LONDON – Kristin Scott Thomas will play John Lennon's authoritarian Aunt Mimi in "Nowhere Boy," a movie about the late Beatle's early life.

Anne-Marie Duff will play his mother, Julia, while newcomer Aaron Johnson will play Lennon. The project marks the directorial debut of artist Sam Taylor-Wood. Shooting will start in March on location in Liverpool and at Ealing Studios.

Mary "Mimi" Smith raised Lennon after she despaired of her sister's lackluster maternal efforts. Julia was fatally run over by an off-duty policeman when Lennon was 17, and Mimi died in 1991, 11 years after her nephew was murdered.

Scott Thomas, an Oscar winner for "The English Patient," was recently in theaters with "The Other Boleyn Girl."
