paramount Pictures. The lifestyle cable network used the faux city streets, rooftops, and sound stages all over the Paramount lot to show various performances.

Last year, 7.1 million MTV viewers watched the festivities, according to Nielsen Media Research. While viewership was up from 5.8 million the year before, the numbers were a far cry from the record 12 million viewers for the 1999 version.

Paris Hilton's 'fun' duet

Paris Hilton and boyfriend Benji Madden arrive at the 2008 MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles June 1, 2008. [Agencies]

(China Daily) Paris Hilton and Benji Madden's duets are "happy and fun". The hotel heiress - who has been dating Good Charlotte rocker Benji since early this year - has been recording tracks with her musician beau, and says the songs reflect the couple's relationship.

She said: "The songs are just being mixed right now and should be done soon. I've got a recording studio at my house in Los Angeles and so we've been working there every night. It's been fun.

Our songs are just happy and fun dance music. It reflects what Benji and I are like together - happy and fun." Meanwhile, it has been reported Paris forced organisers of the Toronto International Film Festival to cancel two screenings of a new documentary about her.

The blonde beauty demanded two of the three 'Paris, Not France' screenings were cancelled in a bid to make reviewers even more eager to see the movie.

Her representative Jason Moore said: "We wanted to create more buzz - create some hype. We felt the impact would be more extreme if we had just one screening."

What happens when those who are there for your protection start harassing you? The new flick ‘Lakeview Terrace’ deals with this very theme where a newly wed Interracial couple face harassment from their over interfering Neighbor, who is a LAPD official. Based on the very unique idea of ‘Who do you call for help when you can’t call the Police’, the movie looks very promising with fantastic Samuel L. Jackson in the main lead. Also, one of the producers of this movie is none other than Will Smith.

Music : Ice Cube 'Raw Footage'

Album Review :

by. Brandon Edwards

Ice Cube's Raw Footage is cinematically orchestrated, moody and insightful. Scored by John Murphy [All About The Benjamins] and neatly trimmed to a solid hour [16 shots], Cube's eighth wonder is a more polished collective in comparison to 2006's Laugh Now, Cry Later. In alignment with the menacing album cover is the politically charged street single "Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It." Cube refutes the notion that "prior to gangsta rap music, the world was a peaceful place." Compton was dangerous before gangsta rap! With over three million views on youtube, the controversial leadoff video from Ice Cube just might be his edgiest one to date. So accurate in its portrayal of American hypocrisy and global crisis, the video shows spliced news footage of countries at war, government scandal and racism in the media [Don Imus and Michael Richards]. Cube approaches the subject with twisted irony, and fights back by bearing the burden wholeheartedly for all of the world's ills at present time and prior to his birth. He cynically snarls "blame me."

The question "What is the definition of a pyroclastic flow?" is the underlying theme [intro] of this album asked by narrator and film thespian Keith David [First Sunday]. Cube answers with intense heat from tracks like "Tomorrow," "Cold Places" and "It Takes a Nation." The latter, produced by New York's own Emile, is an aggressively unifying track, reminiscent of the days of the Bomb Squad and Amerikkka's Most Wanted. "Where the fuck is Afrika Bambaataa at…" Cube angrily spits. It's pure King Kong over that familiar West Coast synth and trunk-heavy 808.

Raw Footage ciphers a bevy of special guests. Most notably, heir to the West Coast rap throne The Game. "Get Used To It" is a sonic bubbler backed by a continuous chant that can only be described as West Coast crunk. The simple hook makes it too weak for radio spins and it wouldn't inspire club anarchy. But with Ice Cube, WC and The Game all on one record…this is as G'd up as it gets! Being the youngest amongst two of his rap gods, Mr. Taylor attacks the track with a point to prove and pours gasoline on the rumor mil, ablaze of him possibly being inducted as the newest member of the super-group, Westside Connection. "I'm 'bout to join the Lench Mob, that's me squirtin' the mac, motherfuckers!"

Fortunate enough, Raw Footage is low on filler; "Get Money, Spend Money, No Money" and "Here He Come" being the exception that falls short of average. The unique addition of R&B keeps pace with Cube's maturity as he collaborates with soul singers Angie Stone and Musiq Soulchild on songs like "Hood Mentality" and "Why Me?" This unexpected turn from Cube proves fruitful, as these two gems shine brilliantly on an otherwise dark, penetrating album. With more God references than usual on a Cube disc, stop the violence messages like "A 187 don't make an O.G." can be appreciated in the hood. Especially when it's coming from an O.G. Choruses that advocate responsibility, "If you don't wanna shake that hood mentality/How the fuck we 'sposed to change our reality…" leave a powerful, lasting impression.

Only Ice Cube can tight rope this kind of subject matter in today's rap game without coming off as soft or preachy. He has always been the artist you love and "nigga you love to hate." Anyone feeling stubborn at the gate of acceptance, just better get used to it.

Ice Cube - Do Ya Thang lyrics

Do ya thang man, f**k what they lookin' at (x4)

[Verse 1]

I'm in that hot thang
Gutter lane
Dippin' with the wood grain
So f**kin' hood man they call me the boogeyman
In that slow lane what is your whole name
I forgot that hoes name, I'll call her Louise Lane.
Up on that Boulavard
Twenty fours rotate
Ice Cube comin' through
Gotta make the hoes wait
Roll at my own pace, nigger don't hate
F**k all you fat f**kers leanin' up against my paint.
Ice Cube, I still low paint
Movie star
F**k you, Pour nigger lil drink.
That's how it's going down out here in California
Listen to ma people when a nigger hit the corner.

[Chorus]

Do ya thang man, f**k what they lookin' at (x6)

Mirror, Mirror on the wall
Who is the flyest one of all?

[Verse 2]

Now pull in the parking lot
Nigger find a parking spot
Fired up, everyone want to spark a lot
Puff puff pass, we out on ave
Lookin' for a big fat ass to harrass
Is it you?
Uhuh, I see you lookin', when we roll by
Pussy still cookin'
Freaks get tooken when they lookin' for stars
If you don't like my face bitch look at my car
Keep it simple
I told you once before
It really don't matter how I get you to the mall
It really don't matter how I get you in my low'
Just hop in, lets go, and let your friends know

Chorus

Do ya thang man, f**k what they lookin' at (x6)

Mirror, Mirror on the wall
Who is the flyest one of all?

Verse 3

Do ya thang girl, f**k what they lookin' at
We the dogs gettin' chased by the pussycat
Westcoast baby, with so much gravy
You should call the navy
Ever since the 80's
I've been doin' good, they been doin' bad
When I see you walk by I'm pursuing that
But never chase it
My game is so basic
Soon as I lace it baby wanna taste it
Just face it, put me to the test
Ice Cube would ace it, I'm built for success
(F**k a Rockstar)
We wanna party like a rap star, in the club
In the house or the backyard
(Yeah, Yeah)
You make it rain with ones
I make it rain with hunds
And we get lap dance for nones
They put away they crucifix
And say Ice Cube boy you the shit

Chorus

Do ya thang man, f**k what they lookin' at (x6)

Mirror, Mirror on the wall
Who is the flyest one of all?

Outro

I see you lookin' at me
We don't give a f**k

You know that family-friendly computer-animation is a box-office winner when every studio has its own animation wing. Here, it’s MGM getting in on the act with the animated adventures of everybody’s favorite hunchbacked science partner, Igor (that’s EE-gor, not EYE-gor). A little odd to hear John Cusack voicing the title character, although after flops like The Martian Child and Grace Is Gone I’m guessing he figured an easy paycheck job in a likely hit would make it easier for him to churn out more Ice Harvests, so more power to him. That says, this looks like it might be a fairly painless kids’ movie, with plenty of “don’t judge a book by its cover” sentiments in the Shrek tradition- although hopefully, not as much bodily-function humor.

Madonna's crew to quit?

(Chinadaily) Madonna's 'Sticky and Sweet' touring crew are threatening to quit. Some of the 250 staff on the tour claim they are being treated like "second class citizens" after being given cheap hotel accommodation - while Madonna stayed in an 11,000-a-night castle after her recent show in Nice, France.

A source told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "Everyone is absolutely furious with her and some of them want to walk out of the tour. They feel they are being treated like second-class citizens, despite all their hard work over the last few months. "To make matters worse, they are being forced to stay in horrible places and fly on cheap low-cost flights, while she has the lap of luxury.

Several are already talking about walking if things don't improve." In contrast to her staff, Madonna, 50, flew with her family - husband Guy Ritchie, 39, daughter Lourdes, 11, and sons Rocco, eight and David, two - by private jet to the 11th century Chateau Saint Jeannet.

Madonna made a series of demands for the Nice show last Tuesday, including a helicopter to take her from the stage back to the castle. The 'Give it to Me' singer also kept a team of 12 staff on hand including six beauticians, her own chef and chiropractor.

After the show, Sir Elton John and his 'husband' David Furnish were invited back to the chateau. Meanwhile, Madonna stunned staff at Schoenefeld airport in Germany - after the Berlin show in the tour - by going through security checks wearing a fluffy white bathrobe and black trainers last Thursday.

The 'Sticky and Sweet' tour continues, with stops in Amsterdam tomorrow and Dusseldorf on Thursday.

The comedy centers on a dentist (Gervais) who has a near-death experience during routine surgery and gains the ability to see dead people who ask him for help in contacting the living.

Movie Preview :

Since I first saw the original version of The Office, I've been of the opinion that Ricky Gervais is one of the funniest guys on the planet right now. So why does this trailer leave me strangely cold? Is it that Gervais, who excels at playing off-putting, needy sorts, is ill-suited to a high-concept Hollywood comedy? Is it the presence of Tea Leoni, who hasn’t really seemed comfortable in a role since Flirting With Disaster a dozen years ago? Or is it simply the fact the this is the umpteeneth comedy about a man whose life is thrown out of whack when he learns he can see the dead? Whatever it is, I’m guessing much of the blame can be placed at the feet of veteran screenwriter-turned-director David Koepp, who doesn’t appear to have the same handle on Gervais’ brand of comedy as Gervais and frequent collaborator Stephen Merchant did on The Office and Extras. I still plan on seeing this in support of Gervais, but if the movie sucks, at least now I won’t be too disappointed.

THE GIRL IS MINE 2008 MICHAEL JACKSON FEAT WILL.I.AM

Michael Jackson 'The Girl Is Mine' Lyrics

EVERY NIGHT SHE WALKS RIGHT IN MY DREAMS,
SINCE I MET HER FROM THE START.
I'M SO PROUD I AM THE ONLY ONE
WHO IS SPECIAL IN HER HEART.
THE GIRL IS MINE,
THE DOGGONE GIRL IS MINE.
MM-MM, I KNOW SHE'S MINE,
BECAUSE THE DOGGONE GIRL IS MINE, MM-MM.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE WAY YOU THINK,
SAYING THAT SHE'S YOURS, NOT MINE.
SENDING ROSES AND YOUR SILLY DREAMS,
REALLY JUST A WASTE OF TIME
BECAUSE SHE'S MINE,
THE DOGGONE GIRL IS MINE.
DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME,
BECAUSE THE DOGGONE GIRL IS MINE.

I LOVE YOU MORE THAN HE. (take you anywhere)
BUT I LOVE YOU ENDLESSLY. (loving we will share)
SO COME AND GO WITH ME, TWO ON THE TOWN.
BUT WE BOTH CANNOT HAVE HER,
SO IT'S ONE OR THE OTHER,
AND ONE DAY YOU DISCOVER
THAT SHE'S MY GIRL FOREVER AND EVER.

AH, DON'T BUILD YOUR HOPES TO BE LET DOWN
'CAUSE I REALLY FEEL IT'S TIME.
I KNOW SHE'LL TELL YOU I'M THE ONE FOR HER,
'CAUSE SHE SAID I BLOW HER MIND.
THE GIRL IS MINE,
THE DOGGONE GIRL IS MINE.
DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME,
BECAUSE THE DOGGONE GIRL IS MINE.

SHE'S MINE,
SHE'S MINE,
NO, NO, NO, SHE'S MINE.
THE GIRL IS MINE,
THE GIRL IS MINE.
THE GIRL IS MINE,
THE GIRL IS MINE,.

THE GIRL IS MINE, (mine, mine)
YEP, SHE'S MINE. (mine, mine)
THE GIRL IS MINE, (mine. mine)
YES, SHE'S MINE. (mine, mine)
DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME,
BECAUSE THE DOGGONE GIRL IS MINE.
THE GIRL IS MINE,
THE GIRL IS MINE.

- "MICHAEL, WE'RE NOT GONNA FIGHT ABOUT THIS, OKAY?"
- "PAUL, I THINK I TOLD YOU, I'M A LOVER NOT A FIGHTER."
- "MM, YEAH, I'VE HEARD IT ALL BEFORE, MICHAEL, SHE TOLD ME
THAT I'M HER FOREVER LOVIE, YOU KNOW, DON'T YOU REMEMBER?"
- "WELL, AFTER LOVING ME, SHE SAID SHE COULDN'T LOVE ANOTHER."
- "IS THAT WHAT SHE SAID?"
- "YEAH, SHE SAID IT, YOU KEEP DREAMING!"

I DON'T BELIEVE IT, (mine, mine) NO, NO,
THE GIRL IS MINE, (mine, mine, mine) NO, NO,
YOU'RE MINE.
SHE'S MINE, MINE, MINE, MINE, MINE. (mine, mine, mine)
YES, THE GIRL IS MINE. (mine, mine)
NO! THE GIRL IS MINE. (mine, mine)
THE GIRL IS MINE. (mine, mine, mine)
NO! THE GIRL IS MINE.
THE GIRL IS MINE. (mine, mine, mine)

Synopsis

Academy Award winners Robert De Niro ('Raging Bull') and Al Pacino ('Scent of a Woman') star as a pair of veteran New York City police detectives on the trail of a vigilante serial killer in the adrenaline fueled psychological thriller 'Righteous Kill,' directed by Jon Avnet ('Red Corner,' 'Fried Green Tomatoes') and written by Russell Gewirtz ('Inside Man'). The cast also features hip-hop superstar Curtis Jackson ('Get Rich or Die Tryin').

After 30 years as partners in the pressure cooker environment of the NYPD, highly decorated Detectives David Fisk and Thomas Cowan should be ready for retirement, but aren't. Before they can hang up their badges, they are called in to investigate the murder of a notorious pimp, which appears to have ties to a case they solved years before.

Like the original murder, the victim is a suspected criminal whose body is found accompanied by a four line poem justifying the killing. When additional crimes take place, it becomes clear the detectives are looking for a serial killer, one who targets criminals that have fallen through the cracks of the judicial system. His mission is to do what the cops can't do on their own--take the culprits off the streets for good. The similarities between the recent killings and their earlier case raise a nagging question: Did they put the wrong man behind bars? -

MOVIE REVIEW :

By Gene Seymour, Special to The Times

It seems an imposition on somebody's part to ask Robert De Niro and Al Pacino to use their iconic power to prop up and inflate "Righteous Kill," a tricked-up and often turgid police thriller. At least these two aging virtuosi of the Method don't altogether submit to the temptation of mailing in their performances. And they seem comfortable enough in each other's company on-screen to make you wish there were more scenes that allowed them to just kick back and riff. It'd be a lot more enjoyable than watching the movie strain for clarity -- or cleverness.

De Niro and Pacino play, respectively, Turk and Rooster, veteran New York Police Department detectives whose skills have stayed sharp while their fortitude has been worn down by decades of sordid criminal behavior. Once (though it's not clear how long ago), Turk crossed the line by planting evidence on a child killer who'd been freed from custody by that handy-dandy leitmotif, the legal technicality. Turk's gambit puts the scum back in the hole, but it springs open a growing impatience on his part with due process that leads him and his partner to some late-career snafus and botched arrests.

Now there's a serial killer on the loose in their precinct who leaves calling cards with doggerel. The victims are all criminals who somehow got away with murder, rape and other heinous activities. Turk and Rooster aren't trusted by their superior (Brian Dennehy) to handle the case alone. So another, younger duo (John Leguizamo and Donnie Wahlberg) is brought into the investigation. Through their eyes -- and Rooster's -- it begins to look as though the killer could only be "one of their own," i.e., a rogue cop. And when that child killer turns up dead after the courts have once again set him free, the suspicions become more -- how to put this without spoiling things? -- specific in their focus.

"Righteous Kill's" script is credited to "Inside Man's" Russell
Gewirtz, and you wonder how the sleek, nuanced flow of that earlier movie evaded this one. The movie seems so intent on deploying its gimmicks that it clumsily shoves aside any genuine character development. Turk's girlfriend and colleague, Karen (the habitually intriguing Carla Gugino), carries a few quirks that would have been worth fleshing out even just a little bit more.

But everything, even logic, is sacrificed in favor of the movie's main event: the commingling of De Niro and Pacino's thickening personas. There's no getting around the fact that the erstwhile young lions are long in the tooth. The pouches beneath Pacino's eyes, for instance, look deep enough to carry his laundry -- and yours. But those eyes can still burn a hole through the screen, even in what for all practical purposes is a "Law & Order" episode bent and stretched beyond all hope or reason.

"Righteous Kill." MPAA rating: R for violence, pervasive vulgarisms and brief drug use. Running time: 1 hour, 41 minutes. In general release.
