Right out of the box

Right out of the box

When government officer Wang Luoyuan, 39, wants to furnish his house, he goes to IKEA. When he buys a pair of earrings for his wife, Tiffany comes to his mind. If his kid needs a schoolbag, he goes to adidas.

However, 27-year-old bank clerk Luo Ruixue is different. She prefers Fengguo Space, which sells products designed by independent designers from China, to international labels.

Luo shows off her skirt bought at Fengguo Space, a 100 percent cotton, black and polka-dot creation, with Chinese characters.

"If I buy a Marc Jacobs skirt, it will cost me 1,000 yuan ($146), and someone else might have the same dress. But I got this one, designed by a college student, for just 145 yuan," Luo says, adding brands are out, independent designs are in.

Fengguo Space, a branch of Fengguo Box, in Zhongguancun, Beijing's Silicon Valley, is smartly decorated. Each shelf is divided into a lattice and designers who want to sell their trinkets rent boxes to showcase their wares. It costs from 30 to 400 yuan per month to rent a box, depending on the size.Right out of the box

At Fengguo Space, there are many classic toys such as cars and robots that have big price tags. Another range of products called Bricks features key rings made of Lego bricks. Other trinkets such as bags, cigarette boxes and stuffed animals are also on display.

Goods from local designers such as "Princess" Zhao Xi and Gao Yuan are on offer, as well as those by designers from European countries.

Xu Jianmeng, marketing manager of Box Community, says they are going to introduce independent foreign furniture names to Chinese consumers, including Microworks, Athmos, and Suck UK.

"Young Chinese people hate to be the same as each other, be it food, clothing or way of life. They don't want to have an identical IKEA style. That is why indie designs are so popular today," says Xu.

Zhao Xi, a part-time indie designer, works at an advertising company, which is the usual humdrum office job, but realizes her dream by creating items for indie stores, something she started at university.

"Before 2007, we went to some i-Mart stores to sell the things we made. Now indie designs are getting more attention. We have box shops, we have regular i-Marts, and some of the designers are beginning to make money," says Zhao, wearing a colorful necklace she made for herself.

Fengguo Box held the first i-Mart in Beijing in 2007. Though there were only 26 stands, it made more than 500,000 yuan ($73,000) in two days.

Now there are i-Marts every two months. Five months after Fengguo Box opened its first store in 2007, it had a turnover of 1.7 million yuan.

The government also wants to promote local design. Beijing Original Design Promotion Association (BODA), founded late last year, is an organization under Beijing Sci-Tech Association.

BODA recently held the Original Circle exhibition at Sanlitun on Aug 18, showcasing some 30 designers' works.

Ma Jia, president of BODA, says Chinese indie designers need more platforms to gain recognition. He says indie designers, the media, government, consumers and shops should work together to promote it.

Many indie designers who attended the exhibition have become well-known at home and abroad, including Hong Kong designer Alan Yip and design corporation Zhuozhan. Some of Beijing-based company Lococo's works won the Red Dot Award, considered the Oscars of the design industry.

Lady GaGa: Making Beautiful Music With Michael Bolton

Lady GaGa: Making Beautiful Music With Michael Bolton
Now here's a real head-scratcher.

The British edition of Marie Claire reports that "Poker Face" songbird Lady GaGa is collaborating with legendary crooner Michael Bolton for his upcoming album, One World One Love—and it was GaGa's idea to work together!

"I was taking a break from production when my manager and the label tag-teamed me on the phone about writing with a young artist named Lady GaGa who I had never heard of —but they were raving about—they said that she was a huge fan of mine and wanted to write with me," Bolton says.

The admiration quickly became mutual when Bolton met up with the Pantsless One in the studio.

"When I met her in the studio later that night, I realized she was not only about to have a big hit record but GaGa was a superstar about to launch—her energy was so high and her focus excited me," Bolton recalls. "She reminded me of a young Madonna—with more exuberance and emphasis on the art rather than the marketing."

Bolton also penned material with Ne-Yo for the album.

Can someone please tell us what is going on here?

One World One Love will be released in the UK on September 21. In the meantime, share your thoughts in the comments section: Is a Michael Bolton/Lady GaGa collaboration a recipe for disaster, or musical bliss?

Michael Jackson's kids pen goodbye notes

Michael Jackson's kids pen goodbye notes

Michael Jackson's children have written emotional goodbye letters which will be placed in his coffin.

Prince Michael I, 12, Paris, 11 and seven-year-old Prince Michael II - also known as 'Blanket' - scrawled messages including "Daddy we love you" and "Daddy we miss you" on notes that will be buried with the 'King of Pop' on Thursday (03.09.09).

The singer's brother Marlon has spoken about the letters and other details of Michael's funeral, which will be held in the family's compound at Los Angeles' Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

He claims Michael will also be buried with his trademark white glove, and has been fitted with a new shoulder-length wig. The star's face has also been painted with full stage makeup.

Marlon told Britain's Sunday Mirror newspaper: "This will be a private ceremony. His hairstylist has made his hair special and a make-up artist has gone in and fixed him up so he's ready for the big day.

"This will be Michael's final curtain call - the last show. His shell will be gone but his spirit lives on."

After the ceremony - which will be attended by just a handful of family members and friends including Aretha Franklin and Diana Ross - Michael's coffin will be encased in thick concrete to protect it from grave robbers.

CCTV cameras and alarms will also protect the body.

Michael died of a cardiac arrest in June. His body has been stored in a refrigerated morgue at the cemetery ever since.

The LA County coroner officially ruled his death homicide on Friday (28.08.09).

Marlon claims he and the rest of the Jackson family blame Michael's personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray - who is believed to have administered the powerful anaesthetic that killed the singer - for his death.

Marlon said: "Michael died and someone is to blame - and it's the doctor who was with him. Conrad Murray was the last person to be with Michael and he knows exactly what went on and he's not saying.

"I don't think anyone tried to kill Michael on purpose but something went wrong, something happened and, yes, some of my family do think it's murder.

"He had too many 'yes' men around him. I'm talking about the doctors who were around him, the people he had working for him. It's sad to say but these doctors would do anything for the money."

Man stalker Sandra Bullock

Man stalker Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock says stalking men is the best way to get a date.

The Hollywood star, whose character Mary Horowitz pursues her crush in new movie 'All About Steve', believes you need to secretly follow potential suitors to find out what they like.

She joked: "How else do you get dates? I learned that you have to stalk and then make it look very innocent. Then once you get them you sort of shred receipts and you do things that sort of cover the paper trail of your stalking. I think it's a necessary evil to sort of lure in your prey."

In 'All About Steve', Mary becomes obsessed with a man - played by Bradley Cooper - after going out on a blind date with him.

Sandra also revealed she is terrible at crosswords - unlike her film character who constructs word games for a living - but loves seeing her name appear in puzzles.

She told Parade magazine: "I can barely spell. I so admire people who just whiz through them.

"My name has been in several crosswords, so I guess that's the only thing that really connects me. I always get the clue when I'm seven across or whatever. I get very excited, 'I got that one. It's me.' "

Dita Von Teese's nipple flashing fear

Dita Von Teese's nipple flashing fear

Dita Von Teese worries about losing her nipple tassels.

The burlesque dancer uses extra-strong glue to assure her crystal-decorated breast accessories don't slip out of place and expose too much flesh.

She explained: "I use serious waterproof glue, because I'm in a martini glass. Crystals are heavy and there's a lot going on."

The 36-year-old dancer's favourite routine sees her pour water over her near-naked body from a foam olive while sitting in a giant martini glass.

She said: "I've got a shower of water going down from the olive, so I've got to have something serious. I can't afford to lose a nipple tassel during my show."

Dita - whose ex-husband is goth rocker Marilyn Manson - first decided on her chosen career after developing a love for lingerie as a teenager.

She explained: "My obsession with underwear is how I ended up becoming a burlesque performer and a pin-up model.

"I worked in a lingerie store when I was a teenager. I wanted to know the history of lingerie, so I started looking at 30s and 40s lingerie and that's how I discovered the pin-ups from that era. I wanted to be photographed like a pin-up.

"I started working in a strip club at the same time as working in the lingerie store, and I thought this was like another opportunity for me to wear my lingerie, and have fun playing dress-up."

International movie star Jet Li, who has dedicated most of his time to charity work since last year, will take a major role in the film "Ocean Paradise", according to the Chinese Web portal Sina.com.

Set in an aquarium, the film tells a simple story between a father and his autistic son. Jet Li plays the father and rising Chinese actor Wen Zhang is "his son".

"I haven't got a role as a father for long," said Jet Li at a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday.

"Last time my son was a kid, and this time it is Wen Zhang...I must have become a father at a very young age," he joked.

"I met some autistic children when I was doing charity work in recent years. When I read the script, I cried," Jet Li said, "I hope to express gratitude to all the parents in the world through the film."

Taiwan actress Kwai Lun-mei will star in the film as a clown who performs in the aquarium and meets the father and son. "I have been practicing juggling since the day I met the director," said Kwai.

The debut project of screenwriter-turned-director Xue Xiao-lu is slated for release in 2010.

Death Cab For Cutie scores lead "New Moon" single

NEW YORK - Death Cab For Cutie has scored the lead-single spot on the soundtrack for "New Moon," the upcoming second installment of the "Twilight" vampire series.

"Meet Me On the Equinox," a song written specifically for the movie by the Grammy-nominated indie rock band, will be unveiled September 13 on MTV's Web site during the cable channel's Video Music Awards broadcast. The entire soundtrack for "New Moon" is set for release on October 20 on Chop Shop/Atlantic Records. The film comes out on November 20.

While no other artists are yet confirmed, industry rumors have the sound headed in a more indie-centric direction than the first "Twilight," with Radiohead's Thom Yorke, singer/songwriter Bon Iver, and the rock bands Grizzly Bear and Muse all in the running.

All of the songs will be exclusive to the film, either written specifically for the movie or never available anywhere else.

The original "Twilight" soundtrack, boasting tracks from Muse, Paramore, Mute Math, Collective Soul and Linkin Park, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 last November and went on to sell 2.2 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It logged 20 weeks in the top 10 -- the longest run for a theatrical film soundtrack since 1998, when both "Titanic" and "City of Angels" also managed 20 weeks. The first single, Paramore's "Decode," reached No. 33 on the Hot 100.

Death Cab For Cutie's most recent album, 2008's chart-topping "Narrow Stairs," has sold 538,000 copies to date.

The 'Taken' actor says he and his sons Micheal, 14, and Daniel, 12, are still struggling to cope with the sudden death of Natasha Richardson in March.

The 57-year-old star said: "We're doing good. We are still getting extraordinary condolence letters from American people. That's deeply, deeply touching."

The outpouring of sympathy from the US public has even inspired Liam to become an American citizen, more than 20 years after he moved to the country.

He explained to US TV show 'Good Morning America': "That is partly the reason that I have recently become an American citizen. I was born in Northern Ireland but America has been very, very good to me.

"I am still a proud Irishman, but I have become an American citizen, and am very proud of that."

The interview was the first time Liam has spoken in public since Natasha died of a brain injury after a skiing accident.

Kristen Stewart & Taylor Lautner on their ‘New Moon’ romance

Kristen Stewart & Taylor Lautner on their ‘New Moon’ romance

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner are sharing new “New Moon” insights with MTV, including details about their love triangle storyline, new scene secrets, and what Kristen had to say that almost “killed” her.

In November, fans will finally get to see Bella’s long-awaited relationship with Jacob Black emerge onscreen in “New Moon.”

“It’s such a different relationship; it’s like entirely original,” Kristen said. “They’re light; they actually have fun with each other. Edward and Bella are always so strange, you know?

In the second film of “The Twilight Saga,” Kristen’s character delves into a deep depression when Edward leaves her.

“Only [Jacob] can bring her out of that rut. Like, she literally is going to die; she’s going to stop eating and be done. And the only thing that brings her out of it is this lightness [he] brings,” she continued.

And, of course, Taylor’s character, Jacob Black, undergoes quite a transformation himself in the movie – changing into a werewolf.

“Jacob’s thing is he actually can transform in midair,” Taylor tells MTV. “So I got to do these really cool stunts where I got to actually run and then they’d hook me up on wires and I’d jump up in the air and then I’d come to a jolting stop and have to hang there for a bit. That’s what you saw in the trailer, actually. That was a lot of fun. I get to do a lot of cool stunts in this one.”

Out of all the movies in Stephenie Meyer’s series, “New Moon” intimidated Kristen the most.

“I think it’s the one book in the series that I was intimidated by — in a good way,” she explained. “That’s the best feeling to start a movie with. But probably, my favorite line in the book is when I have to say to [Jacob], ‘It’s him; it’s always been him!’ Like, I have to say that. Yeah, it killed me, it killed me.

“Yeah, and just like everything in our movie, it’s such a heightened version of reality,” she continued. “It’s like, people don’t just break up [in “The Twilight Saga”] — they break up and it literally kills you. It’s not like you just say, ‘Oh, I’m really depressed and crying.’ Everything is supposed to be a fantasy version of that. So I always had a really hard time figuring out, ‘Am I doing enough? Do I look like I’m going to die?’”

Meanwhile, Taylor’s favorite scene in “New Moon” is where he gets to put his foot down (or should we say, paw).

“My favorite [scene] was — well, we call it the breakup scene — but it’s the scene right after she sees me shirtless and I’ve cut off my hair, all different for the first time. I have to tell her that we can’t be friends anymore,” he said.

“He attempts to break up with me,” Kristen adds, “but it doesn’t work out.”

Robin Williams accidental star of new indie comedy

Actor Robin Williams, star of the film "World's Greatest Dad", poses at the film's premiere in Los Angeles, California August 13, 2009. [Agencies]

LOS ANGELES - Yes, you want to have a great screenplay and a talented director, but no project ever gets made until a star's attached.

You simply can't make a movie without somebody to play the lead and having a star is going to help if you're looking for financing or distribution.

Case in point: "World's Greatest Dad," which opened Friday in New York to a modest $10,300 and comes to California on August 28. Written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait, it's a thoughtful but outrageous comedy starring Robin Williams as a troubled high school poetry teacher and single parent.

After the accidental death of his insufferably nasty teenage son (Daryl Sabara from "Spy Kids") he suddenly finds himself with the fame and fortune he's always craved. Only question: Can he live with knowing how it came about?

Although the role fits Williams like a glove, it wasn't written with him in mind. In fact, Goldthwait told me, he didn't even plan on asking him to read it.

"Robin and I are old friends and he really liked 'Sleeping Dogs Lie,'" he explained, referring to his 2006 drama that also screened at Sundance. "I really wasn't trying to hit him up to be in the movie."

So what happened? "I was at dinner with him and another friend and I was telling him the new story and he was like, 'Well, can I read it?'"

Moreover, Goldthwait added, "I really wouldn't have written the movie for Robin as a poetry teacher if I had him in mind because I think he covered that pretty well already in 'Dead Poets Society.' So I was really shocked when he wanted to be in it."

On the other hand, poetry be dammed -- this was such a good fit for these two friends. "I think the character is a little bit based on life lessons that Robin and I had to learn as adult men."

Williams (to Goldthwait about a week into production): "Oh, I get it. I'm playing you and me."

The payoff: "He said it's the most comfortable he's ever felt on a set, which I believe is true because he and I are friends. It wasn't like we would do a scene where you would go, 'Okay, we'll do one. And now we'll do one where you ad lib.' We would keep trying different things, but it was very collaborative."

Goldthwait wrote "Dad" about two years ago. To write he just goes off to a hotel and works around the clock. "I wrote this one in about five days. My detractors would probably say I should spend another day or two on it!"

Attaching Williams definitely accelerated getting "Dad" made. He and Goldthwait wanted to be sure they did the film with "the right people" and avoided the "temptation to make it a zany comedy."

What they had in mind from the start was that the film "wasn't going to try to exploit Robin's name" and wouldn't be marketed as "a comedy with a very silly trailer. We wanted to make sure people kind of got the humor of it."

"It was the folks at Darko (Entertainment) who financed it," he said. A company founder, Richard Kelly, directed "Donnie Darko" and is a producer of "Dad."

Magnolia Pictures got involved after seeing "Dad" at Sundance and here, too, Goldthwait found himself working with a friend: "Eamonn Bowles, who runs Magnolia, is actually an old friend of mine because he hangs out in a bar that my friend runs in New York. Eamonn's always been very supportive of what we're doing."

Asked what "Dad's" budget was, Goldthwait replied, "I don't know if Magnolia would be too happy with answering that. My guess is it probably would be about two days of shooting on "Night at the Museum" (in which Williams played Teddy Roosevelt)."

Shooting got under way about a year ago for five weeks, a lot less time than Williams is used to.

Williams (at the time): "Is this going to be eight or nine weeks?"

Goldthwait (laughing): "I guess if I were doing 'Lawrence of Arabia' yeah, but it's about four or five weeks."

They shot in the Seattle area, but not only for the tax benefits.

Acknowledging that "this sounds really pretentious," Goldthwait said he's a fan of "Harold and Maude" with its big pine trees. Even though he knows it was shot in northern California, thinking about those trees subconsciously prompted him to want to film in the northwest.

As for casting Williams' difficult son Kyle, Goldthwait said, "Daryl came in and was supposed to audition for the role of Andrew, the sweet boy," who's Kyle's only friend. "He just lied to me and told me he was there for Kyle."

Despite liking Sabara's audition, Goldthwait wasn't sure about hiring him, worrying that he might really be "a bad kid because he stayed in character."

Calling around to check him out, he laughed, "I heard people going, 'Daryl? He's a really nice guy. What are you talking about?' As much as I wanted someone to do a good job on the role, I didn't want to hang out with someone who really was like Kyle."

Nick Jonas says he dreams of being president

Nick Jonas says he dreams of being president
Pop star Nick Jonas speaks about his journey with diabetes at the National Press Club in Washington August 24, 2009. Jonas was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes almost four years ago and has used his high profile to raise awareness of the disease and motivate young people like him to properly manage their condition. [Agencies]

WASHINGTON- Teen pop star Nick Jonas, taking a break from touring with his brothers to raise awareness of juvenile diabetes, said he dreams about being U.S. president and may study political science in college.

The 16-year-old singer, songwriter and member of pop trio the Jonas Bros, spoke on Monday to a sold-out audience at the National Press Club, a venue often reserved for presidents, kings and chief executives but for Jonas had many seats occupied by teenage and pre-teen girls.

Jonas talked about raising awareness and funding for juvenile diabetes, a disease he was diagnosed with in 2005.

Asked about recent trips to Washington, the youngest of the Jonas Bros told the crowd "I've always had this dream of becoming president one day." He said it was "very cool" and "such an honor" to visit the White House earlier this year.

The brothers made a surprise visit to President Barack Obama's daughters in January, and Nick Jonas met Obama in June as part of his diabetes efforts.

In an interview with Reuters, Jonas said his talk of wanting to be president was not entirely a tease. "As much as I joke about it and kind of say it to get a laugh, it is somewhat serious. I don't know if it will happen," he said.

If he goes to college, "I'd probably study English and then political science because I'm interested in it," he said. At the moment, he's touring with his band and will start shooting for TV show "Camp Rock 2" with his brothers in September.

Jonas told the press club audience he has learned to manage his diabetes while keeping a busy touring schedule but had adjusted his diet to help regulate blood sugar.

A song he wrote about diabetes includes a line saying "You don't know what you got 'til it's gone," and an audience member asked Jonas what he was referring to.

"Probably chocolate cake," he joked.

Jonas said he still eats his favorite foods but closely monitors his diet. There have been "one or two moments" during concerts when he asked his brothers to talk a bit longer on stage while he stepped away to check his sugar levels. He wears a diabetic insulin pump on his lower back while performs.

In response to questions, Jonas said he does not currently have a girlfriend and would consider dating a fan.

"I didn't know I was going to get in a suit today and have to talk about that kind of stuff," he said with a smile.

'Bad looking' star Penelope Cruz

'Bad looking' star Penelope Cruz

Penelope Cruz doesn't care about her looks.

The 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona' star - who won the Best Supporting Actress gong for the Woody Allen comedy - is dedicated to her art and doesn't care what she looks like on screen if an unattractive appearance is crucial to her character.

Penelope - who is considered one of the world's most beautiful women - said: "I am never concerned if I have to look bad. I don't care if I look good. You do whatever is necessary to give the character what it needs. It's important not to be selfish.

"You get used to looking at yourself. I make sure I am a piece of clay and give whatever that character needs inside and outside. I have a physique that can change and transform."

However, the 35-year-old beauty admits she is frustrated with Hollywood's obsession with youth.

She added to Britain's The Times newspaper: "You always end up reading stories about actresses who say they were the ugly duckling in school. I think we have had enough of these stories.

"I would probably say the same. We all feel that about ourselves, developing, becoming a woman. But if I read another story about another actress complaining abut the way she looked at school... please not one again!"

Venezuelan wins sixth Miss Universe crown

Venezuelan wins sixth Miss Universe crown
Miss Venezuela Stefania Fernandez celebrates onstage after winning the Miss Universe 2009 annual pageant at Atlantis on Paradise Island in the Bahamas August 23, 2009. [Agencies]

NASSAU - Venezuelan Stefania Fernandez, an 18-year-old brunette, won the Miss Universe 2009 title on Sunday, giving her South American country its second consecutive win and its sixth title in the beauty pageant.

The svelte Venezuelan model defeated favorites from Australia and Dominican Republic to became the 58th winner of the crown in a show broadcast live around the world from the Atlantis, Paradise Island resort in the Bahamas.

The first runner-up was Miss Dominican Republic, Ada Aimee de la Cruz, while Miss Kosovo, Gona Dragusha, was second runner-up.

Fernandez received the crown from fellow Venezuelan Dayana Mendoza, who won the 2008 Miss Universe contest held in Vietnam's resort city of Nha Trang.

Overcome with excitement as the two Venezuelan beauties embraced, Mendoza initially fumbled and dropped the jewel-studded crown before placing it on Fernandez' head.

It was the first time that a contestant from the same country won the title for a second year running.

Oil producer Venezuela is famous for its beauty queens and has accumulated more international beauty pageant titles than any other country. The South American nation had produced five previous Miss Universe winners in 1979, 1981, 1986, 1996 and 2008 and has also won the Miss World contest five times.

Only the United States has won more Miss Universe titles with 7.

Fernandez was selected out of five finalists chosen from a total field of 83 contestants. The other five finalists came from Dominican Republic, Kosovo, Australia and Puerto Rico.

In the deciding questions that preceded the announcement of the winner, Fernandez was asked by a judge what obstacles faced women seeking to become leaders of business corporations.

"We've already reached the same level as men," she replied confidently, speaking through an interpreter.

Before her, 21-year-old Australian model Rachael Finch, who had been widely favored to win the crown, defended the swimsuit parade of the pageant, which has sometimes been criticized by critics of beauty contests.

"I think our bodies are a beautiful part of a women and we should definitely show them to the world," Finch said.

Government officials in the Bahamas, a scattered group of islands and keys southeast of the United States, were hoping that hosting the 2009 Miss Universe pageant would provide a much needed short-term boost to the islands' economy and tourism industry.

Bahamas, like other Caribbean states, has been badly hit by the global economic recession which has reduced visitor arrivals and investment. Bahamas' unemployment rate has nearly doubled in the last year to just over 14 percent in May.

The annual Miss Universe pageant -- which tries to present itself as something more meaningful than a swimwear parade -- was first held in Long Beach, California, in 1952.

The event was taken over in 1996 by U.S. real estate mogul Donald Trump.

A source said: "Daniel's been looking at lots of scripts trying to decide what he'd like to direct. But he's now focusing on a story about a London gangster. What he really wants to do is blow away people's preconceptions of him. He's not just a boy wizard."

The title and script of the proposed project is not yet known but it is thought it will be in the style of Guy Ritchie's gangster movie 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels'.

Although he is keen to become a director, Daniel doesn't want to helm anything on the scale of the 'Harry Potter' movies.

He previously said: "I think I'd like to start with something less ambitious! Short films rather than a big $280 million movie. I don't think that'd be a good place to start.

"I've learnt a lot about certain things from the 'Harry Potter' films but you also learn through your own experience. I'd say the thing I've learnt most of all from watching directors is how to direct actors. But in terms of the technical side of things I'm still pretty clueless."

Courteney Cox-Arquette's horror romance

Courteney Cox-Arquette's horror romance

Courteney Cox-Arquette can't wait to start shooting 'Scream 4' - because it will be romantic.

The actress met her husband David Arquette on the set of the original 'Scream' movie in 1996, and thinks the horror movie will bring out the pair's loving nature.

She said: "I'm very excited. It will be fun. David and I are going to be right back on the set where we first met. It's going to be so exciting for us in many ways."

Courteney's character, TV reporter Gale Weathers, will have a child with Deputy Dewey Riley - played by David - in the film, but the former 'Friends' star will not be bringing the couple's actual daughter, five-year-old Coco, on set.

The 45-year-old beauty added: "I wouldn't do that to her. It's a horror film after all."

Robert Pattinson wants model lover

Robert Pattinson wants model lover

Robert Pattinson can't understand why he isn't dating a model.

The 23-year-old 'Twilight' actor expected to attract more interest from the opposite sex when he shot to stardom playing vampire Edward Cullen in the first film of the hit vampire franchise.

He said: "I don't have a girlfriend. I don't know why. You always think you're going to get more girls after you've made a movie and it never happens.

"You sit there and you're like, 'I'm a big movie star and I want to go out with some models'. But I don't know why that doesn't happen."

Although Robert is unhappy with his single status, he would never act on any of the female attention he does receive - because it is from people either too young or too old for him.

He explained: "Most of the girls are all pretty young so it's just kind of funny. But then you get the 'Twilight Mums' who love you like mums! And you can take that too far. I mean, it could be 'Edward breaks up Twilight family'.

"It's especially different in Los Angeles. Most of the women there are actresses and by default that makes them a little bit nuts - not that that's a bad thing."

Robert's first acting role was as Hogwarts tri-wizard champion Cedric Diggory in 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire' aged 18, and he was preparing to embark on a very different career path before he landed the part.

He explained to Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "I was going to do the conventional thing and go to university to study International Relations.

"I wanted to be a politician but 'Harry Potter' made that decision for me."

Ricky Martin Twitters sons

Ricky Martin Twitters sons

Ricky Martin has posted a touching photo of his twin sons on Twitter.

The 'Livin' La Vida Loca' singer celebrated Valentino and Matteo - his children through an unknown surrogate mother - recently turning one with a day at the beach and shared a series of intimate family snaps with his fans.

In one picture, the tanned star - clad just in swimming shorts - smiles into the camera, clutching a tot in each arm.

In another, he is seen building sand castles with the boys, and he also posted individual pictures of the children riding their toy trucks.

Ricky, 37, is loving fatherhood and insists he is raising the children single-handedly.

He has previously said: "I don't have a nanny. I'm doing this on my own because I don't want to miss a moment. I'm the one who changes the diapers, the one that feeds them, the one that bathes them, the one that puts them to sleep.

"Valentino loves to sleep. I call him 'Mr. Peace and Love' because he's so chilled and serene. Matteo is more alert and active."

Jackson brother Tito plans tribute shows in UK

Jackson brother Tito plans tribute shows in UK

Michael Jackson, followed by his brother Tito (L), exits the Santa Barbara County Courthouse after the eighth day in his child molestation trial in Santa Maria, March 9, 2005.[Agencies]

Tito Jackson will play a series of concerts in Britain this year as a tribute to younger brother Michael, the "king of pop" who died suddenly in June.

Tito, a member of The Jackson 5 along with Michael and their brothers Jermaine, Jackie and Marlon, will join Gladys Knight on what is being billed as her farewell British tour called "Midnight Train to Love."

According to a statement from the organizers, Tito will appear with his 14-piece band The Funk Brothers to perform hits written by Michael and The Jackson 5 as well as songs from his forthcoming album due for release later in the year.

"The UK was a very special place to my brother Michael and I'm so excited to be able to pay my respects to his fans there," Tito said. "To be able to do this whilst supporting our dear friend Gladys is a complete blessing."

He added that Knight, who is touring Britain with her Las Vegas show, introduced the Jackson brothers to Motown founder Berry Gordy, a partnership which helped the band become one of the biggest pop acts of the 1970s.

Knight's tour kicks off in Manchester on October 6 and will visit seven cities including London, Liverpool and Cardiff.

Tito's tribute gigs, at which he said he would be joined by other members of the Jackson family, will go some way to compensating British fans who had expected London to host a star-studded tribute concert for Jackson.

The star died of cardiac arrest on June 25 while preparing for a run of 50 concerts at London's O2 Arena, his planned comeback after years of living as a virtual recluse.

A major tribute is instead being planned at Vienna's Schoenbrunn Palace on September 26 under the stewardship of Jackson's brother Jermaine.

Organizers said tickets for the Vienna event go on sale from 1500 GMT on Thursday via the website www.tribute2009.com, even though the lineup has yet to be announced.

A spokeswoman for the concert said Jermaine Jackson was due in Vienna in the next nine days to reveal who would be performing.

LOS ANGELES – A court official says a woman found guilty of snooping at Britney Spears' house has been sentenced to three years of probation and 240 hours of community service.

Los Angeles Superior Court spokeswoman Patricia Kelly says a judge in Malibu, California found Miranda Tozier-Robbins guilty of peeping into Spears' home in Calabasas, California.

Kelly says Tozier-Robbins also was ordered Thursday to stay away from Spears and her home.

The woman was arrested in April after deputies found her wearing camouflage, carrying camera equipment and peering into the windows of Spears' home.

Tozier-Robbins said afterward that she was working on a documentary on paparazzi tactics and might have sold any footage she got of the pop singer, who wasn't home at the time.

Heidi Klum reaches kid limit

Heidi Klum reaches kid limit

Heidi Klum won't have any more children because four are "a lot of work".

The 36-year-old supermodel - who is expecting her fourth child together with singer husband Seal - says they will not extend their brood again because they are now "outnumbered" by their children.

She laughed: "We're outnumbered. Four is perfect. Three is a lot. But four? It's a lot of work. We're hands-on, and we feel like this is what we can handle."

The German beauty admits they feel under pressure to choose the perfect name for their unborn baby.

She said: "Because we know it's going to be our last baby, it's way harder. We've never had this back and forth before. Before it was like, 'This is the name and that's that.' We're going to wait until we see the baby and hopefully the light bulb will come on and then it'll be like, ding-ding-ding!"

The 'Project Runway' host admitted her glamorous lifestyle was pushed aside when she became a mother because her three children - daughter Leni, five, and sons Henry, three, and two-year-old Johan - have "taken over" the family home.

She explained to the USA Today newspaper: "They have taken over already. I'm not someone who is like, 'OK, this is a museum, and you can't sit here and you can't touch this and everything has to be put in its place.' They live there as much as we do.

"You come into our house, and there is a giant elephant and lion to welcome you. We have those big stuffed animals, and we have toys and things everywhere.

"Someone always has to be the captain of the ship. I'm definitely the organiser of who is doing what. What are we eating, where are we going, what's the plan for the day, making sure everything runs smoothly. I would have been a very good event planner. Or a personal assistant!"

Leona Lewis song leaked

Leona Lewis song leaked

Leona Lewis' new single has been leaked onto the internet. Music mogul Simon Cowell has alerted police after computers belonging to his record company Syco - part of Sony BMG - were hacked into, and an early version of the British singer's hotly-anticipated collaboration with Justin Timberlake appeared online.

The single, called 'Don't Let Me Down', was being considered as the first release from Leona's second album - a follow-up to her 2007 smash hit 'Spirit'.

A record company representative said: "Syco are working alongside the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, the British Phonographic Industry, the police and investigators in this and they are making fast progress. "We will certainly look to bring charges against those who are responsible. We cannot give any more details at this stage for operational seasons."

The as-yet untitled LP - which is expected to include collaborations with Ne-Yo, will.i.am and Jay-Z - is due for release this November.

The news comes just weeks after fellow 'X Factor' winner Alexandra Burke fell victim to online hackers. Unfinished tracks from her forthcoming debut album were leaked onto websites and illegal file-sharing websites which claimed they were completed.

Could Zac Efron’s next role be as publicist?

Could Zac Efron’s next role be as publicist?

BURBANK, Calif. -- Zac Efron reportedly could be spinning gossip rather than basketballs, for his next character on the big screen.

According to Marc Malkin, Zac is considering playing the lead role in the big screen adaptation of “Spin,” a new novel from first-time fiction author Robert Rave. The novel is due out August 18.

While Marc reports that no deals are in place, he claims that Zac would play the central role of Taylor Green, a recent midwestern college grad who ends up working for one of the most despised publicists in New York City – the fictional Jennifer Weinstein. The young man literally stumbles into the job, by sneaking his way into one of Jen’s trendy downtown restaurant openings.

But the swag, “comes at a price, and Taylor struggles to balance his own definition of sanity with that of Jennie’s drug-fueled, high-intensity world,” according to the book’s description.

Zac is currently in production on, “The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud.”

Access reached out to Zac’s rep for comment, but has not yet heard back as of publishing this article.

Thor, Hulk cameo in 'Iron Man 2'?

Thor, Hulk cameo in 'Iron Man 2'?

Iron Man 2 star Don Cheadle has fuelled rumours that Marvel superheroes Thor and the Hulk will make cameo appearances in the upcoming sequel.

Speaking to MTV News, the actor - who plays colonel James Rhodes in the film - joked that the characters will appear after the end credits, working in a diner.

"Thor and Hulk both make an appearance in this film. They work at a diner," he said. "You heard it hear first. Thor is actually in the movie. He eats Tony Stark. He consumes him into his God-like belly and spews him into the world. He turns into stars actually.

"It's a strange twist. I don't know that they're going to stay with it. It may not make it to the final cut, but it was cool to see filmed."

Although Cheadle's remarks were made in jest, they support previous speculation that the Thunder God will be referenced in the update as a means of garnering anticipation for 2011's Thor movie.

Colonel James Rhodes, who was portrayed by Terrence Howard in the original Iron Man, will don his own suit of weaponised armour in the sequel, becoming the hero War Machine.

Cameron Diaz dating Sex-y hunk?

Cameron Diaz is reportedly dating Jason Lewis. The 'My Sister's Keeper' actress attracted attention with her flirty and affectionate behaviour towards the 'Sex and the City' actor during a recent meal together at a sushi restaurant in Venice Beach.

An onlooker said: "Cameron and Jason were sitting in the corner of Shima totally wrapped up in one another. They couldn't stop touching each other. And we couldn't stop looking."

The couple have reportedly been friends for several years, but it is only in recent weeks that Cameron - who has been romantically linked with Maroon 5 star Adam Levine and actors Jude Law and Leonardo DiCaprio since splitting from British model Paul Sculfor in May - and Jason have started a relationship.

The source added to Grazia magazine: "They've always got along, but now realise just how much they have in common. "Jason is exactly Cameron's type. She's attracted to athletic types and they're both passionate about the environment."

Like Paul, Jason has previously dated Jennifer Aniston - who was in a relationship with singer John Mayer for several months after he split from Cameron.

Hayden Panettiere gets "buck-naked" with her best friend.

The actress - who has previously dated her 'Heroes' co-star Milo Ventimiglia and British TV presenter Steve Jones - wanders around her home in the nude and is often caught by her roommate.

She said: "The last person to see me naked was my stylist. But it's usually my roommate, who is my best friend - she sees me buck-naked all the time. She walks in and I'm like, 'Look, I'm naked! Naked girl!' "I've had so many embarrassing moments. You name it, I've done it. I'm always falling on my face!" Although she is content with her body, Hayden admits she can be jealous of other people and it is one of her worst features.

The 19-year-old beauty explained: "I hate it whenever I feel envy or jealous in any respect. It's such a terrible feeling, and such a silly thing to feel." The teenage starlet - who is currently believed to be single - recently admitted she is most attracted to confident men who can cope with her celebrity status.

She explained: "I like guys who are confident but not cocky. There is a type of confidence that you know isn't fake or put on because that person is secure in themselves. I find that very attractive and sexy. "It's important that someone can handle the type of life I lead too, which is all about cameras and people making stories up about you. That can make people feel both angry and insecure, which can ruin a relationship."

Finch 'favourite to win Miss Universe'

Finch 'favourite to win Miss Universe'

Rachael Finch has apparently tipped polls to become the favourite to win the Miss Universe competition.

The 20-year-old Australian model, who will compete in the final of the beauty pageant in the Bahamas on August 23, has said that she cannot pick who will be her biggest competition on the night.

Finch told the Herald Sun: "Any one of these women could easily walk away with the title."

Sportingbet Australia has Finch sitting at equal favourite with Miss Mexico Karla Carrillo. She is also rating higher at the same stage of the judging process than 2004 Aussie champion Jennifer Hawkins.

Finch's roommate at the contest, Miss USA Kristen Dalton, is currently in seventh place with betting shops. Bookies say that Miss Great Britain, Clair Cooper, stands little chance of winning the title.

On beauty websites, Finch has been consistently rated in the top ten by industry experts.

Mike Tyson says in denial over daughter's death

Mike Tyson says in denial over daughter's death
Former world heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson attends a news conference for the documentary film "Tyson" by U.S. director James Toback at the 61st Cann[Agencies]es Film Festival May 17, 2008.

LOS ANGELES- Heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson says he still has no idea how to handle the accidental death in May of his 4 year-old daughter, calling it a "dark moment in my life."

But in his first public comments about his daughter's death, Tyson told celebrity TV news show "Entertainment Tonight" that his new career as an actor was helping him. He is appearing as a guest star in the upcoming Fox comedy "Brothers".

"I really was beating myself up over my daughter. I was staying in the house, depressed; it was a dark moment in my life. (Acting) keeps me functioning as a healthy human being," he said in the interview broadcast on Thursday.

Tyson's daughter Exodus died in May after choking on a cord attached to a treadmill at her mother's Arizona home. She was one of six children Tyson has had with different girlfriends.

"I am working with dealing with it. I have spoken to a lot of people. I have become a member of an exclusive club no one wants to join," Tyson said.

"I have been told the pain never stops but you get over it. I am going through a process, trying to heal. I am in denial, because I don't know how to handle it. I don't know what to do or say. I appreciate everybody who supported me."

Shortly after the death of Exodus, Tyson, 43, married his current girlfriend, Lakiha Spicer, in Las Vegas. It was his third marriage.

Tyson retired from boxing in 2005 after a career marked by controversy. He was the subject of a documentary film "Tyson" earlier this year and had a cameo role playing himself in the summer comedy "The Hangover".

Writer McQuarrie tapped for "Wolverine" sequel

Australian actor Hugh Jackman signs autographs before the film's premiere at The National Auditory in Mexico City in this May 26, 2009 file photo. [Agencies]

LOS ANGELES – Christopher McQuarrie has signed on to write the script for the "Wolverine" sequel, in which Hugh Jackman will return as the Marvel Comics character, a mutant with healing powers and a skeleton laced with the indestructible metal known as adamantium.

The 20th Century Fox movie's story line will take its cue from the early 1980s Chris Claremont/Frank Miller miniseries, which is set in Japan and features Wolverine dealing with ninjas as he struggles to decide whether to follow his animal killer instincts or live under a samurai's code of honor and respect.

The studio put a sequel in development after "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" carved up almost $180 million at the domestic box office and $363 million worldwide.

The sequel's story line was hinted at in one of the movie's codas after the credits. (The other teased a spin-off based on Deadpool, the character played by Ryan Reynolds.)

McQuarrie is not unfamiliar with the character. The screenwriter, who won an Oscar for "The Usual Suspects," reteamed with that film's director, Bryan Singer, to write "X-Men." McQuarrie could have received a credit, but he voluntarily took his name off the movie when the final version was more in line with David Hayter's script than his.

Latest 'Big Brother' houseguest dropped
In this image released by CBS, Jessie Godderz, 22, a bodybuilder is one of the 13 houseguests competing this summer in 'Big Brother 10,' the 10th installment of the CBS reality series premiering Sunday, July 13 at 8:00 p.m. EDT. [Agencies]

LOS ANGELES – The bodybuilder has no more weight in the "Big Brother" house.

Jessie Godderz, the surly 23-year-old bodybuilder from Huntington Beach, Calif., was voted off the voyeuristic CBS reality show after he was spontaneously nominated for eviction by Jeff Schroeder, the charming 31-year-old advertising salesman who was secretly voted by viewers to overthrow this week's competition and put up two contestants for dismissal.

"It was the best move for him," Godderz said after his ouster.

With the special one-time-only power of "coup d'etat," Schroeder chose to save the two nominated houseguests — makeup artist Lydia Tavera and mixed martial arts fighter Russell Kairouz — and put up his rivals: recent college graduate Natalie Martinez and Godderz, who returned to compete on "Big Brother 11" after being voted out the fourth week last season.

Godderz anticipated his demise. When he was nominated on the spot, Godderz slipped off his shirt, revealing another shirt underneath with a picture of himself and the words "the man, the myth, the legend." His booting left Tavera in tears and outspoken freelance journalist Chima Simone, who had been gunning for Kairouz all week, conjuring conspiracy theories.

"Looks like me and the producers need to have a little bit of a talk," said Simone.

Rumors began swirling online about possible upheaval in the "Big Brother" house when the distributor for audience tickets informed audience members Wednesday afternoon that Thursday's normally live eviction episode would be pushed ahead four hours and taped. A CBS spokeswoman declined to comment about the reasoning for Thursday's switcheroo.

Godderz becomes the first member of this season's seven-person jury, which will ultimately select the $500,000 grand prize winner. Next week, two contestants will be sent packing in a double eviction episode. "Big Brother" host Julie Chen teased that the special edition will feature "a week's worth of 'Big Brother' in one hour — and it's all happening live."

Brooks & Dunn to 'call it a day' after 20 years

Brooks & Dunn to 'call it a day' after 20 years

In this Sept. 12, 2007 file photo, Kix Brooks, left, and Ronnie Dunn of the country duo Brooks & Dunn pose for a portrait at The Factory in Franklin, Tenn. [Agencies]

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Brooks & Dunn are done.

Best-selling country duo Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn posted a message on their Web site Monday saying they agreed to "call it a day" after 20 years of making music together.

"This ride has been everything and more than we could ever have dreamed ... We owe it all to you, the fans," they said in the message. "If you hear rumors, don't believe them, it's just time."

Brooks & Dunn will release a greatest-hits album on Sept. 8 and tour one last time in 2010.

The duo's many hits include "Boot Scootin' Boogie," "My Maria," "Red Dirt Road" and "Cowgirls Don't Cry" with Reba McEntire.

The men's label, Arista Nashville, said the group has sold more than 30 million albums.

Brooks, 54, and Dunn, 56, were struggling solo artists when Arista's Tim DuBois urged them to join forces in 1990. Together they've scored 23 No. 1 hits.

They've recorded 10 studio albums, the latest 2007's "Cowboy Town."

"They've been to the mountaintop and they've accomplished everything that two human beings joined together musically can do in a career," said Brian Philips, president of Country Music Television. "They've had every kind of hit. Literally, they've explored every musical texture and tempo and style and flavor."

CMT is scheduled to tape Brooks & Dunn performing and discussing their music Wednesday for an episode of the show "Invitation Only" to air in October.

Philips called the announcement of the split a complete surprise. He said he has no idea what they might do in the future, but he's certain it will involve music.

"The guys that I know, I can't imagine either of those two individuals walking away from music. That's unthinkable," Philip said.

The pair steeped itself in the mythical West (the duo's emblem is a sun-bleached steer's skull) and rode the charts with a driving honky-tonk sound. Brooks & Dunn took a turn with 2003's "Red Dirt Road" and often pay homage to their classic rock influences, including playing shows with the Rolling Stones and ZZ Top.

Brooks & Dunn won the Country Music Association's vocal duo of the year award every year between 1992 and 2006, except for 2000.

The CMA named the duo entertainer of the year in 1996.

Other country groups have called it quits only to reunite. The mother-daughter duo The Judds split in 1991 but regrouped to tour and record years later.

Phish to deliver new album "Joy" in September

Phish to deliver new album
Keyboard player and singer Page McConnell of the U.S. rock band Phish performs during the first of two sold-out performances at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas September 29, 2000. [Agencies]
NEW YORK – Reunited jam band Phish will release "Joy," its eleventh studio album and first in five years, on September 8, the band announced on its website Tuesday.

On "Joy," recorded earlier this year at Chung King Studios in New York, the group joins forces with producer Steve Lillywhite for 10 new songs, many of which were debuted live during the band's return to the stage this spring and summer.

Fans who had the opportunity to catch Phish during their first proper comeback tour got a taste of nine new tunes, when they showcased swinging blues riffs on "Kill Devil Hills," interplays between guitarist Trey Anastasio and pianist Page McConnell during "Ocelot" and the long, winding, jam-friendly "Light." Only "I've Been Around" has yet to make its live debut.

In addition to a CD release, Phish is selling a limited-edition "Joy Box," a deluxe package available exclusively on the band's own e-commerce website, Phish Dry Goods. Besides the "Joy" CD, the box will include a CD of a complete second album, "Party Time"; a hardcover book; 10 posters, each representing one of the main album's songs; and a DVD full of live performances from the summer tour, including tracks from the group's appearances at the Bonnaroo Festival in June and Fenway Park in Boston.

The box will not ship to fans until October -- nearly a month after the official CD release date -- but purchasers will get a free MP3 download of the album on September 8. Phish is also pressing vinyl copies of "Joy."

"I think when we were in the studio I had the best time that I could," Anastasio told Billboard.com about "Joy" earlier this year.

"Things have gone beyond my wildest expectations and dreams, and I feel like I've been given so many blessings in my life, between my friendship with the guys in the band, our wonderful audience, being able to play this music, and then my family. I just want to stay in that state of gratitude and try to hope that the music that we play is of value to the audience."

Phish is in the midst of planning Festival 8, a three-day, eight-set concert event that will take place at the Coachella Festival site in Indio, Calif., over Halloween weekend.

Rachel McAdams mocks workout 'wimps'

Rachel McAdams mocks workout 'wimps'

Rachel McAdams thinks toned muscles "are for wimps".

The actress, who appears alongside Eric Bana in new movie 'The Time Traveler's Wife', refuses to spend hours working out as she is happy with her body the way it is.

She said: "In the movie, after Eric comes back from time travelling, he doesn't have a stitch on. I don't think he went to the gym to get ready for those scenes.

Eric comes pre-pumped. "I personally think you can have a really rich and full life with no abs. Abs are for wimps." Eric recently echoed his co-star's sentiments, confessing he doesn't enjoy exercising because he thinks gyms are for lonely people.

He said: "Abs are for people with no friends. I don't do the ab thing. I've even had them once, actually, for a film, and they were always covered up.

That was a waste of time. There's so much more to enjoy in life." Despite Rachel's reluctance to work out, the 30-year-old actress - who plays Clare Abshire in the film, an artist who falls in love with Eric's character, time traveller Henry DeTamble - has no problem stripping off for a role.

She explained to Parade.com: "When you're playing a fictional character, it's as normal and mundane as eating breakfast. What bothers me is our culture's obsession with nudity. It shouldn't be a big deal, but it is. I think this overemphasis with nudity makes actors nervous.

There's the worry about seeing one's body dissected, misrepresented, played and replayed on the internet."

NEW YORK – Actor Liam Neeson has walked the red carpet for the first time since the death of his wife, actress Natasha Richardson.

Publicists at the New York City screening of Neeson's new film, "Five Minutes of Heaven," told members of the press Tuesday all personal questions were strictly off-limits.

The Oscar-nominated actor and father of two children with Richardson was asked what his version of heaven would be. The 57-year-old says it's being with his boys and he's "kind of living it at the moment."

In "Five Minutes of Heaven," Neeson plays a former member of an outlawed Northern Ireland paramilitary group who's haunted by memories of murder. The movie opens in select U.S. theaters Aug. 21.

Richardson died in March after falling during a skiing lesson and suffering a head injury. She was 45.

CoCo Lee confident new album will revive singing career

CoCo Lee confident new album will revive singing career

CoCo Lee's first single "Party Time" off her new album "East to West"

American-born Chinese pop singer CoCo Lee's new album, "East to West", will finally drop on August 14 after two years of preparation.

Though optimistic that her new songs will be as popular as the hits of her career peak in the late 1990s and early 2000s, she is not expecting stellar record sales due to the worsening of the recording industry, Lee told popular journal Life Style in an interview.

CoCo's new album is an attempt to revive her faltering career after a disappointing reception for her last two studio albums under Sony. Her 2005 English album, "Exposed", failed to make a splash in the global market, and her 2006 Chinese album, "Just Want You", was less popular than her previous ones.

The new album, released under a new label, MusicNation, mixes Western and Eastern musical elements and reflects CoCo's own mixed background. Its first single "Party Time" has been aired on major TV music programs in China for more than a week.

She worked with producer Yao Qian, who churned out "Di Da Di", CoCo's most successful album, in 1997.

A sexy diva of mando-pop music in the late 1990s, CoCo Lee is one of Asia's bestselling female recording artists. Her albums and singles sold ten million copies worldwide, and she is the only Chinese singer who can boast performances at major international events like the World Music Awards in 1999 and the 2001 Oscars.

Coroner completes Michael Jackson autopsy

Coroner completes Michael Jackson autopsy

LOS ANGELES - Coroners have completed the autopsy report on the body of pop star Michael Jackson, but details remained under wraps on Monday as police probe the cause of the singer's death and his prescription drug use.

A Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said detectives requested the autopsy, which includes toxicology tests, remain sealed until their investigation was finished. He could not say when it would be completed and declined to offer more details.

Some media outlets reported that the "Thriller" singer's body has now been buried at the Forest Lawn cemetery in Los Angeles, but that could not immediately be confirmed through a family spokesman. A cemetery spokesman declined to comment.

Police are looking into why the 50-year-old singer died suddenly of cardiac arrest on June 25. Numerous media reports have said officials are focused on Jackson's use of a powerful anesthetic called propofol to sleep. Police and federal agents have raided several offices of Jackson's doctors as part of their probe.

Meanwhile, the judge overseeing the singer's will said he had approved several business deals, including a $60 million agreement with Columbia Pictures to make a movie from video of the King of Pop's rehearsals for a series of concerts that had been set to take place in London this past July.

Those shows were dubbed "This Is It" by Jackson, and the movie will be similarly titled. Columbia Pictures, a unit of Sony Corp's Sony Pictures Entertainment, said the film, due to be in theaters on October 30, will have performances and behind-the-scenes video of Jackson preparing for the concerts. Some of it will be shown in movie theaters in 3-D.

The judge also agreed to the re-issuance of the singer's autobiography, "Moonwalk," currently planned for October.

Lawyers spent much of Monday in court wrangling over merchandising deals still being planned and a traveling exhibition of Jackson memorabilia that concert promoter AEG Live, which had backed the London concerts, wants to mount.

RESURGENT POPULARITY

Attorneys for Jackson's mother, Katherine, said they had concerns about the involvement of AEG in deals struck with the executors of the pop star's estate.

Judge Mitchell Beckloff said he could not approve the deals for the traveling exhibition and merchandising rights until he appoints an attorney to represent the interests of Jackson's three minor children, who along with Katherine Jackson are beneficiaries of the estate.

As a result, he put off his decision on whether to approve the two deals until August 17.

An attorney for AEG Live, which spent as much as $30 million preparing for the comeback concerts, had argued that to help recoup its investment it needed to move quickly to take advantage of the resurgence in the singer's popularity.

Several of the "Thriller" singer's albums, for instance, have returned to the top of the music charts in recent weeks, whereas before his death his CD sales had languished.

"The longer we wait, the more time passes, frankly the less interest there will be on the part of the public to come see the exhibit," said Kathy Jorrie, an attorney for AEG Live.

Jackson's "Number Ones" CD, originally released in 1993, is the second-best selling album of 2009 in the United States, with sales this year of 1.4 million copies, according to tracking firm Nielsen SoundScan. Only Taylor Swift's 2008 release "Fearless," with 1.5 million copies sold so far this year, stands in the way.

Jackson was said to be as much as $500 million in debt when he died, but the value of his estate was reported to be as high as $1 billion given his part ownership in a music catalog and his control of his own songs.

Jorrie told the judge that attorneys for his mother have demanded AEG Live give the estate its rehearsal video, something that AEG is not willing to do. AEG is owned by reclusive Denver billionaire Philip Anschutz.
