Single reviews :

BACK in October last year, CityLife was the delighted recipient of this single on its first release on Jamie T's Pacemaker label.

We loved it then, and we love it now. Why? Well, while the world has had time to grow cynical about this young starlet and her speedy processing through the corporate machine, Hometown Glory still stands as a testament to what she does best - flexing those phenomenal vocal chords.

Compared to her other string-drenched singles it's as naked as a new born baby, relying on a looped piano for its stark, emotional melody.

The most important element, though, is that Hometown Glory gives Adele's timbre room to breathe - and shine. She's as soulful as Lauryn Hill, as husky as Amy Winehouse and rambles through the octaves with the same merry poise as Regina Spektor. And that's some combination.

Adele - Hometown Glory Video

Adele - Hometown Glory Lyrics

I’ve been walking in the same way as I did
Missing out the cracks in the pavement
And tutting my heel and strutting my feet
Is there anything I can do for you dear? Is there anyone I can call?
No and thank you, please Madam. I ain’t lost, just wandering

Round my hometown
Memories are fresh
Round my hometown
Ooh the people I’ve met
Are the wonders of my world
Are the wonders of my world
Are the wonders of this world
Are the wonders of my world

I like it in the city when the air is so thick and opaque
I love to see everybody in short skirts, shorts and shades
I like it in the city when two worlds collide
You get the people and the government
Everybody taking different sides

Shows that we ain’t gonna stand shit
Shows that we are united
Shows that we ain’t gonna take it
Shows that we ain’t gonna stand shit
Shows that we are united

Round my hometown
Memories are fresh
Round my hometown
Ooh the people I’ve met

Are the wonders of my world (4x )
