McMillan says in an interview with The Associated Press that word of an agreement between Katherine Jackson and Deborah Rowe, the biological mother of Prince Michael and Paris-Michael would come sometime Thursday July 30, 2009. [Agencies]

LOS ANGELES – Michael Jackson's children will live with their grandmother under an agreement reached with the King of Pop's ex-wife that ensures the youngsters won't have to endure a public fight over who raises them.

The agreement announced Thursday preserves Jackson's wishes as spelled out in his 2002 will, and reopens the door to a relationship with Deborah Rowe, the mother of Jackson's two oldest children. Rowe will be allowed to see her children in visits coordinated by a child psychologist.

Rowe will receive no money from the deal, as she had after previous custody arrangements with Jackson.

The agreement ends the possibility of a lengthy and public custody battle between Katherine Jackson and Rowe. It spares the children, who range in age from 7 to 12, from appearing before a judge and declaring who they would prefer to live with.

The announcement also ends weeks of rampant speculation about who would care for the children and Rowe's intentions, which were never officially announced before Thursday.

Michael Jackson, who died June 25 at 50, was the sole parent to his three children. He was married to Rowe for three years, but both had described the relationship as borne out of friendship and that Rowe had given birth to Prince Michael, 12, and Paris-Michael, 11, as a "gift." They divorced after Paris-Michael was born.

His third child, 7-year-old Prince Michael II, known as Blanket, was born to a surrogate and the mother's identity has never been revealed.

In a joint statement, attorneys for both women made clear that the agreement was reached with the children's best interests in mind.

"Mrs. Jackson and the family are pleased this matter is resolved and was handled in a caring, thoughtful and courteous manner by the parties and their representatives," L. Londell McMillan and Diane Goodman, attorneys for Mrs. Jackson, wrote in a statement. "We were all united in our goals to do what is best for Michael's wonderful children, and both Mrs. Jackson and Debbie Rowe were on the exact same page."

Eric M. George, an attorney for Rowe, called the agreement a "dignified outcome." George credited Katherine Jackson's attorneys for their work on the deal, and expressed pride with Rowe for "her integrity and selflessness."

Keeping Mrs. Jackson as the children's guardian should ease the numerous transitions they're undergoing, said Jill Waterman, a UCLA psychologist and adjunct professor.

"They need to be with someone who knows them, cares for them, who they trust, who they have an attachment and a bond with," she said. "They're going to need lots of support."

The use of a child psychologist to coordinate and oversee the visits is a smart move, said Dorian Traube, a professor at the University of Southern California's School of Social Work.

"This is a good model for introducing these kids to a woman that they don't know very well," Traube said.

Waterman said the visits with Rowe will likely start off short, and continue to be supervised until the children feel comfortable with the arrangement.

She said child psychologists are often used in situations where children are being reintroduced to a parent who lost visitation privileges. It's often a temporary arrangement, she said, since the aim is for the children and parents to develop their own relationship.

"The whole point of doing this is to build to a point of autonomy," Traube said.

She said an experienced psychologist will also help the children deal with their father's death, and ensure that Jackson's children, family and Rowe "are comfortable because it is an unusual situation."

The children have been living with their 79-year-old grandmother at the family's home in the San Fernando Valley since their father's death. Despite their untraditional upbringing, they have been described as model children.

Katherine Jackson was perhaps her son's most constant and trusted confidante — by his side through the triumphs and successes of his music career and his downfall after being accused of child molestation.

The singer clearly favored his mother as caretaker for his children, designating her as his top choice in his will. His backup was singer and friend Diana Ross.

Although Jackson's children have grown up without a mother, Jackson adored his.

"Every child thinks their mother is the greatest mother in the world, but we Jacksons never lost that feeling," Jackson wrote in "Moonwalk," his 1988 autobiography. "Because of Katherine's gentleness, warmth and attention, I can't imagine what it's like to grow up without a mother's love."

Jackson was fiercely protective of his children, generally shielding or disguising them in public. Their introduction to the public came during Jackson's memorial service, an event broadcast worldwide. Paris-Michael provided the service's most touching moment when she tearfully eulogized her father as "the best father you could ever imagine."

Rowe, 50, who breeds horses and has a home northeast of Los Angeles, has not been a fixture in the children's lives. She met Jackson when she was a receptionist for celebrity dermatologist Dr. Arnold Klein.

Public records show there have been significant gaps in visits between Rowe and her children, but they do not indicate when she last saw them.

In 2001 Rowe wrote of Jackson's parenting when she petitioned to relinquish her parental rights. "Michael has been a wonderful father to the children and I do not wish to share parenting responsibilities with Michael because he is doing so well without me."

At the time, she said she hadn't seen her children in more than a year.

Although much has been made of that decision since Jackson's death, her parental rights were eventually restored and she petitioned for custody after the singer was charged with child molestation in 2003.

Yet she was one of Jackson's strongest witnesses at his 2005 child molestation trial in Santa Barbara.

Rowe described him to jurors during the singer's criminal trial as: "Generous to a fault, good father, great with kids, puts other people ahead of him. Brilliant businessman."

At the time, she testified it had been two-and-a-half years since she saw her children.

Although Rowe never formally petitioned for custody after Jackson's death, the agreement with Katherine Jackson will likely be discussed during a hearing scheduled for Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court. That hearing will now focus more on lingering issues with Jackson's multimillion dollar estate, of which Katherine Jackson has vied for control.

Ashley Tisdale sheds Disney image in new "Aliens"

Ashley Tisdale sheds Disney image in new
Actress Ashley Tisdale poses at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles May 31, 2009. [Agencies]

LOS ANGELES- Her platinum white hair is long gone, replaced by silky smooth, dark brown locks. Yet that doesn't stop young girls from recognizing "High School Musical" star Ashley Tisdale at restaurants and asking for autographs.

Tisdale's role as Sharpay Evans, an over-the-top teenager who will stop at nothing to get what she wants in Disney's "High School Musical," has given her a huge following and altered Tisdale's life forever.

And the 24-year-old actress is expanding her career in new projects, including her role in movie "Aliens in the Attic," which debuts in U.S. theaters on Friday.

Tisdale continues to work in TV where "HSM" was a huge hit on the Disney Channel before becoming a movie, and she is even producing. Her singing has landed the actress a chart-topping recording career, and her second studio album, "Guilty Pleasures," comes out this week.

On the downside, her growing popularity has meant Tisdale has a constant trail of paparazzi following her around.

"I don't have a private life anymore; that's gone out the door," said Tisdale, but she has not let that stop her career.

In "Aliens in the Attic," Tisdale sheds her Sharpay image to portray a teen named Bethany, who joins other kids to battle aliens that land on the roof of her family's summer home.

Tisdale calls Bethany a "typical 17-year-old teen," whereas Sharpay tended toward being "very dramatic and very much a caricature." And Tisdale said getting away from "HSM" helps show her versatility as an actress.

"People know me as Sharpay, so playing a different character like Bethany is a great departure, she said.

NEXT GENERATION WITHERSPOON

Yet Tisdale's past is one reason "Aliens in the Attic" producer, Barry Josephson, wanted her onboard. "She brings the female audience to the movie," he said. "The other advantage is that she's really, really funny."

Josephson, whose credits include the movie "Enchanted" and the TV show "Bones," calls Tisdale a "new generation Reese Witherspoon or Jennifer Aniston" because of her instinct for comedy. Yet he feels she can go beyond that.

In fact, Tisdale is making further inroads in TV as the voice of the character Candace on Disney Channel's animated "Phineas & Ferb," and she will appear in an upcoming episode of ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," helping host Ty Pennington build a home for a needy family.

Tisdale and her company, Blondie Girl Productions, are developing several TV projects, including a dating reality show she says the E! Network has considered launching. A pilot episode was already shot.

"I can't say much about it because it's not yet put together for the channel, but I can say that it's not in my age range. It's older - a little bit of 'Sex and the City.'"

Tisdale said she is looking for follow-up movie projects to "Aliens in the Attic," and she would "love to do more comedies or even romantic comedies."

Josephson noted that her other talent, singing, will likely come in very handy in the future, too.

"Ashley can do a biopic like Jennifer Lopez did with 'Selena' or take on a Streisand-type role. With her music and acting abilities, Ashley is very unique."

"Funny People" laughing loudest at box office

Adam Sandler poses at the premiere of his new comedy film "Funny People" in Hollywood July 20, 2009. [Agencies]

LOS ANGELES – It's shaping up as a tale of two genres at the weekend box office in North America.

A trio of studios will be singing "We Are Family" again, but the No. 1 picture is likely to be "Funny People," a new R-rated comedy that extends another recent theatrical trend.

The family-friendly films "G-Force," "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" and "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs" nabbed three of the top five spots last weekend, so one might think that the moms-and-kids segment is saturated. But so far this summer, parents have shown boundless enthusiasm for rounding up the tots for a couple hours of air-conditioned diversion.

Fox's family-targeting adventure fantasy "Aliens in the Attic," which opens Friday, mixes computer-animated extraterrestrials into predominantly live-action shenanigans. Originally scheduled for a spring bow, "Aliens" -- then titled "They Came from Upstairs" -- was delayed after the studio decided to tweak its screenplay and visual effects. John Schultz ("The Honeymooners") directed the young ensemble cast.

"It's summertime, and I think there's plenty of interest for a picture like this," Fox distribution president Bruce Snyder said.

Prerelease tracking indicates "Aliens" might do best with boys, opening with $11 million-$13 million through Sunday. That's just below the expected range for the second weekend of Disney's family adventure fantasy "G-Force," which ruled the box office last session, and Warner Bros.' "Half-Blood Prince," whose third frame will be bolstered by an expansion to 160 Imax venues.

But this weekend's box office crown is likely to be worn by a comedy bearing a restricted rating -- like the other two pictures in last weekend's top five, "The Ugly Truth" and "Orphan." Universal's "Funny People" -- a Judd Apatow-directed dramatic comedy starring Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen and Leslie Mann -- appears a lock to open north of $20 million.

How much higher is the subject of much speculation. Industry forecasts have been unusually errant this summer, and "Funny" is considered a picture whose fate is tied to word-of-mouth from its earliest audiences.

So a positive reaction among Friday patrons -- spread via Facebook, Twitter, texting, etc. -- could prove particularly key toward the picture's sustaining momentum Saturday and Sunday.

With a running time pushing 2-1/2 hours and a story involving a stand-up comic with cancer (Sandler), "People" isn't the most obvious sort of Apatow comedy. But it has been drawing relatively positive early reviews, and broadly solid prerelease interest appears strongest among male youngsters.

Produced for an estimated $70 million, "People" is the third Apatow-helmed picture after "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" and "Knocked Up." "Virgin" opened in August 2005 with $21.4 million, en route to ringing up $109.4 million domestically; "Knocked Up" bowed with $30.7 million and registered $148.8 million in total domestic coin.

The weekend's third wide opener is a horror picture with modest aims. The Freestyle-distributed "The Collector," starring Josh Stewart ("The Haunting of Molly Hartley") appears headed for a bow in the single-digit millions. Freestyle co-founder Mark Borde said "Collector" targets younger males, unlike last weekend's horror release "Orphan," which skewed heavily female in fetching $12.9 million from its first frame.

Warrants for Jackson's doc call singer 'addict'

Warrants for Jackson's doc call singer 'addict'
FILE - In this July 7, 2006 file photo, Dr. Conrad Murray poses for a photo as he opens the Acres Homes Cardiovascular Center at the Tidwell Professional Building, in Houston. [Agencies]

LOS ANGELES – Authorities investigating Michael Jackson's death referred to him as an "addict" and were seeking evidence related to the powerful anesthetic propofol, according to search warrants released Thursday.

The documents show investigators have cause to believe several California Business and Professions codes had been broken, including "excessive prescribing," a misdemeanor punishable by a fine or imprisonment for up to 180 days.

Los Angeles police and federal Drug Enforcement Administration agents spent much of Tuesday at the Las Vegas home and business of Jackson's personal doctor, Conrad Murray, who is the focus of a manslaughter investigation. The raids sought evidence supporting that charge, as well as code violations, including "prescribing to an addict" and "unprofessional conduct."

The state codes cover all prescribing professionals, including doctors and dentists, and violations could lead to a revoked or suspended license, said Kimberly Kirchmeyer, deputy director of the Medical Board of California. The codes state a physician cannot prescribe drugs to anyone with a chemical dependency or who is using the drugs for non-therapeutic purposes; they define an addict as someone who continues to use a drug despite harm, shows compulsive use or has impaired control over use.

The warrants, which had been sealed when the searches were conducted, also said investigators wanted all documentation relating to the "purchase, transfer, receiving, ordering, delivery and storage of propofol."

A law enforcement official earlier told The Associated Press that on the day Jackson died Murray gave him propofol to help him sleep and that investigators are working under the theory the anesthetic caused Jackson's heart to stop. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing.

A cause of death has yet to be announced. The Los Angeles County coroner has twice said toxicology findings on Jackson were imminent but after meeting Thursday with investigators Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter announced an indefinite delay. Winter said further investigation needs to be done; he did not go into detail.

Propofol, dubbed "milk of amnesia," is commonly used for surgeries and is not meant as a sleep agent or to be given in private homes. Because of its potency, only trained anesthesia professionals are supposed to administer it and patients are to be monitored at all times.

Murray, a cardiologist, has spoken to police but not commented publicly since Jackson died June 25. His attorney, Edward Chernoff, did not comment Thursday, but has previously said the doctor did not prescribe anything that "should have" killed Jackson.

Jackson was given anesthesia for numerous medical procedures over the years and had a long history of prescription drug use.

Search warrants issued last week in Houston allowed authorities to search Murray's clinic and a storage unit. They were the first public acknowledgment that investigators consider Jackson's death a possible manslaughter and that Murray is the target of the investigation.

The Las Vegas warrants were far more detailed and authorized authorities to look for medical and other records related to Jackson or any of the apparent 19 aliases he used, including the names Omar Arnold, Josephine Baker, Paul Farance, Jack London and Michael Amir Williams Muhammad.

Among the items seized in the Vegas searches were an iPhone, copies of several computer hard drives, a CD with the name Omar Arnold on it and a binder containing invoices for medical equipment and supplies. No propofol was found.

The warrant also shows investigators are seeking correspondence from seven doctors it names. One, Dr. Allan Metzger of Los Angeles, is an internist and rheumatologist who had a close relationship with Jackson beginning in 2002 and was godfather to one of the singer's children, said his attorney, Harland Braun.

Braun said Jackson invited Metzger to his home April 18. He spent about an hour and a half with him, during which time Jackson asked about sleep medication, particularly propofol.

Metzger told him it was dangerous, could be life threatening and should not be used outside a hospital, and suggested Jackson use some other sleep medication, Braun said.

Metzger's experience echoed Cherilyn Lee, a registered nurse who gave Jackson nutritional counseling earlier this year, who said he complained of insomnia and asked her repeatedly for Diprivan, the brand-name version of propofol. Lee said she also warned him of the drug's dangers and rejected his requests.

Jackson mother gets custody, Rowe gets visits

Jackson mother gets custody, Rowe gets visits
Michael Jackson waves to supporters outside the Santa Barbara County Courthouse, June 13, 2005. [Agencies]

LOS ANGELES– Michael Jackson's mother will get custody of the late pop star's three children after reaching an agreement with his ex-wife Debbie Rowe, avoiding a custody battle only days before a court hearing on the matter.

Rowe will have visitation rights with her two biological children with Jackson -- Prince Michael, 12, and Paris, 11, under the terms of the agreement, lawyers said on Thursday.

The biological mother of Jackson's third child, Prince Michael II, 7, also known as Blanket, has never been revealed.

Jackson's mother, Katherine, 79, was granted temporary custody of the children after he died from cardiac arrest on June 25.

The "Thriller" singer had stipulated in his 2002 will that he wanted his mother to care for the children, but following his death, Rowe seemed to consider challenging Katherine Jackson's custody. A hearing on the matter was set for Monday.

"Mrs. Jackson and the family are pleased this matter is resolved and was handled in a caring, thoughtful and courteous manner by the parties and their representatives," Londell McMillan, Katherine Jackson's attorney, said in a statement.

"We were all united in our goals to do what is best for Michael's wonderful children, and both Mrs. Jackson and Debbie Rowe were on the exact same page," McMillan said.

Eric George, an attorney for Rowe, said in a statement that the agreement was a "dignified outcome."

"The sole consideration between the parties was the best interests of the children," he said.

VALUE OF ESTATE

Jackson left his estate, valued at more than $500 million in an attachment to his will, to a family trust that benefits his children, his mother and charities.

"That estate is worth, in my estimation, a couple of billion dollars," McMillan said in an interview on CBS News' "The Early Show," referring to the future value of the estate if it achieves its potential earnings.

"You hear $500 million. Don't buy it," he said.

Estimates vary widely. Several recent reports including one in the Los Angeles Times have put a net value on the estate of $200 million.

The major portion is Jackson's part ownership in music publishing company Sony/ATV, which owns old Beatles tunes and hundreds of songs from other artists and has been estimated to be worth as much as $1 billion. The singer also was said to be as much as $500 million in debt when he died.

Since his death, Jackson's songs and CDs have seen a rebirth in popularity, and there is wide speculation about future DVDs, movies and TV projects in the works that could add value to the Jackson estate.

At the hearing on Monday, lawyers for Jackson's mother and executors named in the singer's will are expected to argue over the administration of his estate.

The coroner's report on the cause of the pop star's death is still awaiting toxicology and other test results.

The toxicology report had been expected as soon as this week, but a spokesman for the Los Angeles coroner's office said on Thursday it has been delayed indefinitely.

Los Angeles police with the help of U.S. drug agents are looking into whether doctors provided for Jackson powerful prescription drugs, including the anesthetic propofol, which could have led to his death.

Despite a public memorial for the singer earlier this month, Jackson's private burial arrangements still have not been announced and his body remains at a Los Angeles mortuary.

Madonna's 'eternal' Guy love

Madonna's 'eternal' Guy love

Madonna has written a song for Guy Ritchie calling him her "eternal love".

The singer - who divorced the British film director earlier this year after almost eight years of marriage - penned a track about a couple who loved, fought and loved again, sparking speculation the pair are set to reconcile.

Madonna has even ordered Guy a special personalised rifle for his birthday in September.

A source told Britain's Grazia magazine: "The whole relationship now is just unbelievable. Not long ago, people wouldn't even dare bring up his name because it was so bad. When they did talk, all they did was scream abuse at each other down the phone.

"Madonna has met few people in her life she truly respects and one of them is Guy. Forgetting everything else, she admires his intellect and cares about what he thinks.

"No one ever expected they could go from lovers to enemies and then back to incredibly close friends."

Friends of the 'Sherlock Holmes' filmmaker have also claimed he still refers to Madonna as if they are married.

One source said: "He'll often say, 'My wife is in great shape.' "

The couple agreed to resolve their differences after Madonna's 12-year-old daughter Lourdes from a previous relationship told her mother she wanted the pair to get along.

A source said: "She sat down with her mother and told her straight out that she wanted things to be good. It was then Madonna who called Guy and they met up in London and spent hours just talking. There was no shouting, no attitude and no hostility."

The former couple - who also have sons Rocco, eight, and David, three, together - have further strengthened their bond since the singer introduced Guy to her newly-adopted daughter Mercy, four.

The source added: "They have spent time together as a family, it was all very low key. He and Madonna were laughing together, he was teasing her like he used to and the edge was gone. She was asking him a lot of advice and getting him involved in decisions."

Lefevre `stunned' Howard has her role in `Eclipse'

Lefevre `stunned' Howard has her role in `Eclipse'
FILE - In this May 14, 2009 file photo, Bryce Dallas Howard arrives at the premiere of the film 'Terminator Salvation' in Los Angeles. [Agencies]

LOS ANGELES – Bryce Dallas Howard is taking over as the villainous vampire Victoria in the third "Twilight" movie, and the actress who's played the part in the first two films says she was "stunned" and "hurt deeply" by the switch.

Rachelle Lefevre says she was unaware that Summit Entertainment, which is releasing the vampire saga, had chosen someone else to play her part in "Eclipse." Summit announced Howard as her replacement late Tuesday, saying Lefevre had scheduling conflicts that would make her unable to participate in the production.

But Lefevre said Wednesday that she was "fully committed" to returning as Victoria. She says her involvement in the drama "Barney's Version," starring Paul Giamatti and Dustin Hoffman, would only last 10 days.

"I turned down several other film opportunities and, in accordance with my contractual rights, accepted only roles that would involve very short shooting schedules," she said in a lengthy statement.

"Although the production schedule for `Eclipse' is over three months long, Summit said they had a conflict during those 10 days and would not accommodate me. Given the length of filming for `Eclipse,' never did I fathom I would lose the role over a 10-day overlap."

The news also shook up the fervent fans of the "Twilight" series: Several are circulating online petitions urging that she return, and the top-trending topic on Twitter for a while Wednedsay afternoon was "Bring Back Rachelle."

Summit did not have an immediate response to Lefevre's comments.

Though new to the "Twilight" franchise, the 28-year-old Howard is no stranger to blockbusters, having co-starred in "Spider-Man 3" and "Terminator Salvation." She also appeared in "The Village" and "Lady in the Water."

"Eclipse," based on the third book in Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" saga, is scheduled to begin shooting in Vancouver in August. Part two, "New Moon," comes out Nov. 20.

Michael Jackson 'exhilarated by death'

Michael Jackson 'exhilarated by death'

Michael Jackson "died three times" in the 18 months before he passed away.

The pop icon reportedly put his life in danger several times before his ultimate death on June 25 from a suspected cardiac arrest. It has even been claimed Michael enjoyed the sensation of having his heart re-started.

A source told National Enquirer magazine: "I know there were at least three instances in the last 18 months where Michael literally died before either doctors or bodyguards were able to bring him back.

"I've heard there were at least two instances in 2008 and both involved prescription drugs. One time they had to pump his stomach and another time do CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation).

"Once, after doctors finally managed to wake him up, Michael said he had died and gone to heaven, and it felt good.

"Michael said it was the most exhilarating experience of his life, to have seen how things looked on the other side, then come back to Earth again.

"I'm told there was another time earlier this year when he appeared to flat line. In each incident, his heart stopped."

Although the events leading up to Michael's death remain unclear, there has been intense speculation he was misusing prescription drugs at the time of his passing.

According to reports, police are focusing their investigation on the 50-year-old singer's use of the anaesthetic Propofol, which is used to put patients to sleep before surgery.

Rihanna and Brown fuel rumours

Rihanna and Chris Brown have fuelled reunion rumours after dining across the street from each other.

The couple - who were banned from meeting by a court order after Chris pleaded guilty to assaulting her last month - ate on opposite sides of New York's famous Broadway, in the city's theatre district, on Tuesday (28.07.09).

Gossip website Radar reports: "Rihanna was seen at the Cipriani Downtown Restaurant while Chris looked glum while waiting in his car after dinner, across the street at Via Dei Mille Restaurant."

Chris reached a plea bargain for attacking the Barbados-born beauty before his case went to trial.

Under the terms of the agreement, Chris is the subject of a restraining order which sees him banned from coming within 50 yards of the 'Umbrella' singer.

If he is found to have violated the terms, he might lose the plea bargain - which saw him receive five years probation and 180 days of community labour rather than any jail time - and be charged with a misdemeanour.

It has been reported that Chris will only be found to have breached the order if Rihanna complains to police.

Earlier this week, it was claimed Rihanna and Chris had stayed at Manhattan's Trump International Hotel and Tower.

A source said at the time: "The two spent the weekend at the same luxury Midtown hotel under a cloak of secrecy.

"They spent the next two days coming and going in separate chauffeured vehicles. The two appear to have taken great measures to avoid public exposure."

Zac Efron parties in Canada

Zac Efron parties in Canada

Zac Efron has enjoyed a wild night out in Vancouver.

The 'High School Musical' actor - who has been desperate to shed his clean cut image in recent months - shocked onlookers by drinking a variety of alcoholic beverages during an evening with friends at Canadian night spot Opus Bar.

A source told entertainment blog FOX411: "They were all about partying. They were downing one Bitter Cherry Salome Sour after another, until they moved on to super strong Belvedere vodka and sodas.

"They looked like they were really celebrating!"

The 21-year-old star and his pals insisted on toasting each other whenever one of them went to the bar and came back with another drink.

Zac has previously claimed he tries to keep his partying in check as he does not want it to interfere with his career.

He has said: "There's a time for celebration and I partake, sure. But, you know, it's important not to let that become too big of a distraction. The more you have access to, the harder it is to remain focused.

"I do not want to fall victim to that, it's too easy and too often done. It's out of style anyway. I think the rebellious thing to do would to actually be successful."

Avril Lavigne ready to "mellow out and sing"

Avril Lavigne ready to
Avril Lavigne performs during her "Best Damn Tour" concert in Singapore September 7, 2008. [Agencies]

LOS ANGELES - Get ready to hear a softer side of Avril Lavigne.

The Canadian pop singer tells Billboard.com that she's taking a more serious, stripped-down approach to her fourth studio album, tentatively slated for a November release on RCA.

"A lot of the songs are mainly the acoustic and my vocal," says Lavigne of the as-yet-untitled project. "It's a lot different from anything I've done before. It's not a pop-rock record. This is more about emotion and feeling."

Lavigne's husband (and Sum 41 frontman) Deryck Whibley produced eight of the album's projected 12 tracks, half of which she wrote by her herself. For the other half, she's been working with former bandmate Evan Taubenfield and songwriter/producer Butch Walker, who co-penned her 2004 single "My Happy Ending."

"I'm kind of just keeping it in the family with all of my close friends," says Lavigne, whose last album, 2007's "The Best Damn Thing," has sold 1.6 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. "I started this record off really slow, just writing songs at home on my piano. I didn't work with a ton of people this time."

The album's first single hasn't been confirmed, but the 25-year-old Lavigne says it could "possibly" be a song that emerged from the TV commercial for her new Black Star fragrance, which will go on sale in the U.S. this fall.

"It's the first song that I recorded for this record," she says. "It's kind of like a lullaby." The ethereal, piano-driven chorus originally was written just for the ad, but Lavigne has since decided to turn it into a full recording.

Another track on the album, "Darlin,'" was written when Lavigne was 15 years old and still unsigned. "It was probably the second song I (ever) wrote; I was trying to figure it all out," she recalls. "It's really special to me."

The more mature-sounding "Everybody Hurts," meanwhile, boasts weighty guitar riffs, impressive vocals and comforting lyrics like "It's okay to be afraid." Lavigne describes the track as "different -- but not different to stray away from who I am and what I am."

Lavigne is also keeping busy these days with Abbey Dawn, a juniors clothing line that sells at Kohl's stores in the U.S. "The design process has been crazy," says Lavigne, who conceptualizes all the items in the line herself. "I just love clothes and colors and patterns. I'm very visual and very hands-on." The singer will launch the line in Canada next month and hopes to bring it to Europe and Japan.

For now, though, Lavigne's primary focus remains her music. She expects to tour North America in February, and she won't be bringing any backup dancers on the road this time. Instead, she'd like to keep the vibe of her live shows similar to that of the album.

"I want to do a cool theater tour in America because I feel it will really suit this record," she says. "I'm ready to go out there and just mellow out and sing."

Review: `People' is both funny, frustrating

Review: `People' is both funny, frustrating
In this film publicity image released by Universal Pictures, Seth Rogen, left, and Aubrey Plaza are shown in a scene from, 'Funny People.' [Agencies]

LOS ANGELES – If only Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen hadn't gotten in the car.

If only they hadn't left Los Angeles, where everything in "Funny People" was going so well, and driven north to Marin County, where everything falls apart. Judd Apatow would have had his most mature, accomplished film to date.

Instead, the last hour or so meanders interminably, its tone wavering all over the place, leading to a quickie conclusion that feels pat. And that is such a letdown when you consider the strength and ambition of the material that preceded it.

"Funny People" provides the eternally adolescent Sandler with yet another opportunity to show his serious side, following substantive turns in films like "Punch-Drunk Love" and "Spanglish." But it also allows Apatow, as writer and director, to display some previously unexplored darker instincts, with a story that mixes his typically raunchy guy talk with deeper discussions about mortality. Both men rise to the challenge.

(Shot by Oscar-winning cinematographer Janusz Kaminski, Steven Spielberg's longtime collaborator, "Funny People" also looks a lot more polished than the first two films Apatow directed, "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" and "Knocked Up." You could think of it as "Sandler's List.")

But Apatow should have maintained his focus on the friendship that forms between Sandler (as superstar George Simmons) and Rogen (as aspiring stand-up Ira Wright) as well as the established comics and wannabes that surround them. Instead, he has his characters make an unnecessary road trip in search of George's long-lost love — with both George and the film losing their way.

We first see him as a rising comedian, courtesy of home movies Apatow injects of a young Sandler, his real-life roommate long before either of them made it big. Today, George has a thriving career based on his popular stage act and silly crowd-pleasers. The movies, which have titles like "Sayonara, Davey!" and require him to appear as a merman or grown-up in a baby's body, are a dead-on parody of the kinds of dreck on which Sandler has built his empire. You have to give him credit for so gleefully poking fun at his worst work.

But then George learns he has a terminal disease. Suddenly, his perspective on everything duly changes, from the stacks of scripts waiting to be read to the random women willing to jump in his bed. He still wants to work but lacks his former enthusiasm — hence his interest in Ira, who's young and hungry the way he used to be and who reminds him of a purer time. After seeing Ira do a set at an L.A. comedy club, George hires him to be his assistant, joke writer and friend — and the only person he initially tells about his illness.

Apatow handles their scenes together with surprising delicacy and zero sentimentality; Rogen, usually a bellowing bear of a screen presence, has slimmed down on the outside and nicely underplays it on the inside. The moments when he and George are harshly tooling on each other or confiding in one other are some of the film's most appealing, despite the heavy subject matter; so are the ones in which George, Ira and other comics bat around ideas and hone their craft. (Jonah Hill and Jason Schwartzman play Ira's roommates.)

Cameos from the likes of Ray Romano, Norm MacDonald, Dave Attell and Sarah Silverman as themselves add to the authenticity, but it's a scene with Eminem — someone who's experienced his own share of highs and lows — that crystallizes everything "Funny People" is about.

From there, though — not to give away too much — George drags Ira with him to chase after the one that got away: Laura, who's now married and living north of San Francisco with her rich, Australian husband (Eric Bana). Laura is played by Apatow's wife, Leslie Mann; the couple's daughters, Maude and Iris, play their girls, Mable and Ingrid.

Ostensibly, this overlong segment is meant to demonstrate the kind of traditional, satisfying life George might have had if he'd made different choices; instead, it plays like a self-indulgent showcase of Apatow's family at the expense of cohesion and momentum. And there's nothing funny about that.

"Funny People," a Universal Pictures release, is rated R for language and crude sexual humor throughout, and some sexuality. Running time: 145 minutes. Two and a half stars out of four.

Kim Kardashian, Reggie Bush split

Kim Kardashian, Reggie Bush split

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Kim Kardashian and Reggie Bush have called it quits, a rep for the reality star confirmed to Access Hollywood.

Kim, 28, began dating the 24-year-old NFL star in April 2007.

According to a source close to the former couple, the split was a “mutual decision.”

“Nobody cheated. This was just a case of conflicting schedules and their lives going in different directions,” the source told Access.

In June, Kim hit her blog to dispel rumors the two were set to walk down the aisle.

“I am not engaged!!!” she wrote at the time. “I don’t know where all this comes from!… Don’t worry guys, you will be the first to know if and when I get engaged!!… Well after I tell my family, of course!”

The couple first met at the 2007 ESPY Awards after they were introduced by mutual friend – and Reggie’s former USC teammate, fellow NFL star Matt Leinart.

“We met at the [2007] ESPY Awards,” Kim previously told AccessHollywood.com of her initial encounter with Reggie. “My stepdad, Bruce, and I were walking to our seats and Matt called my name. When I went over, he was sitting with Reggie…. Matt introduced me to the love of my life and we will always be grateful.”

John Mayer's comic convention conquests

John Mayer's comic convention conquests

John Mayer "slept" with nine science-fiction geeks at a comic book convention last weekend.

The 'Gravity' singer joked he seduced several women dressed as Japanese manga heroine Sailor Moon at Comic-Con in San Diego, California.

Writing on his Twitter account, the 31-year-old star said: "This weekend at Comic-Con I slept with nine Sailor Moons. Not an easy task when you're dressed like a Stormtrooper (sic)."

John - who has been single since he split from 'Marley and Me' star Jennifer Aniston earlier this year - also used his profile on the social networking website to make a dirty joke about a fictional race of beings popularised in the 'Star Wars' franchise.

He said: "Sandpeople travel in single file to hide their numbers. This makes them a major letdown in gangbangs (sic)."

It's not the first time the singer has bragged about his sexual conquests on the internet.

In May, he boasted he had persuaded "dozens" of women to leave red lipstick marks on his face during a night out in Los Angeles so the paparazzi would think he had several new girlfriends.

He wrote: "OK, check it. Just spent the last hour getting the reddest lipstick on me for a gag. When you see the pics of me leaving the club covered in kisses it's all a gag."

MILLINGTON, Tenn. – Justin Timberlake celebrated the opening of his renovated, environmentally friendly golf course in style on the 10th tee — by smacking his drive 291 yards.

The singer and actor smiled Saturday after the tee-off, saying "nobody's happier about this course" than he is.

Timberlake was the first to play a round at his Mirimichi golf course near Memphis, Tenn., after he spent $16 million renovating the course to make it more eco-friendly.

Timberlake drew a crowd of about 50 onlookers after starting an early round of 18 holes at 7:30 a.m.

He played Saturday with his mother, stepfather and an old family friend from Tennessee.

The Memphis native got the idea to buy the course from his dad back in 2007.

Fans get first look at star-studded "Iron Man 2"

Fans get first look at star-studded
Actor Robert Downey Jr looks out at the crowd as he leaves a question and answer session following a short presentation of Iron Man 2 to the the thousands of attendees at this years annual Comic Con conference in San Diego, California July 24, 2009. [Agencies]

SAN DIEGO- Filming for "Iron Man 2" finished just last week but thousands of fans got their first sneak peek at the star-studded new cast members this weekend at the Comic-Con convention.

Ten months before "Iron Man 2" hits movie theaters in May 2010, fans saw Robert Downey Jr.'s industrialist-turned-playboy superhero Tony Stark working alone and considering another request to join forces with Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson.

In the brief footage, Mickey Rourke (villain Ivan Vanko/Whiplash) shows off his electrical suit with dual whiplash action, Don Cheadle employs a quick quip to address the change of actors for Col. James "Rhodey" Rhodes, and a red-haired Scarlett Johansson brings Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) to life.

"Iron Man" turned Downey Jr. into an unexpected action movie hero in 2008 and made an impressive $585 million at the worldwide box office, making it one of the most successful Marvel comics film franchises.

Director Jon Favreau told reporters at Comic-Con that the team behind the sequel wanted to add characters -- although not too many -- and retain the same tone and dynamic of the first movie.

Downey Jr. added: "Tony (Stark) goes on a much more perilous journey this time. You can't tell a story better than the way it really happened, so we started to look back at the comics. We didn't take ourselves seriously, but we took the story very seriously."

Favreau said Johansson turned up for their first meeting having already dyed her blonde hair red for the part. The actress said she also learned mixed martial arts for the role and did as many of her own stunts as possible.

"We had an incredible stunt team. It was really just putting in the time training with the stunt team. If I see a movie, I like to see an actor doing their own stunts because you see their face and recognize their body movement. You want to believe it's them," Johansson said.

Cheadle was brought in to replace actor Terrence Howard in the sequel, after differences between the studio and the actor who played Rhodes in the first movie.

Fans got a look at how the change is dealt with. In a quick exchange during a Senate hearing in Washington, Rhodes surprises the courtroom and Stark says: "I didn't expect to see you here," to which Rhodes replies, "I'm here. Deal with it. Let's move on."

Favreau said that one of the goals of "Iron Man 2" is to move the story forward toward the movie "The Avengers" that is planned for 2012. He said he hoped the Marvel Studios movies would continue to cross-pollinate their superhero characters.

Asked by a fan whether he would be directing "The Avengers", Favreau was non-committal.

"I still have another year on this one to go and to get ready to make 'Thor' with Kenneth Branagh directing," replied Favreau, who added that the prep work on "Thor" is looking fantastic.

"(Producer) Kevin (Feige) and I haven't talked about that. 'Avengers' doesn't shoot until after 'Iron Man 2'," he said.

Action guinea pigs topple Potter at box office

Action guinea pigs topple Potter at box office
Actors James (L) and Oliver Phelps pose during a photocall to promote the film "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" in Madrid July 12, 2009. [Agencies]

LOS ANGELES - A trio of animated secret agent guinea pigs broke the spell of the new Harry Potter movie to take the top spot at the North American box office, according to studio estimates issued on Sunday.

"G-Force," a Disney live action and computer-generated animation family feature, earned $32.1 million in the United States and Canada, pushing "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" down to second place with $30 million in its second weekend.

The sixth movie in the boy wizard franchise dropped 61 percent from its huge opening last weekend -- a fall-off that was in line with studio expectations -- but is still on course for becoming the second biggest Potter movie so far, distributors Warner Bros said.

Internationally, "Half-Blood Prince" raked in $84.4 million in 64 countries over the weekend to take its worldwide total so far to $627.1 million.

Dan Fellman, president of domestic distribution at Warner Bros, said the earnings in North America and Canada had been hampered by the movie's small presence so far in IMAX movie houses. IMAX roll-outs will expand in the coming week.

"Our IMAX support will pop in this week and it looks like the movie is headed north of $300 million (in North America) which will be the second biggest Harry Potter of all time on the domestic side," Fellman said. The biggest movie was the first one, 2001's "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone."

Delighted Disney executives said "G-Force," which features cute talking guinea pigs as action heroes, played well to family audiences and that more than half the box office had come from 3D showings.

"We are very, very pleased with the results when you are competing with movies like 'Harry Potter' and 'The Ugly Truth,'" said Marc Zoradi, president of Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group.

Paul Dergarabedian of Hollywood.com said that "G-Force" had benefited from a "great marketing campaign and a premise that had people scratching their heads while simultaneously grabbing the family."

Romantic comedy "The Ugly Truth," starring Katherine Heigl of TV medical show "Grey's Anatomy" and British heart-throb Gerard Butler, brought in a solid $27 million to take third place -- above expectations, distributor Sony Pictures said.

Rory Bruer, president of worldwide distribution for Sony Pictures, said the movie had cost just $38 million to make and had played particularly well to women over the age of 25.

"It all paid off. The chemistry between Heigl and Butler is tremendous," Bruer said.

The weekend's other strongest new showing was horror film "Orphan" which took fourth spot at the box office with $12.7 million.

The glut of new offerings pushed 20th Century Fox's "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs" from second place to fifth. The animated movie has brought in $171.3 million domestically in four weeks.

Universal Pictures' "Bruno" tumbled another 67 percent in its third week of release with $2.7 million over the weekend, taking the total for British actor Sacha Baron Cohen's outrageous gay spoof to a modest $56.5 million.

Universal is a unit of General Electric Co's NBC Universal, and Fox is a unit of News Corp.

'G-Force' topples `Harry Potter' at box office

'G-Force' topples `Harry Potter' at box office

Valerie Hansen holds up a Guinea Pig in Walnut, Calif., Tuesday, July 21, 2009. The Disney movie 'G-Force' shows a squad of specially trained, computer-generated guinea pig spies coming to the world's rescue. After the movie comes out, though, animal activists say it will be real life guinea pigs who need rescuing. [Agencies]

LOS ANGELES – An elite squad of guinea pigs has worked its own brand of magic at the box office, taking the No. 1 spot from boy wizard Harry Potter.

The 3-D "G-Force" was the top movie at the box office this weekend, opening with $32.2 million, according to studio estimates Sunday. The Walt Disney release from producer Jerry Bruckheimer, with its mixture of live action and computer-generated animation, is a "Mission: Impossible"-style adventure. It features voiceover work from Nicolas Cage, Sam Rockwell, Tracy Morgan and Penelope Cruz as resourceful rodents.

Last week's No. 1 film, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," came in a close second with an estimated $30 million. That's a whopping 61-percent drop from its huge opening last weekend of $79.5 million.

Coming in third was another of the week's wide releases, the battle-of-the-sexes romantic comedy "The Ugly Truth," which had a $27 million opening.

The sixth installment in the Harry Potter franchise has now made $222 million total, which is $14 million ahead of where part five, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," was after 12 days in theaters in 2007. And this week, "Half-Blood Prince" will start showing on 166 IMAX screens, which the last "Harry Potter" movie did from the start.

"So we're coming in with this one (in IMAX) a little bit late, but it's going to be a great addition and it'll keep our momentum going," said Dan Fellman, Warner Bros.' head of distribution.

"G-Force" triumphed in a crowded summer marketplace with its combination of 3-D effects and the Disney and Bruckheimer brands, said Mark Zoradi, president of Disney's motion-picture group.

"You never go into a situation where you're competing against two important movies — the second weekend of 'Harry Potter' and the opening weekend of 'The Ugly Truth' — you never go in cocky," Zoradi said.

The one-two of PG-rated movies reinforces the fact that summer is prime family movie time, said Paul Dergarabedian, box-office analyst for Hollywood.com.

"This summer is all about packaging and escapism," Dergarabedian said of the strong showing for "G-Force." "People were scratching their heads and dragging their kids to go see this thing. They were watching the trailers with absolute shock going, 'Is that really happening?' But as a kid you're like, 'I gotta go see it.' This is a testament to the fact that Jerry Bruckheimer, like ('Transformers' director) Michael Bay, knows exactly what summer movie audiences want."

With $27 million, "The Ugly Truth" performed at the high end of Sony Pictures' expectations, said head of distribution Rory Bruer.

"The chemistry between Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler is a blast. It's really a lot of fun, everything we'd hoped it would be," Bruer said. "From sneak previews to word-of-mouth screenings we had on the movie, we knew people liked the movie."

Critics weren't so enamored, though: "The Ugly Truth" received just 15 percent positive reviews on the Rotten Tomatoes Web site.

"If I have a choice of deciding between what the audience's opinion is going to be versus the critics', I'll definitely go with the audience's every day, and they spoke loud and clear," Bruer said.

Also opening nationwide this weekend was another Warner Bros. release, the horror movie "Orphan," about a couple who adopts a little girl who's not nearly as sweet as she seems. It came in fourth place with $12.8 million.

Expanding in its second week of limited release, the Fox Searchlight romantic comedy "500 Days of Summer" made $1.63 million. Going from 27 screens to 85, it's grossed just over $3 million. The critical hit stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel in an out-of-order tale of boy-meets-girl.

On the other end of the cinematic spectrum, the dominant movie of the summer, "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," is now the 10th-highest grossing film of all time with just over $379 million. The Paramount sequel made $8 million this weekend, pushing it past 2003's "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King," which made just over $377 million.

Dergarabedian said movies like "Transformers," "Harry Potter" and the R-rated, surprise-hit comedy "The Hangover," which has now made over $247 million, have kept this summer's revenues right in line with 2008, when "The Dark Knight" was all the rage.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Hollywood.com. Final figures will be released Monday.

1. "G-Force," $32.2 million.

2. "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," $30 million.

3. "The Ugly Truth," $27 million.

4. "Orphan," $12.8 million.

5. "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs," $8.2 million.

6. "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," $8 million.

7. "The Hangover," $6.5 million.

8. "The Proposal," $6.4 million.

9. "Public Enemies," $4.2 million.

10. "Bruno," $2.7 million.

Taco Bell ad star Gidget the Chihuahua dies at 15

This undated picture provided by Taco Bell shows part of a Taco Bell advertisement featuring a Chihuahua professing his love for tacos. Handlers say Gidget the Chihuahua, whose Taco Bell commercials made her a star, has died. She was 15. The owner of Studio Animal Services in Castaic says Gidget suffered a massive stroke late Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at her trainer's home in Santa Clarita, Calif. and had to be euthanized.[Agencies]

LOS ANGELES – Gidget the Chihuahua, the bug-eyed, big-eared star of 1990s Taco Bell commercials who was a diva on and off the screen, has died. She was 15.

Gidget suffered a massive stroke late Tuesday night at her trainer's home in Santa Clarita and had to be euthanized, said Karin McElhatton, owner of Studio Animal Services in Castaic, which owned the dog.

Although she was hard of hearing, Gidget was otherwise in good health up to the day of her death, eating well and playing with her favorite squeaky toys at the home of trainer Sue Chipperton, McElhatton said.

"She was retired. She lived like a queen, very pampered," McElhatton said.

Gidget was found at a kennel and wasn't show quality, McElhatton said; she had an undershot jaw and huge ears.

But Gidget knew she was a star, McElhatton said.

"She was a prima donna, basically. She absolutely knew when she was on camera," McElhatton said.

In a 1997 Taco Bell television commercial, Gidget was seen as a male dog who, through the magic of special effects and a voice actor, proclaims in a richly accented voice: "Yo quiero Taco Bell" — Spanish for "I want Taco Bell."

Viewers were charmed. What was supposed to be a single ad became a campaign that ran from 1997 to 2000.

The ads made the Taco Bell mascot wildly popular, although they provoked criticism from activists who accused them of promoting Hispanic stereotypes.

While other Chihuahuas had bit parts, McElhatton said it was Gidget who got the closeups and the quips (Carlos Alazraqui was the voice).

Gidget traveled first-class, opened up the New York Stock Exchange and made an appearance at Madison Square Garden, McElhatton said.

In later years, she did other acting work, appearing in a 2002 commercial for the insurance company GEICO and in the 2003 movie "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde."

She remained the object of affection after her retirement, going on hikes and beach visits with her trainer. She aged gracefully, and liked nothing more than to snooze in the sun.

"She was like a little old lady. She'd kind of gotten smaller," McElhatton said.

Gidget will be cremated, McElhatton said. Her owners had not decided on a final disposition of her remains. Taco Bell Corp. said in a statement Gidget would be missed by many. "Our deepest sympathies go out to her owners and fans," the company said.

Sandra Bullock wants a boob job so she looks like a "bimbo".

The 'Proposal' actress has joked she is desperate to undergo cosmetic surgery to enhance her breasts so people see her as a pretty but stupid woman.

She said: "I need surgery. I'm getting some boobs. I think that's my problem. All my brains are in my butt, they're not in my chest. "I want to be the bimbo, I want to be looked at as the bimbo, purely as a sexual object. I've been working for that for a very long time."

Sandra, who filmed a naked scene alongside co-star Ryan Reynolds for 'The Proposal', admits she has to exercise regularly to keep in shape but still indulges her cravings for fatty foods.

The 44-year-old brunette beauty revealed to BBC Newsbeat: "I don't believe in denying myself anything. If I can be good during the week, then at the weekend I can eat whatever I want. "I love good food. I love pastas and cheeses and a nice glass of wine. I love good clean, hearty food. Manslaughter investigation targets Jackson doctor

Manslaughter investigation targets Jackson doctor
FILE - In this July 7, 2006 file photo, Dr. Conrad Murray poses for a photo as he opens the Acres Homes Cardiovascular Center at the Tidwell Professional Building, in Houston. Murray is the target of a manslaughter investigation into the singer's death. A search warrant filed in a Houston court Thursday July 23, 2009 allowed authorities to seek evidence of whether Dr. Conrad Murray committed manslaughter. [Agencies]

LOS ANGELES – Michael Jackson's personal doctor is the target of the manslaughter investigation into the singer's death, according to court documents filed Thursday, the day after agents seized items from the physician's Houston clinic and a rented storage unit.

A search warrant approved by a Houston judge allowed authorities to seek "property or items constituting evidence of the offense of manslaughter that tend to show that Dr. Conrad Murray committed the said criminal offense."

Murray, 51, was with Jackson when he died and has been a central character in the investigation from the outset. The surprise search of his clinic Wednesday indicated authorities were focusing on him, but the warrant language made it clear he's the target.

Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Officer Bruce Borihanh said he could confirm a search warrant was served but had no other comment. LAPD investigators have interviewed Murray twice but haven't labeled him a suspect.

Murray's lawyer, Edward Chernoff, referred queries Thursday to the statement he made a day earlier in which he confirmed a search warrant had been executed and that none of the items seized had previously been requested by authorities.

The documents filed Thursday detailed items taken when federal drug agents and Los Angeles police descended on Murray's clinic. Among them: 27 tablets of the weight loss drug phentermine, a tablet of the muscle relaxant clonazepam, a forensic image of a hard drive, rolodex business cards and e-mails.

The Jackson family has not made any public statements since the search warrant was executed.

Murray, a cardiologist, is licensed to practice in California, Texas and Nevada, and records show he has had no disciplinary actions taken against him.

He was hired as Jackson's personal physician not long before he died. He was in Jackson's rented Los Angeles mansion when the pop star was found unconscious the morning of June 25 and tried unsuccessfully to revive him.

An official determination of what killed Jackson won't be made until at least next week, when the Los Angeles County coroner expects to have a completed toxicology report.

Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said Thursday he had sought information from "seven or eight" doctors and Murray is the only one he has yet to talk to.

Winter said Chernoff had offered to speak with the coroner Friday but without Murray present.

"We don't want to talk to the attorney, we want to talk to" Murray, Winter said.

Chernoff issued a brief statement in response, saying Winter had not made any requests to interview his client.

Jackson had a long history of prescription drug use and unraveling his complicated medical history is a daunting task for investigators, who have said little publicly about what they have found so far.

Propofol, a powerful anesthetic, has emerged as an important part of the investigation. Doses of it were found in Jackson's mansion, according to a person with knowledge of the investigation who is not authorized to speak publicly.

Propofol was not among the items seized under the search warrant, which was approved Monday by Harris County District Court Judge Shawna L. Reagin. The warrant was under seal when it was executed Wednesday; its contents were revealed Thursday when a list of items seized was filed with the court.

A second search warrant, also executed Wednesday, targeted a storage locker Murray rented about five miles from the north Houston clinic. Los Angeles police officers and agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration searched the 10-by-15 foot unit, said Sue Lyon, general manager of West 18th Street Self Storage.

Lyon said she didn't know what was taken, though she did notice authorities gave two itemized sheets of paper to Murray's attorneys who were present.

"It was basically all secretive, and nobody put their nose in nobody's business," Lyon said.

Murray rented the unit April 1, according to Lyon, and while he never visited it personally, others from his clinic did six times — the last time the morning of Jackson's death.

Zac Efron's facial hair faux pas

Zac Efron's facial hair faux pas

Zac Efron used to have an "unattractive" moustache.

The 'High School Musical' actor had a disastrous experiment with facial hair when he was a teenager in a bid to look older.

He said: "In high school there were guys who were really tall, there were burly guys on the football team who looked like my dad - and then there was me, who looked like a little kid. I was a late bloomer.

"I actually rocked a pubescent moustache for a while. It was so unattractive."

Despite his heartthrob status, Zac - who is dating his 'High School Musical' co-star Vanessa Hudgens - insists he never used to be attractive.

He added to TOTP magazine: "I was not one of the cool kids. I wasn't the heartthrob of the class in any way. I was just a regular kid."

Jay-Z parties away fortune

Jay-Z parties away fortune

Jay-Z and Rihanna racked up a £7,000 bar bill during a night out.

The '99 Problems' rapper and the 'Umbrella' singer - who is signed to his record label Def Jam Recordings - partied with friends in the VIP lounge at London club Vendome, in the UK city's exclusive Chelsea district, on Tuesday night (21.07.09).

Jay-Z - who is married to 'Crazy in Love' singer Beyonce Knowles - ensured their entourages enjoyed the evening by ordering countless bottles of expensive champagne and vodka.

A source said: "They had two of the VIP booths, so all of their people could mingle together. Jay-Z ordered countless bottles of Dom Perignon champagne along with vodka for both tables and the party really gathered pace.

"Everyone was trying to get into their area to get a glimpse of them but the security was so tight, many were left standing by the roped off area trying to sneak a peak."

Rihanna, 21, partied until the early hours of Wednesday morning (22.07.09) and kept a low-profile when she left the nightspot.

The source added: "As she walked out of the VIP area she looked in high spirits. But she kept her head down as she made her way out of the club at 3am, avoiding questions from fans as to how she was doing."

Jennifer Lopez wanted bump break

Jennifer Lopez wanted bump break

Jennifer Lopez thinks life would be "perfect" if your pregnancy bump was removable.

The 39-year-old actress - who has 17-month-old twins Max and Emme with husband Marc Anthony - is currently shooting new movie 'The Back-Up Plan' in which she plays a pregnant woman, and loves being able to expand and retract her midriff girth as she pleases.

She joked: "A bunch of us who have babies, we're like, 'It would be great when you are pregnant. You could take it off five times during the pregnancy, only for a half hour. Then you have to put it back on.' That would be awesome. It would be perfect. But you can't."

Jennifer - who plays Zoe, a woman who conceives using artificial insemination only to meet her perfect partner that very day - has loved making the film because she can take her children to work with her.

She explained to US TV show 'Extra': "They've been with me almost every day on the set. I don't think they realise what I do. Once in awhile, they look at the monitor and go, 'Mama'. They're just starting to talk.

"I put Max to bed yesterday and I said, 'I love you baby. I'll see you tomorrow.' And he was like, 'I love you.' "

Officials probe Jackson's doctors in star's death

Officials probe Jackson's doctors in star's death
A Houston narcotics officer leaves Dr. Conrad Murray's Armstrong clinic where Los Angeles police and agents with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration were searching for documents Wednesday, July 22, 2009 in Houston. A lawyer for Michael Jackson's doctor, Dr. Conrad Murray, says police who searched the physician's north Houston clinic were searching for evidence of manslaughter. [Agencies]

LOS ANGELES – Investigators looking into the death of pop star Michael Jackson have seized new information to analyze as they narrow their focus in what could become a criminal investigation.

Almost one month after the King of Pop died, federal and local agents on Wednesday raided the Houston clinic of Conrad Murray, the personal physician Jackson hired in May to look after him as he prepared for a series of comeback concerts in London.

Among the items seized were files copied from an office hard drive and 21 documents. Murray's lawyer, Edward Chernoff, said authorities believed the evidence "constituted evidence of the offense of manslaughter." He did not provide further details, and police said they do not consider Murray to be a suspect.

Authorities are investigating several doctors who associated with Jackson to see if they inappropriately provided him with prescription drugs.

In the weeks since he died, rumors about what killed him have been rife. Several members of Jackson's family have said they suspect foul play. Investigators appear to be focusing on a powerful anesthetic, propofol. The drug was found in the Beverly Hills mansion Jackson was renting, according to a person with knowledge of the investigation who is not authorized to speak publicly.

Wednesday's raid of Murray's clinic in a lower-income area of north Houston was the most visible sign yet that Murray remains a central figure in the investigation.

On June 25, Murray found Jackson unconscious in a bedroom of Jackson's rented mansion, his lawyer has said, and tried to revive him and ultimately helped summon paramedics.

Police have twice interviewed Murray, including at the Los Angeles hospital where Jackson was taken and pronounced dead. The coroner's office wanted its own interview, which the lawyer agreed to; it may happen Friday without Murray present, according to Miranda Sevcik, Chernoff's spokeswoman. Chernoff would answer questions on the doctor's behalf.

"Based on Dr. Murray's minute-by-minute and item-by-item description of Michael Jackson's last days, he should not be a target of criminal charges," Chernoff had said in a statement a day before the raid. "Dr. Murray was the last doctor standing when Michael Jackson died, and it seems all the fury is directed toward him."

Murray also has a clinic in Las Vegas, which showed no signs of activity Wednesday.

Also Wednesday, Los Angeles County coroner's officials were piecing together Jackson's medical history from subpoenaed records related to nutritionist Cherilyn Lee's treatment of Jackson, according to Lee's spokeswoman, Belinda Foster.

The registered nurse is cooperating with investigators but required a subpoena because the records were protected by law, Foster said.

The coroner's office did not return calls Wednesday seeking comment.

Sienna Miller's radio rage

Sienna Miller's radio rage

Sienna Miller launched into a foul-mouthed rant after being quizzed about her love life.

The 'G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra' actress flew into a rage and told a radio host to "p**s off" when asked if she is still dating on/off lover Balthazar Getty.

During a phone interview with Australian radio station Fox FM, Sienna fumed: "You've called us scrags, b****es, knocked-up. We are not here to talk about him [Getty]. But, yes, I know him and everything is good, thank you.

"What a scoop! Congratulations! You are really, really clever!"

Radio host Adam Richard tried to apologise for upsetting the 27-year-old blonde star by saying: "I didn't mean to step on your toes."

However, Sienna refused to calm down and snapped back: "You're going there."

Last month, it was claimed Sienna had reunited with married actor Balthazar.

The 'Brothers and Sisters' actor reportedly whisked the British star off to Italy for romantic break.

Balthazar, 34, and Sienna sparked outrage when they were first linked last July.

His wife Rosetta Millington - who has four children with the billionaire actor - subsequently split from the star, but they are yet to divorce.

Police say they removed Barton from her home last Wednesday for an undisclosed medical problem. The department will not say what it was.
