Jude Law's ex reunion

Jude Law and Sadie Frost have sparked rumours of a reconciliation after going house-hunting together.

The former couple - who divorced in 2003 after six years of marriage - are said to be getting their relationship back on track and have decided to purchase a property to give the four children they raise together a family home in the countryside.

A source said: "Jude and Sadie have been getting on fantastically in the past six months. When her business FrostFrench went bust, Jude offered his support in any way.

"He decided to help her buy some where in Hampshire, in the countryside, a real family place. They plan to invest together and give their children a truly loving home."

Jude, 35, and Sadie, 43, have also booked a vacation to South America with their kids so they can all spend Christmas together.

The source added to Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "They have always tried to stay on good terms for the sake of their kids and Christmas is important to both of them.

So this year they're splashing out on a luxury break to Brazil to spend the festive break as a family.

"Pals are desperately hoping a romantic reunion is on the cards." The pair were photographed laughing and looking cosy at an event in London's Royal Opera House earlier this week, leading to suggestions they have already rekindled their romance.

Angelina Jolie’s mother 'mess'

Angelina Jolie is "still a mess" over the death of her mother.

The 33-year-old beauty - whose French-Canadian mom passed away in January 2007 – is still struggling to come to terms with life without Marcheline Bertrand, and is worried she will never be as close to anyone else again.

A source said: "She has to keep it together for the sake of her kids, but she is only human and falls apart from time to time. She is still a mess over Marcheline's departure, believing no one understands her the way her mother did. They had a very strong bond that she feels she will never have with another person."

Angelina depends on partner Brad Pitt for support during her darkest times, and also relies on her children – adopted Maddox, seven, Pax, four, and Zahara, three, biological daughter Shiloh, two, and four-month-old twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline – to raise her spirits.

The source added: "Brad has been her rock, and he will always be there for her. Without his love, she would never have been able to cope.

"Maddox tries to cheer her up and makes her laugh and smile. She feels like she is the most privileged woman to have such an incredible family and has said her mother is a guardian angel over her household."

Earlier this month, Angelina broke down in tears while talking about her mom while promoting new film 'Changeling'.

She said: "She was really sweet and was never angry - she couldn't swear to save her life. But when it came to her kids, she was really fierce and so this is very much her, her story.

"She was the woman I related to, who had that elegance and strength through just knowing what was right."

Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson's family holiday

Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson are planning a family holiday together.

The couple are set to join the DJ's family on vacation and have invited Lindsay's mother and siblings along too, despite not yet choosing a destination.

A source revealed: "Lindsay and Samantha want their families to get to know each other. As long as everyone is together, it doesn't matter where they go. Lindsay has invited her mom Dina, brother Michael and sister Ali. She is really excited about the trip."

Also going on the holiday will be Samantha's brother, producer Mark Ronson, her fashion designer twin sister Charlotte and mother Ann Dexter-Jones.

News of the holiday comes days after the couple denied reports they were having counselling to repair their relationship following a series of rows.
A source said: "They are fighting like cat and dog. Drama just seems to follow Lindsay, and Sam hates it. She deals with Lindsay every day. And every day for Sam means questioning, 'Is this worth it?' "

The pair reportedly had a physical fight in London recently after Samantha became jealous of Lindsay flirting with her ex-boyfriend, model Calum Best.

A source said: "Calum went up to Lindsay on the dancefloor. Lindsay was lapping up the attention, having a laugh - and a flirt. But Sam saw them and went ballistic.

"She marched over and started pushing the pair, demanding to know what they were doing. Then it erupted into a catfight, with Sam and Lindsay swearing and screaming like banshees."

The 'Mean Girls' star was later seen sobbing outside their hotel in the early hours of the morning.

Madonna's public 'A-Rod' date

Madonna unofficially confirmed her relationship with Alex 'A-Rod' Rodriguez at her show last night.

The 50-year-old singer – who was first romantically linked to the New York Yankees baseball star in July – smiled at Alex as he passed her a bottle of water from his seat in the front row of Miami's Dolphin Stadium.

A source said: "It was easy for him to hand it to her because he was sitting in the front row. He was all excited watching her perform."

The first photograph of Madonna – whose divorce from Guy Ritchie legally was granted last week – and Alex was revealed yesterday.

Madonna was spotted leaving a private plane in Miami, Florida, on Tuesday morning seconds after baseball player Alex.
Earlier this week, it was claimed Alex is planning to spend US public holiday Thanksgiving with Madonna and her three children, Lourdes, Rocco and David today.

Alex's former wife Cynthia – who has two children with the baseball star - reportedly wrote in an email: “My 6ft, 3in, 220lbs soulless, soon-to-be ex-husband is abandoning his kids on Thanksgiving to be with Madonna. She called and he ran on her command back to New York City - gross!"

However, Alex's representative has denied the claims, insisting he will be spending the festive holiday with his family.

Zac Efron reveals his 'Footloose' plans after 'High School Musical 3'

Zac Efron is said to be looking for a mid-seven-figure salary and script approval before signing a contract with the filmmakers.

"There's a lot of wrong ways to do this movie," the Daily Telegraph quoted Efron as telling Variety magazine.

"It's a matter of finding the right balance. Until we find it, I can't fully ..." he paused trying to find a word.

"... I can't finish that sentence," he said abruptly.

As the conversation moved on to the next topic, he finally finds the word.

"Commit. Until I fully commit," he stated.

Even though Efron at times may say what he wants, he somehow seems to catch himself and revert back to his script. But Ortega is confident that the actor will do very well with the new role.

"Its like life imitating the movies - suddenly (the cast) has come of age as young people. The light of the future is shining brightly into their eyes, begging them to make decisions that will impact on the rest of their lives," Ortega said.

"I see the characters and the actors as having arrived in the same place at the same time.

"But I have great confidence in them, their families and the teams they have around them, that they're going to make good choices. They are all wise beyond their years. They have a sense of humour. They're sensible, humbled by the attention. They're going to do good," he added.

Kate Winslet "loves" her wrinkles

Kate Winslet says she “loves” her wrinkles.

The 33-year-old actress insists she would never have Botox, which smoothes out facial lines, injected into her forehead because she enjoys seeing her face change as she gets older.

She said: “I just love seeing those things. I am enjoying my face changing, as well as realising that at the same time, as you get older, the machine isn’t as well-oiled as it was.”

Kate – who reunites with ‘Titanic’ co-star Leonardo DiCaprio in new movie ‘Revolutionary Road’ – also revealed she was excited to see how much she and Leonardo have aged since appearing in the 1997 disaster movie.
She added to Parade magazine: “I’m like, ‘Yes, damn it! Look at those foreheads move!’ I mean, he has this amazing furrow between his eyebrows, which wasn’t as prominent then and this one on my forehead is much more prominent in me now.”

Kate says her husband Sam Mendes, who directs ‘Revolutionary Road’, has helped put her life in perspective.

She said: “I was very, very thrown by the fact that I had to make some big changes in my life in order to be myself, but under this kind of movie-star banner. It was a difficult balance to find. Now I feel I’ve got that. I’ve actually had it for a while, I think. That’s mainly to do with my incredible husband.

“We were having lunch, and I was having a glass of wine and eating bread and putting butter on the bread, and I turned to Sam and said, ‘I am just so happy!’ ”

Gay Lothario Hugh Jackman

Hugh Jackman used to go to gay clubs - to hit on drunk women.

The 'X-Men' actor says he and his best friend used to frequent the nightspots as teenagers so they could prey on unsuspecting girls.

He said: "I probably shouldn't be saying this, but I remember when I was about 19, me and my friend used to go to these dance parties which were 80 per cent gay guys, 18 per cent girls who were sick of heterosexual guys hitting on them, and then vultures like me and my mate.

"We would go there until two in the morning, when the girls were really drunk and wishing they weren't with 80 percent gay guys. "I'm the worst kind of straight guy. The leech! The vulture!"

The actor was recently crowned People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive and already has his eye on next year's crown. He added to MTV: "I'm not resting, mate. I'm not a one-term winner here.

I want two terms, three, four, something like that. Brad Pitt's had two but never back-to-back. That's my goal."

Christina Aguilera's Richie tips

Singer Christina Aguilera arrives at the 'Africa Rising' Festival at the Royal Albert Hall, in London October 14, 2008. [Agencies]

Christina Aguilera asks Nicole Richie for parenting advice.

The 'Candyman' singer - who gave birth to Max, her first child with husband Jordan Bratman, in January - has been meeting up with Nicole, who is mother to 10-month-old daughter Harlow, and admits she has picked up numerous motherhood tips from 'The Simple Life' star.

Christina said: "I didn't know much about Nicole, but because our little ones are born one day apart and through mutual friends I've had the opportunity of getting to know her and I was blown away with how great of a mom she is.
"I actually ask her for advice because she has a lot of great things that she does for her little one. She's a little stricter with toys than I am. She's a great woman."

Christina also defended Nicole - who was famous for her partying lifestyle before she began dating Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden and falling pregnant - insisting the 27-year-old star has changed dramatically since having a baby.

The pop superstar added: "She doesn't go out so much, maybe she goes to dinners.

It just is inevitable that you're going to grow when you have a little one, so anyone who's giving anybody grief for going out and partying, they're just trying to be negative and stir up drama and I have nothing but good things to say about Nicole. I have to say that."

Minnelli brings nostalgic mood to new Broadway show

(China Daily) As she prepares for the launch of her new Broadway show, Liza Minnelli can envision an extended run and possible tour. But she isn't making any plans.

"Y'know, I really go one step at a time here," Minnelli told Billboard.com. "I just want to get to the opening night, and then we'll see what happens after that."

"Liza's at the Palace ..." starts a three-and-a-half-week run December 3 at New York's Palace Theater. The production, which brings Minnelli to the venue where her mother, Judy Garland, staged a Tony Award-winning 19-week run in 1951, is filled with personal touchstones.

The second act features a tribute to Minnelli's godmother, Kay Thompson, which the entertainer has been performing in her shows for the past year and a half. A new first act combines her greatest hits with other favorites, including a re-creation of Garland's "Palace Medley" that Minnelli says will be particularly nostalgic.

"It's memories -- I went to every matinee," recalled Minnelli.

Working with producer Phil Ramone, Minnelli recently recorded a studio version of the show, which will be available at the Palace during the run and then will be released February 3 on Hybrid Recordings. There are no plans to film the production, but Minnelli noted, "You never know, that could change in 12 minutes."

Minnelli said that she's looking forward to getting the long-gestating show on the boards and seeing how it plays in front of a paying crowd.

Bruce Willis resolves dispute over "green rubber"

US actor Bruce Willis, seen here in August 2008, is suing a Malaysian company and its royal chairman over an investment in an eco-friendly rubber venture which went sour, the firm said Friday.[Agencies]

(China Daily) "Live Free or Die Hard" movie star Bruce Willis has resolved his dispute with a Malaysian prince and his company over a $2 million investment in "green rubber," the actor's attorney said on Wednesday.

Willis' attorney, Martin Singer, said in a statement on Wednesday that the lawsuit was amicably resolved and that it resulted from a series of miscommunications.

On November 20, Willis sued Prince Imran Ibni Tuanku Ja'afar and Datuk Vinod B. Sekhar, principals of environmental technology company The Petra Group, in which he had invested.

The lawsuit said that Willis had been told by Sekhar that the actor stood to profit from an initial public offering of Petra subsidiary Elastomer Technologies, which had been set for the third quarter of 2008. The IPO did not happen and Willis tried to take his money out of the company.

Ja'afar, Sekhar and The Petra Group repaid Willis $1.1 million of his original investment, but Willis said when he filed his lawsuit that the remaining $900,000 was not returned, despite false assurances to the contrary given to him.

"Having resolved the matter, I will continue to maintain a shareholding position in the company and I wish the company, the directors and my fellow shareholders the very best for the future," Willis said in a statement on Wednesday.

"I continue to believe in the green rubber technology and the vast potential it holds for the environment," Willis said.

Gay icon's life yields lessons after 30 years

In this file photo from April 1977, San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk(L) and Mayor George Moscone are shown in the mayor's office during the signing of the city's gay rights bill. Milk, the late San Franciso supervisor and subject of 'Milk,' the biographical film that opened this week with Sean Penn as the pioneering gay politician who was assassinated along with Moscone 30 years ago Thursday.[Agencies]

(China Daily) Early this month, when it looked like same-sex marriage was on the rocks in California, gay rights activists summed up their angst about the upcoming Proposition 8 vote with four wistful words: What would Harvey do?

Harvey was Harvey Milk, the late San Francisco supervisor and subject of "Milk," the film that opened this week about the pioneering gay politician assassinated along with Mayor George Moscone 30 years ago Thursday.

There are parallels between the gay rights battle of Milk's time and today. Defeating a ballot measure — a ban on openly gay teachers in public schools — was the apex of Milk's short career. And now, with passage of California's ban on gay marriage, activists re-examining Milk's legacy are questioning whether an outsized political leader could have made the difference this time.

"Harvey Milk came from a politics of real discomfort. There was a righteous rage that was motivating him and the people he was working with," said Rafael Mandelman, president of a local gay Democratic club renamed for Milk. "Maybe the community got too comfortable."

Even in Milk's day, California was the center of a national fight pitting gays seeking expanded rights against conservatives espousing traditional values. In both cases, proponents of the ballot measures warned that schoolchildren would be taught a gay "agenda" if the initiatives failed.

The gay community corralled support from high-profile Democrats — President Jimmy Carter three decades ago and presidential candidate Barack Obama this year — and Republicans alike. In persuading Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to come out against Proposition 8, gay leaders reminded him that another actor-turned-politician, Ronald Reagan, opposed the gay teacher ban in 1978.

Milk's contemporaries say the campaign against the marriage ban lacked a fiery figurehead to challenge gays to demand equality. When he was not debating state Sen. John Briggs, the Orange County lawmaker who sponsored the gay teacher ban, Milk rallied potential volunteers with a cry: "Come out, come out wherever you are!"

The Election Night triumph Milk celebrated 20 days before his death "shows you that an ideal — well-organized and well-articulated — can go a long, long way," said Tory Hartmann, a Democratic activist in the 1970s. "It just takes one person."

In contrast, some activists have criticized the No on 8 campaign for being too reactive, failing to mobilize ethnic and churchgoing Democratic voters, and keeping gay couples out of advertisements.

David Mixner, who co-managed the campaign against the teachers ban, said same-sex couples might still have the right to wed in California if today's leaders had been less polite.

A new generation of activists is using the film's release as a rallying point. The organizers of the nationwide protests against Proposition 8's passage held this month are calling on same-sex marriage supporters to fill movie theaters on Dec. 5 to show their financial clout.

Along with "Milk," the story of the boyish gay martyr who is regarded as the Martin Luther King Jr. of the gay civil rights struggle has inspired documentaries, a Broadway play and namesakes as varied as a New York City high school for gay teenagers and a grove of trees in Israel.

Days before the Nov. 27, 1978, assassinations, county Supervisor Dan White had resigned from the board. He blamed Milk and Moscone when the mayor refused to reappoint him. White, a former police officer, sneaked through a window at City Hall to avoid a metal detector and shot both men.

After a jury convicted White of manslaughter instead of murder, thousands rioted in protest. White served about three years in prison, was released, then committed suicide.

To this day, it remains a matter of dispute whether White targeted Milk because he was gay.

The 'Womanizer' singer, who recently unveiled a newly toned figure which she claims is down to a healthy eating and fitness regime, is battling an eating disorder, one of her bodyguards has allegedly revealed.

A source close to one of Britney's bodyguards told America's Star magazine: "Britney's diet consists mostly of Taco Bell and turkey jerky washed down with Red Bull.

"She throws up after meals, both at home and at restaurants and she isn't very discreet about it. People around her think she's bulimic."

It has also been claimed the 26-year-old star is taking diet pills in order to maintain her new slim shape.

Another insider revealed: "The pills are like diuretics. She has to go to the bathroom constantly. It just runs right through her. And everyone knows she still throws up when she's eaten too much. You can smell it in the bathroom."

The singer - who is said to have lost around 28lbs in the last year - reportedly starting shedding weight when she began training for her upcoming world tour.

A source said: "Britney is thrilled she has finally got her pre-baby body. But we are really worried she might not be going about it in the healthiest way.

"This cycle of consuming fatty foods then starving herself must be playing havoc with her health. Britney looks fantastic in all her promotional pictures, but in reality she is a mess. Her skin is dull and blotchy and her hair is lank."

Natalie Portman's celibacy Doubt

(China Daily) Natalie Portman refused to play an emotionally conflicted nun in new movie 'Doubt' because she didn't "understand celibacy".

Director John Patrick Shanley - who also penned the play on which the film is based - has revealed Natalie was in the running for the part of Sister James, which was eventually taken by Amy Adams.

He said: "We asked Natalie Portman, and Natalie was very interested but kept saying she had a problem. And we finally nailed down as to what the problem was. She basically said she didn't understand celibacy."
'Doubt' - which also stars Meryl Streep as Sister Aloysius Beauvier - tells the story of a nun who confronts a priest after discovering he has been sexually abusing a black student.

Meryl has already been tipped for an Academy Award for her role.

However, Shanley downplayed the Oscar buzz surrounding the film, insisting: "Our job is to do the very best we can and strive for excellence, to do it because it means something to us and that we think its worthy of communicating to other people.

"Awards are a wonderful thing but I think that's why I do it and that's why they do it."

The hip-hop star is said to have grown close to the catwalk beauty after personally selecting her to appear in the music video for his single 'Flashing Lights'.

"Recently, Kanye has invited Sessilee to several parties and the pair have also had a few quiet nights together."

The American beauty - who modelled lingerie at the Victoria's Secret fashion show in Miami earlier this month - is being romantically pursued by a host of handsome stars.

The source added: "Everyone wants a piece of Sessilee, she is one of the hottest models around. But she is very fond of Kanye though."http://www.blogger.com/post-create.g?blogID=36841704#

Kanye has been officially single since splitting from fiancee Alexis Phifer in April.

Alexis said at the time: "It's always sad when things like this end. But we are still friends. I wish him the best in his future and all of his endeavours. He's one of the most talented people I've ever met."

"Four Christmases" gives Reese Witherspoon perspective on divorce

Cast member Reese Witherspoon poses at the premiere of the movie "Four Christmases" at the Grauman's Chinese theatre in Hollywood, California in this November 20, 2008 file photo.Witherspoon, 32, sees her new film comedy "Four Christmases," The film tells of an unmarried couple whose relationship is forever changed after a series of holiday visits to their four divorced parents.[Agencies]

(China Daily)  Marriage, kids and divorce have all had their impact on Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon, so when it comes to planning the holidays and extended family visits, she has this advice: go with the flow.

Witherspoon, 32, sees her new film comedy "Four Christmases," debut in U.S. theaters on Wednesday telling of an unmarried couple whose relationship is forever changed after a series of holiday visits to their four divorced parents.

The actress, who has two young children with her ex-husband Ryan Phillippe, said in recent interviews that she deals with her own family dynamics at the holidays by trying to stay open and communicating with everyone concerned.

"It's all very go with the flow, whatever happens in the moment," she said.

After seven years of marriage, she and Phillippe separated in 2006 and finalized their divorce this past June. She said her feelings about marriage have changed, somewhat.

"I had a certain idea of what I thought marriage gives and the whole life and how things are, and sometimes it doesn't work out that way," she said. "So you have to be open to whatever comes your way in life, and life and love and relationships take all kinds of shapes."

Divorces and extended families are often the norm in today's world, but Witherspoon said the story being told in "Four Christmases" seemed very unique for moviegoers.

"I've never really seen someone have to deal with the idea of blended family and how they have to go to a million different places," Witherspoon said. "But I hear people complain about it constantly."

Witherspoon, who won an Oscar for her portrayal of country singer June Carter in "Walk the Line," produced "Four Christmases" through her company Type A Films.

She and co-star Vince Vaughn play a couple living together in a posh San Francisco apartment, who every Christmas come up with an excuse to avoid their families.

But this year when their flight to Fiji is canceled, they spend Christmas shuttling through visits to all four of their divorced parents and learning more about each other.

The parents are played by Robert Duvall, Sissy Spacek, Mary Steenburgen and Jon Voight.

Steenburgen, who is married to actor Ted Danson, said her Christmas resembles the way one of the households in the movie handles their holiday.

"There's my kids and their friends and my ex-husband and his kids and there's Christians and Jews, and it's pretty crazy," she said. "And everybody has a dog and everybody brings the dog, so it's just kind of riotous and silly and funny, and we're deeply immature and have a great time."

Witherspoon added that when she was growing up each member of her family often got only one gift, but it was extra special, such as a nicely made chocolate.

Things are different for her children, who Witherspoon said expect gifts even on Halloween and will probably ask for a horse for Christmas. Witherspoon owns a farm.

Michael Jackson's gravy ,painkillers and biscuits diet

(China Daily) Michael Jackson is said to be living on a diet of gravy, painkillers and biscuits.

The cash-strapped star – who settled a £4.7 million court case against Sheikh Abdulla Al-Khalifa at the weekend – is apparently surviving on the bizarre diet after his spending habits spiralled out of control.

Jackson’s financial woes are said to be a result of him blowing £1 billion on luxuries such as a Ferrari car and the entire stock from antiques shops and comic book stores he has visited.

Sources close to the ‘Thriller’ singer say he is a “millionaire who lives like a billionaire”.

However, the 50-year-old’s family lawyer Brian Oxman insists the star is in excellent health and is not struggling financially.

He said: “Michael is in excellent financial shape. We should all be so fortunate to have his problems.

“He lives a pretty simple lifestyle these days. The extravagances are in the past. He is very low-key, but he is happy and doing well.”

Jackson was being sued last week for borrowing the huge sum from the sheikh and failing to repay him by recording two new albums, writing an autobiography and penning a stage show.

The £4.7 million included £23,500 in utility bills for his Neverland estate, a 10-day Paris hotel bill of £105,000, bank funds of £655,000, court costs during his child abuse case in 2005 totalling £1.5 million, £335,000 living expenses during six months in the Middle East as well as Italian and UK holidays coming to £234,000.

The star was recently forced to sell his ranch, which initially cost £17 million and ran up running costs of £2 million.

Staff bills came to £2.5 million a year while Debbie Rowe – the mother of two of his children, Prince, 11, and Paris, 10 – demands £750,000 a year in maintenance.

But Javier couldn't resist the chance to star in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's new film.

"Penelope is really angry because she turned down a few really good roles because she was so committed to their sabbatical."

Jennifer Aniston on Mayer's proposal: No!

In this image released by Harpo Productions, inc., actress Jennifer Aniston, left, poses with Oprah Winfrey during taping of 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, in Chicago. The show will air Thursday, Nov. 13.[Agencies]

(China Daily) Jennifer Aniston has reportedly turned down John Mayer's marriage proposal.

The former 'Friends' star - who recently rekindled her relationship with 'Gravity' singer John after a brief split earlier this year - is said to have declined John's offer because she doesn't want to damage their relationship.

A source said: "Jennifer said no when John asked her. She told John that everything is so perfect between them right now, they shouldn't ruin the focus of their relationship.

"A wedding would be so stressful and Jennifer just wants to enjoy this phase, falling madly in love and getting a thrill if the other one texts when they are apart."
However, despite being taken aback by Jennifer's refusal, John is determined not to let her decision affect their romance, and still thinks they have what it takes to go the distance.

The source added to Look magazine: "John told Jennifer she is the girl for him and he is sure of it. He is willing to do anything she wants as long as they are together. He is like a different guy.

"John was over the moon when Jennifer took him back last month and he never wants them to be apart again. He really wants to settle down with her. He wants children, marriage - the whole thing at some point."

The 'Beautiful' singer hopes to be able to make meals like her mother in order to impress 10-month-old Max, her first child with husband Jordan Bratman.

Christina said: "My mom loves to cook really southern, good, buttery, salty, delicious, bad-for-your-arteries kind of food, but it is amazing, and I hope to be a cook like that someday because one thing that I look forward to whenever I do go home is tasting my mom's home cooking.

"I want to do the same for Max. Cooking is my next goal in life to achieve."
The 27-year-old star also revealed that Max is just like her because he never stops moving.

She added to Usmagazine.com: "He is so close to walking now, it's crazy. He is a mover and shaker.

Hollywood studios turn hopeful eye toward holiday

By Carl DiOrio

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - One or more of Wednesday's three wide-release movies might turn out to be a box-office turkey, but film distributors see the long Thanksgiving session as a lucrative opportunity for new films and holdovers alike.

The main debutantes during the holiday frame:

* Warner Bros.' seasonal comedy "Four Christmases" features Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon. The stars' established audience appeal offers a sturdy base of support, and prerelease tracking surveys show sufficiently broad interest to make "Christmases" a frontrunner among the new releases.

* Lionsgate's Jason Statham-starring "Transporter 3" has Frenchman Olivier Megaton directing for producers Luc Besson and Steven Chasman. Young males appear a dependable fan base for the action franchise, so the sequel should start particularly well and hunker down in second place among the new releases during the five-day span.

* Fox's Baz Luhrmann-helmed "Australia" stars Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman in an action adventure of epic sweep and 165-minute running time. The film -- whose $130 million in production costs were cut to $78 million through Aussie tax rebates -- has drawn encouraging early reviews, and tracking indicates good interest among older moviegoers.

All wide openers carry PG-13 ratings.

'MILK' ON TAP

On Wednesday Focus Features will open Gus Van Sant's R-rated Harvey Milk biopic, "Milk," in 35 theaters in 21 markets.

A period political drama depicting events leading up to the assassination of San Francisco supervisor Milk and Mayor George Moscone, "Milk" has generated early awards-consideration buzz for Sean Penn's amiable performance in the title role. A notable ensemble cast also features James Franco, Josh Brolin, Emile Hirsch and Diego Luna.

Meanwhile, Summit Entertainment's youth phenomenon "Twilight" and Disney's animated family comedy "Bolt" enter their sophomore sessions in wide release. James Bond film "Quantum of Solace," from Sony and MGM, should also play well during its third domestic frame.

"Twilight" will be scrutinized as to whether its big opening is followed by an equally sizable drop in interest, while "Bolt" will bear watching for signs of a leggy run to compensate for its wobbly opening.

Summit's vampire pic is likely to outgross "Christmases" over five days, but the Warners comedy could get the last laugh with a bigger Friday-through-Sunday tally. Nielsen EDI will rank pics according to their three-day performances.

It's a bit unclear how heavily "Twilight" will drop from its opening grosses. But if repeat business proves as robust as expected, its tumble could prove relatively modest.

"We're confident," Summit distribution chief Richie Fay said.

However the precise pecking order turns out, distributors know that the day before Thanksgiving and the holiday itself historically tend to register outsize daily grosses that make for an effective five-day frame.

"The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is always a very good day," Warners distribution president Dan Fellman said. "And Thursday is good for family films."

Fox distribution boss Bruce Snyder said that "Australia" doesn't need a huge opening, just a solid one, to establish the film in the lucrative holiday marketplace.

"Pictures that work tend to hold beautifully through this time period," he noted.

In a quirk of the calendar, the weekend will be compared to a non-holiday year-earlier frame in which the industry registered a ho-hum $84 million.

Beatles' iTunes talks "stalled": McCartney

British singer Paul McCartney takes to the stage to collect the Ultimate Legend award during the MTV Europe Music Awards ceremony in Liverpool, northern England, November 6, 2008.
REUTERS/Phil Noble

LONDON (Reuters) - Talks to put The Beatles' catalog on Apple's iTunes online music store have stalled, former Fab Four member Paul McCartney told the BBC.

The Beatles is one of the few big acts left whose music is not available on iTunes, but the settlement of a trademark dispute between Apple and The Beatles' company Apple Corps Ltd last year was seen as finally clearing the way.

"We'd like to do it," McCartney was quoted as telling the BBC on its website on Tuesday. "We are very for it, we've been pushing it. But there are a couple of sticking points, I understand.

"Last word I got back was it's stalled at the moment," McCartney added. "But I really hope it will happen because I think it should."

McCartney said that EMI, which has acted as the distributor for the Beatles since the early 1960s, "want something we're not prepared to give 'em.

"It's between EMI and The Beatles I think -- what else is new?"

The solo catalogues of all four members of The Beatles are available digitally, and fans are keen for the group, the most successful in pop music history, to follow suit.

"We have been working hard to secure agreement with Apple Corps to make the Beatles' legendary recording catalog available to fans in digital form," said a spokeswoman for EMI.

"Unfortunately, the various parties involved have been unable to reach agreement, but we really hope everyone can make progress soon."

Singer Amy Winehouse admitted to hospital

LONDON (Reuters) - Singer Amy Winehouse is in hospital after reacting badly to medication, a spokesman said on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old Grammy winner was admitted to a clinic after falling ill on Sunday and has been kept there for tests. Winehouse was taken to hospital for a similar complaint in July.

The singer is best known for her breakthrough album "Back to Black" and landed five Grammy awards earlier in the year, but her career has been overshadowed by a battle against drug addiction and bouts of illness.

Her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, was released on parole last month after spending around a year in prison, on condition he checked into a drug rehabilitation center. He had been jailed for trying to cover up an attack on a pub landlord.

Michelle Williams' Heath Ledger despair

(China Daily) Michelle Williams says things are "getting worse" following the death of her former fiance Heath Ledger in January.

The 28-year-old star - who has a three-year-old daughter Matilda from her relationship with Heath - is finding it increasingly harder to cope because she misses the actor so much.

She said: "I just wake up each day in a slightly different place - grief is like a moving river, so that's what I mean by 'it's always changing'.

It's a strange thing to say because I'm at heart an optimistic person, but I would say in some ways it just gets worse.

"It's just that the more time that passes, the more you miss someone. In some ways it gets worse. That's what I would say."

The former 'Dawson's Creek' star also blasted paparazzi photographers for infringing on her and Matilda's privacy, adding she is considering giving up acting unless the situation improves.

She added to Newsweek magazine: "It burns a fire inside of me, the s**t that I've seen people do to get at me or my daughter. I won't forget it, and I won't support it.

I don't want my daughter growing up feeling spied on or threatened. "If it gets to the point where I can't situate my life in a way that they stay away more, then I'll drop a match on acting. I'll be sad. I like to act. It's saved my life over and over again. I have this thing that I'm in love with - acting - and now it has this baggage."

Heath died of an accidental drugs overdose in his New York apartment in January. He was 28 years old.

Madonna's Alex Rodriguez rage

Madonna performs during the Los Angeles date of her "Sticky and Sweet" tour at Dodgers stadium in Los Angeles November 6, 2008. [Agencies]

(China Daily) Madonna is reportedly furious Alex Rodriguez dropped out of Kabbalah training because he was "bored".

The 50-year-old singer - whose divorce from Guy Ritchie was granted last week - has so far failed in her attempts to get her rumoured boyfriend Alex to share her interest in Kabbalah, a mystical off-shoot of Judaism.

A source at New York's Kabbalah Centre, where baseball star Alex had been attending private classes with spiritual leader Eitan Yardeni, said: "He hasn't even finished Kabbalah 1 (the introduction to the study of Kabbalah) and the majority of the time he has spent with Yardeni so far was for counselling, not study."
Madonna - whose bid to get Guy interested in the religion failed after he branded it "weird" and "hokum" - is now said to be considering whether to proceed in her relationship with Alex.

The source added to MSNBC.com: "This is certainly off-putting to Madonna. She did drag Guy into Kabbalah, she's doing the same now with Alex. But he's bored. He's basically a Kabbalah school dropout."

Britney Spears' "Circus" act caught on Web

Singer Britney Spears walks on stage to perform with Madonna (not pictured) during the Los Angeles date of her "Sticky and Sweet" tour at Dodgers stadium in Los Angeles November 6, 2008.[Agencies]

(China Daily) One week ahead of its release in stores, "Circus," the new album from Britney Spears has been posted on the Web at imeem.com where fans can listen to it for free.

The album features 13 tracks by the pop star, including the now familiar "Womanizer," which was previously released, as well as other songs such as "My Baby," "Unusual You" and "Kill the Lights."

Releasing songs on the Web increasingly is being used to promote musicians and their work ahead of an album release, and Spears' "Circus" is among the most anticipated CDs of this year as she rebounds from a tumultuous 2007 and early 2008.
Spears, 26, went through a bitter custody battle over her two sons last year, exhibited strange behavior in public and by early 2008 was hospitalized twice for psychiatric evaluation.

But in recent months her father, Jamie Spears, has assumed control of her business and personal affairs, and Spears seems to have turned her life around. The ability to complete and promote "Circus" is an indicator of her apparent health.

The full album will be released in stores on December 2, Spears' 27th Birthday.

Imeem (http://www.imeem.com) has previously released music from recording artists including Fall Out Boy, U2, Lil Wayne and The Rolling Stones.

Angelina Jolie's 'Changeling' fears

Cast member Angelina Jolie poses during the DVD release of "Kung Fu Panda" at the Grauman's Chinese theatre in Hollywood, California November 9, 2008.[Agencies]

(China Daily) Angelina Jolie says her film 'Changeling' had so much impact on her, it nearly prevented her trying for another baby.

The actress says playing the part of Christine Collins in the film - which tells the true story of a woman's son going missing, only to be replaced with an impostor - stuck in her mind so much it gave her nightmares and panic attacks.

Angelina, who made the film in August and September last year said: "I was wacko, emotionally, during this one. I just couldn't get the story out of my head. It was like, do you want to start a pregnancy in this high emotional state? I felt so raw."
Angelina, 33, did however become pregnant and gave birth to twins - Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline - with partner Brad Pitt four months ago.

She is also mother to four other children: adoptees Maddox, seven; Pax, four and Zahara, three and her biological daughter with Brad Pitt, Shiloh, two.

She says that during filming she would become intensely paranoid for her children.

She added: "It's harrowing to watch and, yes, it was harrowing to make. During this film I was much more paranoid about my own children - where they were, what they were doing.

"I remember one weekend I'd taken a nap and Shiloh was asleep in her cradle, and when I woke up she was gone. I was freaking out. And nothing had happened - Brad had taken her and the rest of the kids to the park.

But [the] story haunted me. Throughout filming I was hugging the kids and keeping them close to me."

'Changeling' starring Angelina alongside John Malkovich and Michael Kelly is released on November 26.

Love in live

By Liu Wei

(China Daily) Without men, women's lives would be a total mess. That, anyway, seems to be what female director Ma Liwen is saying in her new film Desires of the Heart (Tao Hua Yun).

The film, which premiered on Nov 20, charts five love affairs in 100 minutes in Chinese with English subtitles.

A divorced woman falls into the clutches of a womanizer; a girl devotes herself to finding a rich husband; a university student breaks up with her loving boyfriend because they had had pre-marital sex; an elderly woman is knowingly cheated by a young man; and a rich girl falls in love with a poor cook.

The film gives an insight into how urban Chinese live and love nowadays, albeit in an exaggerated way. It lives up its billing as a comedy but more through apparent flaws in its plot than witty lines and amusing performances.

All five women seem incapable of living happily before they find Mr Right. Moreover, the scene of a girl dreaming sweetly of being buried by the notes a rich man throws on her is pathetically impressive.

China's top actor, Ge You, plays the hilarious womanizer and shows why he has been the most popular actor on the mainland for many years. The bony man dominates every scene he appears in and his gifted comedic touch even makes up for the ordinary script. If there were just one reason to see this film, it would be Ge's performance.

MTV holds its first African music awards

Kenyan artist Wahu reacts after receiving the best female artist award during the MTV Africa Music Awards in Abuja Nigeria Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008.[Agencies]

(China Daily) Two Nigerian singers won top awards Saturday as MTV held its first-ever music award program for Africa, with acts from across the world's poorest continent being nominated for prizes.

Nigerian singer D'banj won the artist of the year award, while his compatriot, Naeto C, took the laurels for the best new African act, it was announced at the ceremony in Abuja, Nigeria's capital.

Winners were selected by fans sending text messages, said Alison Reid, a spokeswoman for MTV Networks Africa.

Africa has long featured a vibrant music scene, but artists have had difficulties breaking into overseas markets. Famous African artists include Senegal's Youssou N'dour, Nigerian legend Fela Kuti and South African impresario Miriam Makeba, who died this month.

MTV hopes the awards can offer the artists more exposure and celebrate the continent's artistry.

Performers from South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Gabon and others also were nominated. Songs by D'banj and Naeto C, both male, are all but ubiquitous on the radio in Nigeria, Africa's most-populous nation of 140 million people.

African music is highly varied, reflecting myriad tastes in the vast continent. Included across the many genres are call-and-response chanting and heavy drumming, drawing on pre-colonial modes of communication among villages.

Since independence movements swept the continent in the 1960s, African music also has increasingly been open to outside influence, incorporating salsa rhythms, rock beats and, increasingly, hip hop and R&B styles.

Many of the new Nigerian acts nominated Saturday feature heavy beats pioneered by American rappers and hip-hop artists. The lyrics often reflect the desire of many Nigerians to escape poverty and corrupt governance.

MTV's regional music channel MTV Base now reaches almost 50 million African viewers in 48 countries through a network of pay-per-view services and partnerships with domestic channels.

Jennifer Aniston's new 'rules'

(China Daily) With Jennifer Aniston speaking out in recent issue of Vogue on ex Brad Pitt and his “uncool” partner, Angelina Jolie, the dating gurus behind bestselling book “The Rules,” have come up with a few guidelines for the former “Friends” star.

“Breaking up is never easy, but it doesn’t have to be humiliating,” Ellen Fein, who co-wrote “The Rules” with Sherrie Schneider, told the New York Post before offering her advice.

“Never mention Brad’s or John Mayer’s name in public. Also, don’t say any thing bad about him (‘he’s missing a sensitivity chip’),” she said, referencing a comment Jennifer made shortly after their break-up. “Never talk about Angelina or call her ‘uncool,’ even if she was uncool. She does not exist in your world.”

Ellen continued on, telling the 39-year-old star to get back out there on the hunt.

“Go to parties where there are lots of single men and ask everyone you know to set you up,” she said. “You’re going to be 40 soon. You have no time to waste if you want kids.”

In an interview with the New York Times Magazine on Sunday, Jennifer had some advice of her own – for the makers of one of her latest movies, “He’s Just Not That Into You.”
“I wish it was ‘She’s Just Not That Into You!’” she said. “[That] would be more empowering.”

Remembering some of her pre-“Friends” sitcom failures, she told the mag that being on the long-running show was “the first time I felt like part of the cool kids.”

“During the first week of shooting, I thought, I’ll be heartbroken if this doesn’t continue,” she said, adding that she’s still watching the show if a rerun comes on.

“There are times when I laugh my rear end off,” she said. “And I get in debates with people who are over and say, ‘Friends’ is not my thing.’ Excuse you!”

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Steven Seagal is heading to the small screen, signing to star in a reality series for A&E that will chronicle his little-known life in law enforcement.

Segal, an actor and martial arts expert with a seventh-degree black belt in aikido, has been working as a fully commissioned deputy with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office in Louisiana for the past 20 years. In addition to going out on patrol, Seagal is said to be an expert marksman who has worked with the Jefferson Parish SWAT team and has instructed officers in firearms and hand-to-hand combat.

"Steven Seagal: Lawman" will follow Seagal and a team of deputies as they respond to crimes in progress and also focus on Seagal's off-duty ventures, including musical performances and philanthropic efforts in Jefferson Parish and New Orleans.

"I believe it's important to show the nation all the positive work being accomplished here in Louisiana -- to see the passion and commitment that comes from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office in this post-Katrina environment," Seagal said of his decision to do the series.
