Anne Hathaway:a big 'Weirdo'
(China Daily) Anne Hathaway is "a big weirdo".
The 25-year-old actress said although she loves making mainstream movies like 'The Devil Wears Prada', she also enjoys lending her talents to smaller projects like her new film 'Rachel Getting Married'.
She told BANG Showbiz: "I'm a big weirdo, so I'd love to do much more experimental stuff. And the fact I haven't done it up until now is not through a lack of desire, it's more a lack of opportunity.
"I just think, 'The freakier the better', you know? "I know some of my choices are more mainstream and I think there is a creativity to that as well.
But it's amazing to be able to say at 25-years-old, I have made a wedding movie with Kate Hudson in 'Bride Wars' and to also say I've made a wedding movie with Jonathan Demme."
Demme directs Anne in drama 'Rachel Getting Married', where she plays a drug addict who leaves rehab to attend her sister's wedding.

Movie Review :
by Mack Rawden
Remember playing paper, scissors, rock in first grade and throwing out rock, only to have some ankle biter scream typhoon and giggle like a sorority chick after two Cosmos and an eighth of mushrooms? Well, that ADHD-ridden tool box grew up and made a movie, and surprise surprise it’s an annoying befuddlement of confusion, which doesn’t even bother conforming to its own rules. Not that every film needs adherence to societal norms. Flying monkeys may not be a reasonable threat in Kansas City, Kansas, but amidst a hazy marsh of yellow brick lanes and irritable witches, the prospect seems logical enough. Nothing about The Haunting Of Molly Hartley hints at plausibility--even if one were to willingly and greedily accept deals with the devil and scissor-toting Susan Smith mothers as part of everyday life. It’s like finding out the Singing Telegram Girl bludgeoned the motorist--without motive--in a special 20th Anniversary Edition of Clue.
Molly Hartley (Haley Bennett) is a bitchy and angst-filled seventeen year old girl who just moved to a new town with her father (Jake Weber). She enrolls at a sophisticated, hoity-toity private school, quickly befriends a proselytizing religious nut job (Shanna Collins) and catches the eye of the school hottie Joseph Young (Chace Crawford). Probably because she’s going through that high school awkward stage or possibly because her mother stabbed her with a pair of scissors before being committed to a mental institution, Molly has trouble finding peace of mind in her new surroundings. So, her father forces her to see a school-appointed psychologist. Unfortunately, this weekly time to talk it out, along with everything else in her life, just seems to cause panic attacks, nose bleeds, and hallucinations.
Molly Hartley isn’t a likeable protagonist. In fact, she’s a complete bitch who wants to shack up with a wannabe frat boy, hang out with drunken cunt, and piss off her loving father. She’s unlikable, unsophisticated, and way too close to Shannon Doherty for comfort. Unfortunately, the antagonist isn’t likeable even in a so-evil-he’s-kinda-cool-way either. That’s probably because he doesn’t exist. There is no damn antagonist. There’s creepy Jesus freaks. There’s a murderous mother. There’s vapid mean girls who attend the same school. But the film never even bothers telling us who we should be rooting against. It’s like watching a pedophile with AIDS trying to save a prostitute who murders cats in her spare time, while simultaneously finding his cleaning came back with ketchup stains and his brother's softball game got rained out. What the hell does anything have to do with anything? It’s all just filler for an underwhelming out-of-left Jupiter conclusion which couldn’t have been solved by the ass baby of Hercule Poirot and Sherlock Holmes. If I sound under whelmed, well, it’s only because of everything I’ve told you.
Look: this movie probably doesn’t even deserve half a star. It’s ill-conceived, laughably and unintentionally ridiculous, and doesn’t even seem to be putting forth any effort for long, expansive stretches. It’s an afront to the movie-going public to think a studio could be so crass as to even toy with the idea that this might please anyone. But it’s a horror movie. For better or for worse, the standard rigmarole isn’t in place. If a horror film succeeds in even being momentarily frightening, then any issues with the plot, acting, or direction can be ignored because that cute girl sitting next to you grabbed your hand and pulled your close. So, take your goddamn one-and-a-half stars, Molly Hartley. I won’t hold my breath for a sequel.

Jessica Biel's old fear

Jessica Biel is petrified of ageing.
The 26-year-old star can already feel changes in her body, and is scared about how she will cope when other people start to notice.
She said: "I don't know how I'll cope with ageing - I better start figuring it out. I feel my knees changing - like, why do I have this pain when I'm running on the treadmill? What's going on with my lower back when I wake up in the morning? I just feel changes.
"And I'm definitely fearful in a very vain manner about my body ageing. I think it's freaky weird to look at a picture of your grandmother when she was a young woman and look at her now."
Despite worrying about the onslaught of wrinkles, Jessica insists she will never resort to cosmetic surgery to keep her looking young.
She added to Britain's Marie Claire magazine: "I am really afraid of blades on my face - that freaks me out beyond belief. I would way rather have wrinkles than have some slice-up going on."

Gwen Stefani's son's spoon

Gwen Stefani's two-month-old son eats with a $4,000 diamond encrusted spoon.
The No Doubt singer - who welcomed her second child with husband Gavin Rossdale, Zuma Nesta Rock, into the world in August - was thrilled when her former bandmates presented her with the impressive piece of cutlery.
A source said: "Gwen loves it. She would never buy it herself, but that is what makes it so special."
The specially-made sterling silver baby spoon was created by exclusive jewellers Chrome Hearts.
Earlier this month, it was claimed 39-year-old Gwen - who also has a two-year-old son Kingston with Gavin - was struggling to shift her post-pregnancy weight.
A source said: "Gwen feels like a giant house at the moment. She found this pregnancy hard and the weight just piled on. She hoped to shed 40 to 50lbs within three months. Her appetite is running wild. She can't resist fries and sandwiches and has constant cravings for red meat."

'High School Musical' commences at No.1 with $42M

(China Daily) The crazed killer Jigsaw has been done in by a bunch of singing and dancing teens.
Disney's "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" hoofed its way to the top of the weekend box office class with $42 million, while Lionsgate's horror sequel "Saw V" had to settle for second place with $30.5 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.
A big-screen sequel to the Disney Channel TV movies, "High School Musical 3" had a record opening for a song-and-dance flick, easily beating the previous best of $27.8 million, set over the summer by "Mamma Mia!"
"High School Musical 3" and "Saw V" combined to send Hollywood revenues soaring. The top 12 movies took in $120.5 million, up 41 percent from the same weekend last year, when "Saw IV" led the weekend with a $31.8 million debut.
"It was good vs. evil at the box office, and both won," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box office tracker Media By Numbers. "That combination of a G-rated and an R-rated movie, both chasing completely different audiences, proved to be a huge success."
"Saw V" pulled in about the same amount of cash over opening weekend as the last three flicks in the franchise about the diabolical Jigsaw, but it was the first that failed to finish at No. 1 since the original "Saw" debuted in third place in 2004.
The horror crowd was simply outnumbered by young fans and their parents turning up to see how senior year played out for the "High School Musical" cast — led by Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel and Corbin Bleu.
Mark Zoradi, president of Disney's motion-picture group, said the continuing story of lovebirds Troy and Gabriella played largely to the TV audience of young girls, though the big-screen version also broadened the "High School Musical" fan base.
"There's no question there's a female skew to it and a family skew to it," Zoradi said. "The movie is working not only to that core preteen audience, but also aging up a little bit and also bringing in some boys."
"High School Musical 3" also pulled in $40 million in 19 other countries where it has opened, among them Britain, Germany and Spain.
The weekend's other new wide release, the Warner Bros. police saga "Pride and Glory," opened weakly with $6.3 million to come in at No. 5. "Pride and Glory" stars Edward Norton and Colin Farrell in a tale of corruption among a family of New York City cops.
The previous weekend's No. 1 flick, 20th Century Fox's action tale "Max Payne," fell to third place with $7.6 million, raising its 10-day total to $29.7 million.
Clint Eastwood's "Changeling," starring Angelina Jolie as a single mom tormented by police handling the investigation of her missing son, got off to a healthy start with $502,000 in limited release. It played in 15 theaters to averaged a strong $33,441 a cinema, compared with $11,593 in 3,623 theaters for "High School Musical 3." Distributor Universal expands "Changeling" into nationwide release Friday.
Also in limited release, Sony Pictures Classics' "Synecdoche, New York" had a solid opening of $172,926 in nine theaters, averaging $19,214. It stars Philip Seymour Hoffman as a writer staging a mammoth theater production that fills warehouses, and the directing debut of screenwriter Charlie Kaufman ("Being John Malkovich").
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Media By Numbers LLC. Final figures will be released Monday.
1. "High School Musical 3," $42 million.
2. "Saw V," $30.5 million.
3. "Max Payne," $7.6 million.
4. "Beverly Hills Chihuahua," $6.9 million.
5. "Pride and Glory," $6.3 million.
6. "The Secret Life of Bees," $5.9 million.
7. "W.", $5.3 million.
8. "Eagle Eye," $5.1 million.
9. "Body of Lies," $4.1 million.
10. "Quarantine," $2.6 million.

Katy Perry no Britney

(China Daily) Katy Perry has vowed not to follow in Britney Spears' footsteps.
The 'I Kissed a Girl' singer - who is dating Gym Class Heroes star Travis McCoy - insists she has no intention of letting fame go to her head.
When asked how she would stop herself copying Britney, who had a public breakdown earlier this year, Katy replied: "You have to be really strong-headed to survive in this industry.
"If you are going to get into it, lose your vices because they are not something you should have - especially if you are in the public eye. Eat your vegetables, take your vitamins and be discerning about the people that are around you.
"Know who is a creep and who is not, who is there for the right reasons and who is not there for the right reasons."
Katy, famous for her unique outfit choices, also explained where she gets her fashion inspiration from.
She added: "I have a fascination with all things 40s and the way women had a poise and a unique look. They were more put together and cared how they presented themselves.
"Everybody had their own kind of deal, it wasn't like walking robots wearing one label or having to wear one thing because it was the coolest, trendiest thing. I think that's why I make so many daring choices with my style, because it goes to show that you don't have to be like everybody else."

Angelina Jolie's questioning kids

'The Changeling' actress - who has three-month-old twins, a biological two-year-old daughter and three adopted children with partner Brad - admits the couple have "done everything backwards" by having children before they got married, but insists she is in no rush to tie the knot despite pressure from her kids.
She said: "Usually people fall in love and everything revolves around the ritual of marriage, children are an afterthought. We did everything backwards.
"But sooner or later it will be the kids who ask us to get married. You know, they see films and start asking questions. Such as, 'Why are Shrek and his love Fiona married and you're not?' "
The 33-year-old actress also revealed her children have inherited her love of travel, and become restless if they stay in one place for too long.
She added to Italy's Vanity Fair magazine: "We were in France these last few months and after a while they started asking when we could get back on a plane.
"I want them to be able to walk through a marketplace in Addis Ababa and not bat an eye, not think it is dirty and ugly, but that it just represents another part of the world and humanity."

Catherine Zeta-Jones to star in "Cleo"

By Jay A. Fernandez and Borys Kit
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Catherine Zeta-Jones is going back to the boards.
The Welsh actress, who won an Oscar for her supporting turn as the scheming Velma Kelly in "Chicago," is set to star in "Cleo," a period musical to be directed by Steven Soderbergh.
Hugh Jackman is in negotiations to take a lead role in a retelling of the story of Cleopatra, Antony and Caesar set in the 1920s (also the era of "Chicago's" shenanigans).
Joseph Mankiewicz co-wrote and directed the most famous "Cleopatra," the 1963 historical epic that starred Elizabeth Taylor, Rex Harrison and Richard Burton. It was hugely expensive and considered a flop but was ultimately nominated for best picture and won four Oscars.
Soderbergh is developing a Liberace biopic, with Zeta-Jones' husband Michael Douglas attached to star.
"Che," the director's two-part Che Guevara biopic, will be released by IFC Films, and "The Informant," starring Matt Damon, will hit theaters in March. "Cleo" would be Soderbergh's first foray into musical features.
Zeta-Jones has the romantic comedy "The Rebound" coming out in January. She was in theaters last year with "No Reservations." Jackman will be in theaters next month with "Australia."

Bardem won an Oscar this year for his supporting role in "No Country For Old Men."

Zack and Miri are two lifelong friends who are deep in debt and enlist the help of their friends to make a porno movie for some quick cash. But as everybody starts "doing" everybody, Zack and Miri realize that they may have more feelings for each other than they previously thought.
Movie Review :

by Josh Tyler
With the casting of Seth Rogen as his lead, I’ve heard people dismiss Zack and Miri Make a Porno as writer/director Kevin Smith’s attempt to be Judd Apatow. I can’t think of anything more spectacularly unfair. Kevin Smith was pulling off raunchy humor with a heart of gold long before we’d even heard the name Apatow, he’s just never gotten the same kind credit for it. If anything, that’s probably because Kevin is often less interested in the heavy dramatic elements Apatow uses to win critics and audiences over. Smith is, self-admittedly, into dick jokes. Usually there’s a touch of dramatic sweetness mixed in, especially in some of his more poignant, focused movies like Clerks II and Chasing Amy, but more often than not he’s there for a laugh, the dirtier the better.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno is the ultimate embodiment of Kevin Smith's cock = comedy philosophy. It's pure comedy. In the age of internet voyeurism, the story of two average nobodies making pornography happens all across America on a daily basis, but unless they’re shooting a sequel to two girls one cup, it’s almost certainly never this dirty and definitely never this funny.

Zack (Seth Rogen) and Miri (Elizabeth Banks) have been best friends since high school. They share a crummy apartment, work lousy jobs, and instinctively avoid becoming romantically entangled with one another (though it’s obvious to us that they’re soul mates) while living lives that are clearly going nowhere. Financially speaking, they’re utterly destitute and after an encounter at their high school reunion Zack and Miri decide that the only way they’ll ever make it big (or pay their rent) is to do their own porno movie. After all, everybody wants to see everybody else naked, even if it’s two nobodies from the mid-west. Couple of problems though. They don’t have any money for food let alone movie making, they know nothing about shooting porno, and despite their bravado, neither of them is very comfortable with the idea of getting naked on film, much less having sex with each other.

To make the movie happen they recruit a group of misfits including Smith regulars like Jeff Anderson and Jason Mewes, a couple of porn stars to provide nudity in Traci Lords and Katie Morgan, and Office alum Craig Robinson to bring the funny. Actually, if there’s a problem with Zack and Miri it’s that the supporting cast is so good you may find yourself more interested in watching them than the movie’s two leads. Anderson delivers some of the funniest lines of the film, Mewes finally whips his cock out, and Craig Robinson literally steals every single scene he’s in. Extended cameos from people like Superman Brandon Routh and Mac guy Justin Long really kill too, and they’re so good you’ll likely leave the theater wondering if there’s some way to convince Smith to make Routh and Long’s characters the subject of his next film.

For better or worse though, Zack and Miri’s relationship remains the center of Zack and Miri. For me, the film lags a little when it spends time exploring their softer sides and it soars when we stop worrying about how Zack and Miri are feeling, instead getting down to the business of letting their friends attempt to shoot porno. Whenever they’re working on putting their sex flick together, the movie is filled with big, big, raunchy laughs. The story needs their relationship of course, lest it turn into pornography itself. The sweetness of their awkward, mutually unrequited love is what keeps the audience, even you puritanical types, on their side. When Smith does get around to the business of making his two leads have sex they’ve been avoiding, that moment between them is touching, a sharp bit of directing, and one of the most memorable sequences in the film. It’s just that Zack and Miri Make a Porno is at its most consistent when it’s more “Make a Porno” and less “Zack and Miri”.

Kevin Smith is known for his smart, edgy dialogue and there’s plenty of his brilliant, wordy style on display in Zack and Miri. He’s combined that with a great cast, maybe the most talented he’s ever worked with, and the result is one of Smith’s funniest, dirtiest, most gleefully offensive movies to date.

Beyonce Knowles' 'exciting' new life

(China Daily) Beyonce Knowles is "terrified, but excited" about married life.
The 'Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)' singer - who wed Jay-Z earlier this year - admits it is taking time for her to get used to her new relationship status.
She said: "This is a new chapter for me. I'm terrified, but excited. It's like I'm a new woman!"
The 27-year-old beauty also revealed Jay-Z has inspired a lot of songs on her new record 'I Am?', adding: "I am happy right now and this album has a lot of love songs that talk about my emotions - me naked with my heart exposed."
Beyonce also spoke about her role as blues singer Etta James in upcoming film 'Cadillac Records', a role for which she was required to gain 15lbs.
She told America's InStyle magazine: "It was way easier - and tastier - than having to lose so much weight for 'Dreamgirls'. I also studied Etta's mannerisms and tried to make them my own. My performance, my posture - everything was so different from who I am. It was difficult."

George Clooney's romantic reunion

(China Daily) George Clooney has rekindled his romance with Krista Allen.
The actor, who has previously dated the actress twice before, reportedly realised he still has feelings for Krista and decided to give their relationship another try.
A friend of George told the New York Daily News newspaper: "George really loves her. Krista has always been there for him. She admits she just can't get over him."
The pair first dated in 2002 when George cast Krista in 'Confessions of a Dangerous Mind'. They were together for two years, before Krista ended the relationship in March 2004.
George - who went on to romance British model Lisa Snowden after the break-up - and Krista were reunited in 2006, before splitting again.
Although the 47-year-old actor has previously insisted he isn't interested in having children, George is said to "adore" Krista's 11-year-old son Jake.
George's representative has not commented on rumours he is romancing 37-year-old Krista again.

'Tuneless' Brad Pitt

(China Daily) Edward Norton says Brad Pitt "can't sing", so won't be starring in a musical version of 'Fight Club'.
Edward has heard rumours a musical version of the hit 1999 film could be on the cards, but says neither he nor Brad - who played the two lead characters in the movie - will be participating.
The 39-year-old actor said: "This has been floating around for a while. I've seen different notions of it. I doubt it'll be me and Brad. I know Brad can't sing."
Although he has ruled out starring in the musical, Edward is intrigued by reports Nine Inch Nails star Trent Reznor will be penning the music for it.
He said: "Reznor would be about the right vibe for it, I guess."
Edward also refused to confirm rumours he will be appearing in 'The Avengers' or a sequel of 'The Incredible Hulk', insisting movie fans will probably find out if he has landed the parts before he does.
He told MTV: "I really couldn't say whether I will be reprising the Hulk. The minds of Marvel are sometimes opaque. I won't say obtuse, but opaque. I don't have any idea what they want to do. This notion of connecting the Marvel characters - who knows where they'll go.
"I really actually have no information about 'The Avengers'. I don't know what the agenda is in the moment, but I'm sure you'll find out more than me."

FX buys "Max Payne," box office duds

(China Daily) FX has snapped up cable rights to three 20th Century Fox films, including "Max Payne," the current box office champ starring Mark Wahlberg.

Betrayed Bond embarks on bloody quest for truth

REUTERS/Susie Allnutt/Sony Pictures Entertainment/Handout
By Mike Collett-White
LONDON (Reuters) - A grim-faced 007 is on the warpath in the latest James Bond movie "Quantum of Solace," the sequel to box office hit "Casino Royale" starring Daniel Craig as the world's most famous fictional spy.
Bond shows no mercy as he crosses Europe and South America to discover why the woman he loved betrayed him before she died.
He also battles evil eco-terrorist Dominic Greene who wants to install an exiled general in what is supposed to be Bolivia in exchange for land containing huge natural resources.
In a complex web of diplomacy and deceit, the secret agent falls foul both of his enemy and British and U.S. intelligence.
While early reviews generally preferred the previous movie, most agreed that 40-year-old Craig, in his second outing as Bond, has cemented his place in the coveted role which brings instant fame and fortune to the actor who plays it.
German-Swiss director Marc Forster admitted to feeling the pressure with his biggest movie to date.
"The challenge (is) there's a huge amount of expectations, and to rise up to that and have this pressure on hand and being watched by the media and the fans constantly," he told Reuters in Los Angeles.
"I thought it was interesting that Orson Welles responded to what his biggest regret in life was: never making a mainstream movie," Forster added.
"It made me think, it's fascinating that I actually would make a movie that more people would see than all the six movies I've done until now."
Forster is best known for directing Afghan-themed "The Kite Runner" and "Finding Neverland," about Peter Pan author J.M. Barrie starring Johnny Depp.
HIGH HOPES
Quantum of Solace, the action-packed 22nd installment in the Bond franchise, has some way to go to beat its predecessor.
Casino Royale was one of the most successful Bond films, earning $594 million in global ticket sales, according to tracking site www.boxofficemojo.com.
It was also lauded for revitalizing a series that had become stale, with credit going to Craig, dubbed the first blond Bond, for making 007 grittier than earlier incarnations.
Jack Warner, who covers the box office for Screen International, said Sony Corp's Columbia Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios will aim to exceed the Casino Royale tally this time around.
"They have a very strong brand to build on," he said.
"No one expects a sequel to do less well than the one before it. Casino Royale was popular critically and with audiences, and they will be looking to break that."
Critics agreed that Quantum of Solace was no match for Casino Royale, although first reviews were mostly positive.
James Christopher of the Times gave it four stars out of five, but The Sunday Times weekly was less generous, with Richard Brooks calling the film a "license to bore."
Craig disagreed with the description of the film as a revenge story.
"The idea of vengeance is the furthest thing from his mind," he told Reuters. "He just wants to get a closure."
"Quantum of Solace" has its royal world premiere in London on October 29, opens in British theatres on October 31 and in the United States on November 14.

"Torino" is one of two Eastwood films seeking kudos from the nation's critics and voting groups. His period drama "Changeling," starring Angelina Jolie, opens wide on Friday through Universal.
Opening on a Wednesday in limited release, "Torino" will face box office competition over the subsequent December 19 weekend that includes two wide-release star vehicles -- Sony's Will Smith starrer "Seven Pounds" and Warners' own Jim Carrey-toplined "Yes Man."

Movie Review:
Guy Ritchie has done it again. RocknRolla is yet another Ritchie classic like we've seen twice before with Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels in 1998 and Snatch in 2000. It may not exactly top either of those two in content, but it's certainly the best British gangster film in the last eight years, which says a lot. Plus it doesn't hurt to add another great film to the Ritchie library, especially one with such a genuinely entertaining line-up of actors. In short, RocknRolla boasts that same brilliant visual style that Ritchie is known for, as well as a deceitful story as sharp as the one from Snatch. Whether you end up liking the story or not, there's no denying that Ritchie is a talented filmmaker capable of pure entertainment.

Focusing on two smalltime crooks named One Two (Gerard Butler) and Mumbles (Idris Elba), RocknRolla delves into the British underworld like we've seen before in Ritchie's films, but this time it's a big-time businessman named Lenny (Tom Wilkinson), who thinks he runs London, that becomes the ball in this nasty Rugby match. Before long, Russian billionaire Uri (Karel Roden) loans Lenny his lucky painting, it ends up stolen by the supposedly dead rockstar Johnny Quid (Toby Kebbell), and the entire allotment of London's gangsters and crooks get wrapped up in a complex game of cat-and-mouse in the search for the painting. It's not the smoothest plot in Ritchie's history, but in the end it pulls itself together.

To call RocknRolla a British version of The Godfather wouldn't be inaccurate, although I'm not going to reveal all of what makes the two so similar. Guy Ritchie movies are almost an acquired taste - with so much style, it's hard to find the substance unless you know where to look. But all that I love about Ritchie's films shined through in RocknRolla. When Lenny says that it costs an arm and a leg, in a Guy Ritchie movie, he literally means an arm and a leg, with bloody ruthlessness and all. That kind of sharp-witted humor and brutal realism fills up RocknRolla to the gills, but just sitting back and enjoying Ritchie's cinematic style will help you overcome the rough spots in the complex story.

I won't necessarily say that RocknRolla is any better than Snatch, which still remains my all-time favorite Ritchie film, but there were numerous moments of genius in RocknRolla that rivaled it. Like a cross-country road trip with your friends, there are scenes that are slow and tedious, and others that are so energetic and vibrant, that it creates a dynamic that Ritchie fans will hopefully find as entertaining as I did. As with Snatch as well, the climax near the end needs to be unforgettable, and in RocknRolla it certainly is – you'll never look at Russian thugs and Gerard Butler the same again - and you won't soon forget it. This film isn't out to win an Oscar, but it is still stylistic cinematic entertainment at its best.
