"When I get out of here, I will buy you a big dinner," actress Zhou Xun says in the spy thriller The Message (Feng Sheng). In the movie her character is killed, but Huayi Brothers, the film's producer, arranged a banquet last night in Beijing for the cast and crew.
They deserve it. The film has raked in 220 million yuan ($32 million) since its premiere at the end of September. Zhou won the Best Actress award at the Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival, the equivalent of China's Oscars.
But not all the news was good. According to Southern Metropolis Weekly, fireworks in Zhou's suburban villa caused a fire in the nearby woods on the night of Oct 18. Firefighters put out the fire in half an hour.
The report implied the fire started when Zhou's boyfriend was celebrating her 35th birthday and the award.
